Graphic designer and furniture maker/woodworker, Nancy Bratton, created fashion "Flights of Fancy" with Neenah Paper's Design Collection for the 2019 show.
Nancy’s style derives from her love of architecture, Nordic design, the free spirited feeling of solo traveling, and the patterns of topographic maps. While her “Flights of Fancy” fashion evokes daydreams of being whisked away and flying over Iceland, it also has very practical details such as a pocket in the dress, because women have tools too!
We asked Nancy to share more about herself and her experience with designing for the show.
How many hours do you estimate that you spent creating "Flights of Fancy"?
"60".
What was the most challenging part of creating your fashion?
"Making it fit around the torso."
Did you have any major meltdowns or snafus with your fashion?
"No. I enjoyed winging it. My idea shifted in progress as I learned more about the limitations and benefits of working with paper."

Why did you sign up to design a fashion for the 2019 show?
"I signed up for the show right before I moved to Denver as a way to keep me creatively occupied while building a new community of friends."
What would you say to a designer that is on the fence about entering a fashion?
"It's a very unique experience and you can make it as simple or complex as you'd like."
What is one thing you learned during the show?
"A big part of design and this competition is problem solving. Which is a fun challenge!"
