Throughout the play, "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet", many different types of love are shown, however, I believe loyal, parental love, and romantic love are the most popular and influential types of love throughout the story. The Capulets and Montagues show loyalty for their house, the friar shows parental love for Romeo as the nurse shows parental love for Juliet, and Romeo and Juliet show romantic love for each other. These three types of love, loyal love, parental love, and romantic love, show many similarities to one another as they do differences. Loyalty is a type of love that has to do with trust for a person or group. Shakespeare shows loyalty for the Capulets when he wrote,"Here comes two/ of the house of Montagues./ My naked weapon is out. Quarrel! I will back thee."(1.1.30–32). This quote shows the loyalty the Capulets have for their household. This scene displays...show more content... Romantic love is shown when Shakespeare wrote,"O, speak again, bright angel, for thou art/ As glorious to this night being o'er my head,"(2.2.26–27). This quote shows Romeo in Capulet's orchard talking with Juliet. This quote shows importance because Romeo is so in love with her that he compares her to an angel. This scene takes place right after they meet for the first time, so it is clear that Romeo and Juliet fell in love at first sight. He shows romantic love of Romeo and Juliet when he wrote, "...you shall not stay alone/ Till holy church incorporate two in one."(2.6.36–37). This quote shows Romeo and Juliet getting married by the friar. This is important because this scene isn't even a full twenty–four hours after they met for the first time. Romeo and Juliet have not had enough time to get to know each other, yet they still get married. This proves that their romantic love has nothing to do with each others personality. Both of these quotes show the romantic love between Romeo and Get more content

Romeo And Juliet Loyalty Quotes

Romeo and Juliet is one of the most tragic and depressing stories ever told. If you take the story from a different perspective and really think through some of the choices that were made leading up to their death you would see that Romeo and Juliet made some foolish decisions that caused their deaths. Foolishness is at fault for the death of Romeo and Juliet because he went to the Capulet party and kissed Juliet, after the party he went to Juliet's balcony and talked to her until the morning, and he also took Juliet's virginity. Kissing Juliet was one of the most foolish decision Romeo had made. "R: Then move not while my prayer's effect I take. Thus from my lips, by thine my sin is purged. J: Then have my lips the sin that they have took. R: Sin from my lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again" (1.5.108–112). In these lines Romeo finds Juliet...show more content...

How camest thou hither, tell me, and wherefore? The orchard walls are high and hard to climb, and the place death, considering who thou art, if any of my kingsmen find thee here" (2.2.58–65). In these lines Juliet finds out Romeo trespassed onto the Capulet land beneath her balcony. This is being foolish because he could have been caught trespassing but he didn't care because he wanted to see Juliet since he was madly in love with her. Taking Juliet's virginity was another foolish decision Romeo made. "Go before, nurse. Commend me to thy lady, and bid her hasten all the house to bed, which heavy sorrow makes them apt unto" (3.3.155–157). In these lines Friar basically tells Romeo to take juliet's virginity to seal the marriage and make the marriage confirmed. Romeo was foolish in this because he agreed to take her virginity instead of saying no and backing

Romeo and Juliet one the most famous stories about love by William Shakespeare. Romeo and juliet were a pair of star crossed lovers who were destined to take their lives, for the sake that it will end a feud between their two families. In the poem, Juliet expresses three main traits: caution, passion, and loyalty. Juliet is extremely cautious when it comes to Romeus as she worries that his intentions are misguided. She demonstrates this when she proclaims, "But if by wanton love and by unlawful suit You think in ripest years to pluck my maidenhood's dainty fruit, You are beguiled." (Lines 86–88). However, once Romeus assures her of his love for her, her loyalty can be clearly seen. Juliet vows that she will remain loyal by stating, "Both me and mine I will all whole to you betake, And following you whereso you go, my father's house forsake." (Lines 84–85). Essentially, she would abandon her family to be with him. Finally, her passion ties in with her desires. The author notes that "of both that she rejoicГ©d more" and she says, "For you, mine own, once dead, what joy should I have here?" Overall, these characters help illustrate the main theme: romantic love. As a result of their actions and dialogue, they depict the passion and yearning that characterizes young love. Additionally, they prove that love is an overpowering force that transcends rational thinking and other emotions or values. Quotes In Romeo And Juliet

Quote 1: " O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! Beauty too rich for use, for earth to dear! So how's a snowy dove trooping with crows"

(Shakespeare 1.5.49–54)

When Romeo first laid his eyes on Juliet, he instantly fell in love and his feelings began to pour out. The description of Juliet by Romeo continues, as he compares her to a beautiful dove and all the other ladies around her to awkward crows. Instantly, every women, including Rosaline, became irrelevant to Romeo. All he desired and all he could focus on at that moment was, Juliet, the woman he knew he was destined to marry. Romeo had been trapped in a deep depression a few hours before he laid his eyes on Juliet, Romeo's feelings drastically change once he sees Juliet which proves to be love at first sight. Romeos early display of affection presents him as a man who is in love with the idea of love, and in turn allows audiences to like for him, just as they imagine he would for them. Although Romeo's character was introduced a few scenes prior, he was depressed and not himself. So, the moment he met Juliet for the first time it was also the moment the audience met the real Romeo for the first time.

Romeo And Juliet Love Quotes

The play written by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, explores the theme of love, which engages the modern audience. Shakespeare uses different language devices and quotes when describing love, from Romeo and Juliet, to family love and forced love. This romantic tragedy is about young star–crossed lovers that are stuck in a long lasting feud between their two families, the Montagues and Capulets, fate ends up causing them to commit suicide in despair of their love. The play empathises the fine line between love and hate but love is the driving theme throughout this romantic tragedy. Romeo and Juliet's love is a mix between passionate, obsessive and romantic love. "But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Romeo's infatuation for Juliet has made him forget about his first love with Rosaline, makes you wonder how easily Romeo falls in and out of love. Shakespeare uses metaphors to explain the love Romeo has for Juliet by addressing her as the 'sun' and the 'stars' and how the goddess of the moon and patron of virgins, is even jealous of Juliet's radiance. The use of metaphors lets the audience, use their imagination to create an image of Juliet's beauty. Juliet is a strong character in this book. She has the aspects of independence, determination, and love. Juliet represents these qualities in everything she does throughout the book. She shows very good character in the words she says. These next four paragraphs will go into more detail of these characteristics. Juliet has many more qualities than what I am mentioning today, but the first one I am going into detail with is her aspect of independence. She has her own set of thoughts and her opinion. She is not afraid to fight for what she believes in. For example, in this quote, "O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love; And I'll no longer be a Capulet." (Act 2 Scene 2 Page 26, Shakespeare) Juliet is clearly stating how she no longer cares what her family thinks. She loves Romeo and is set on her own opinion on him. Another line which shows her independence is, "Whats Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot, nor arm, nor face, nor any other part belonging to a man..." (Act 2 Scene 2 Page 26). This line is stating how she doesn't care about the last name. It doesn't pronounce Romeo as a bad guy....show more content...

The first quote that shows this is, "...My boundary is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep, the moral give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite." (Act 2 Scene 2 Page 28–29). Juliet is so in love with Romeo and her love is so deep for him. The second quote that represents this quality is, "...They are but beggars that can count their worth; But my true love is grown to such excess..." (Act 2 Scene 6 Page 42). Juliet's love for Romeo is growing more and more as the time goes on. She feels as if she cannot live without him. Juliet has such a big and loving heart, not just for Romeo, but for a lot of

Romeo and Juliet Essay

"Holding a grudge doesn't make you strong; it makes you bitter. Forgiving doesn't make you weak; it sets you free." This quote was once stated by Dave Willis, and teaches those that forgiving is something you can do to strengthen your life, not to weaken it. In the novel, Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare in 1594, shows this lesson as well. William Shakespeare uses literary terms and language to portray how rivalries impede life's most desirable events from happening. William Shakespeare uses comparing terms to portray that rivalries impede some of life's most desirable occasions from happening. When comparing, Shakespeare used a series of metaphors. "If ever you disturb our streets again, Your lives...show more content...

All three rhetorical terms are used by Shakespeare throughout the novel, here, he uses pathos. "O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name, Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet" (Rom.II.ii.36–39). Juliet is expressing her great heartache for Romeo through this using pathos. She is very upset that Romeo, an antagonist of her family, happens to be the one that she wants to spend the rest of her life with because she knows that it won't be easily allowed by either of their parents. After using an emotional appeal, William Shakespeare uses ethics to support the reasoning of the opinions shared by each part. "My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself Because it is an enemy to thee" (Rom.II.ii.60–61). Romeo is expressing ethos in this quote because he is saying that he would be willing to throw away all of his family just because they get in the way of him being with Juliet. Romeo has almost thrown away all that his parents and himself have been through, which is destroying their relationship. Lastly, logic is also used by Shakespeare to further the understanding of readers and other characters in the play. "Tybalt is gone and Romeo banished. Romeo that killed him–he is banished" (Rom.III.ii.75–76). Shakespeare uses logos here by having the Nurse explaining the logic and reasoning behind

Juliet

Romeo is a lustful and emotional 16–year–old that acts mainly on impulse and how he feels in the moment rather than what would be more sensible. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Romeo's irresponsible and dramatic identity causes him to act without thought and on impulse.

Romeo is a melodramatic 16–year old that lets his downheartedness over Rosaline take over when he sees Juliet. Romeo is unhappy, as Rosaline decided to stay chaste, and then he meets Juliet and he sees that she is looks attractive and wants to make irresponsible decisions. Romeo gives a perfect example of his irresponsible, lustful identity when he says this, "Did my heart love till now? / Forswear it, sight! Romeo constantly shows his identity in the text because he is always commenting something lustful or dramatic. Again in the text, Romeo is commenting on Juliet's beauty, "She stands out against the darkness like a jeweled earring hanging against the cheek of an African. / Her beauty is too good for this world; she's too beautiful to die and be buried." (Shakespeare I.5 52–54). From this quote, readers can understand that Romeo thinks that Juliet is too good–looking and she plays whatever game he tries to play to make her to love him. This is irresponsible and not to mention lustful of Romeo because he is older and should know what is best for him and as their families are feuding, it should be obvious to him that he should not marry Juliet, but he does, just so he can be with her. The reader can conclude that Romeo is very irresponsible when it comes to love.

The character identity of Romeo is William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet show the reader that when emotion and lust cloud the mind, it is hard to see through it to the other side. Romeo doesn't even try to see through it, he just wants to live in the moment. Romeo could have been more responsible with Juliet and even though he didn't have many trusting people surrounding him, it was still not a grand move on his part and it resulted in his and Juliet's Get more content

I have chosen to write on the character Romeo. Romeo reacts with his heart. He does not stop to think about the ramification will be from his actions. He is a lover and not a fighter. A prime example of this is when Romeo climbs the orchard's wall, so he can see Juliet. "Can I go forward when my heart is here? Turn back, dull earth, and find thy centre out." (II, 1, 2–3) Romeo is asking how can he leave when his heart is there with Juliet. He is in love with her and now has his heart. He goes on to say he will go back and find what makes his heart happy, that being Juliet. Than Romeo climbs over the wall into his family's enemy territory. Romeo has no one with him incase he was to encounter a Capulet. He would be severely outnumbered in a fight. "By a name I know not how to tell thee who I am. My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself, Because it is an enemy to thee; Had I it written, I would tear the word" (II, 2, 57–61) Romeo is speaking to Juliet and she would like to know who he is but he his scared to tell her. Their families are enemies. He loves her greatly, he now hates his own name, since he's name is her hated enemy. He would like to lose his surname. "By love, that first did prompt me to inquire; He lent me counsel and I lent him eyes. I am no pilot; yet wert thou as far as that vast shore wash'd with the farthest sea, I should adventure for such Merchandise." (II, 2, 84–88) Juliet askes Romeo how he came to be in the Orchard. He tells her that love lead him to her. He states he is not experienced captain, but he would travel and risk it all to find her, she is worth the risk that he took to see her again. "Then plainly know my heart's dear love is set on the fair daughter of rich Capulet. As mine on hers, so is her set on mine; And all combin'd, save what thou must combine By holy marriage. When and where and how we met, we woo'd, and made exchange of vow, I'll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray, That thou consent to marry us to–day. "(II, 3, 58–65) Romeo is asking Friar Laurence to marry him and Juliet. They have not known each other for 24 hours yet, and now they are seeking to be married secretly in a whole union. Right after the gathering, Juliet retires to her room and says a soliloquy on her balcony, not knowing that Romeo is hiding in a bush close by and hanging onto her every word. She is talking about how Romeo isn't her enemy, just his name is. Then she says how "Montague" isn't a part of someone, simply a title. Also, she describes what a name really is, using the comparison that if a rose was called something besides a rose it would still smell good and be beautiful. This basically means that a name doesn't define something, but its context does. Then she says that Romeo would be perfect if he wasn't a Montague.
