The Paper Committee 2025

Page 1

Amanda Witucki, working under the moniker The Paper Committee, is a self-taught paper sculpture artist who works out of her home studio in Austin, Texas. She creates large and intricate installations that are marked by bright colors and abundant texture. Witucki has been an active, exhibiting artist since 2018 with work featured in exhibitions throughout the country, most notably at the San Diego Museum of Art in 2023 and the Austin-Bergstrom Airport in 2024. Her work has been published in Tribeza Magazine, EASTside Magazine, and Create! Magazine.

Witucki’s works are creations of colorful, sculptural, and experiential pieces through paper folding and pleating. Dubbed as “ new school origami,” she breaks the rules of traditional origami by incorporating adhesives and cut paper to fashion her works. With an attraction to the accessibility of paper, Witucki relishes in the contrast of creating ornate and massive works from a humble material. Repetition, abundance, and a touch of whimsy are all present in her creations.

SELECTED WORKS

I get inspiration for color palettes from many sources: the internet; my dreams; other artists My favorite inspiration comes from graphic design and advertisements They often have bold, punchy colors, and I like expanding these into complex palettes.

SUSTAINABILITY

Early Flight, 2024 Paper, Maps, Plastic Net

In 2024, I exhibited my work in the Austin-Bergstrom Airport Wanting to expand my skill set, I stepped away from origami and created a ‘ paper textile’ using only paper scraps from previous projects. This installation inspired me to utilize sustainability in my art moving forward. Coming Fall of 2025, I’m excited to create a new body of completely sustainable work for a solo exhibition using single-use plastics and upcycled cardboard packaging.

Full Happy Belly, Early Flight Reimagined, 2025

Soft Morning Sun, Early Flight Reimagined, 2024

Once the aiport exhibit concluded, I upcyled the installation into several pieces on canvas. See above.

COMMISSIONS

Commissions are a big part of my art practice, and they are such a rewarding step out of my comfort zone. I can explore new concepts and techniques that I don’t normally work with, creating new palettes and inspiring new ideas.

Better Days Ahead, 2025 Paper & Paint on Canvas

Sunny Side Up, 2022 Paper
Fern Forest, detail, 2022 Paper

I began dabbling in representational creations after a large commission to create a fern forest complete with mushrooms and insects. I enjoyed it so much, it inspired a whole botanical detour for a few years.

This was my very first home commission! The encouragement of this client had a big hand in me pursuing fine art.

INSTALLATIONS

Made in 2018, this is the very first installation I created using the origami shape that is prevalent in my work. At the time I still considered myself an event designer, so I didn’t name this piece It’s now the first and only “Untitled” piece I’ve ever made.

C'est Une Méduse, 2021 Paper

SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF ART |

I was honored to be chosen as a featured artist for the annual fundraiser at the San Diego Museum of Art’s “Art Alive.” The massive room transformation was diffficut to capture in photos, but each of the four walls had 10-30 feet long installations covering them. It was by far my largest project to date. My team and I folded over 5,000 shapes and it took a full 40-hour week to install the project

ART ALIVE 2023 | INSTALLATION PROCESS

I have a visceral reaction to color, and my job is to convey these unexpected relationships to the viewer. I play with nontraditional palettes, often showcasing pastels with earth tones, or including pops of tasteful neon to add tension and moments of pause.
