Editorial Πολυπολιτισμική απειλή ή ευλογία Το ζήτημα της πολυπολιτισμικότητας γίνεται όλο και πιο επίκαιρο λόγω των έντονων μαζικών πληθυσμιακών μετακινήσεων. Η χώρα μας, πέρασμα ανάμεσα σε Ανατολή και Δύση, έχει δεχτεί πολλές εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες μεταναστών ανά τους αιώνες αλλά και έχουν φύγει από την πατρίδα εκατομμύρια Έλληνες που έχουν μεταναστεύσει σε όλα τα μήκη και πλάτη της οικουμένης. Υπολογίζεται ότι υπάρχουν 100.000.000 Έλληνες διασκορπισμένοι ανά τον κόσμο. Σίγουρα όμως και νέα μεγάλα κράτη τα οποία τα παρομοιάζουμε με “melting pot” όπως αυτά των ΗΠΑ, της Αυστραλίας, του Καναδά και της Νότια Αφρικής, για να αναφέρουμε μερικά μόνο, σε πείσμα όλων αυτών που υποστηρίζουν την ομοιογένεια και την εθνική καθαρότητα, κατάφεραν να προοδεύσουν και να αναπτύξουν πρωτοφανή δυναμική, σχηματίζοντας παντοδύναμες κρατικές οντότητες. Τα κράτη αυτά κατάφεραν μέσα από ένα δικό τους ισχυρό αξιακό και νομικό σύστημα να αφομοιώσουν και να ομογενοποιήσουν όλους αυτούς τους ετερόκλητους πληθυσμούς. Το μυστικό λοιπόν της επιτυχίας του πειράματος των ανοικτών κοινωνιών είναι οι ισχυροί θεσμοί και το ξεκάθαρο νομικό πλαίσιο που οδηγεί το άτομο στην αυτοπειθαρχία, τον σεβασμό και την υπακοή σε ξεκάθαρους κανόνες. Είναι τόσο έντονη η επιρροή των κρατικών αυτών δομών πάνω στους μετανάστες που πολύ σύντομα η θρησκευτική και γλωσσική τους ταυτότητα συνθλίβεται κάτω από το βάρος της νέας εθνικής τους ταυτότητας. Στον αντίποδα βρίσκονται μικρά πολυπολιτισμικά κράτη, όπως η Ελβετία, το Βέλγιο, η Μάλτα, η Νέα Ζηλανδία καθώς και άλλα πολλά, όπου οι ετερόκλητοι πληθυσμοί που συνυπάρχουν αρμονικά μέσα στα σύνορά τους, έχουν ταυτόχρονα διαφυλάξει τα δικά τους ήθη και έθιμα καθώς και τις δικές τους γλώσσες και θρησκείες. Από τη μια πλήρης αφομοίωση, από την άλλη διατήρηση των φυλετικών ιδιομορφιών αλλά και αρμονικής συνύπαρξης. Και στις δυο περιπτώσεις, η επιτυχία έγκειται στην επιβολή σταθερών θεσμών και στην στιβαρή κρατική μηχανή που διαθέτουν. Η δική μας χώρα, μικρή, οικονομικά αδύναμη και με χαλαρές και αναποτελεσματικές κρατικές δομές όχι μόνο δεν μπορεί εύκολα να δεχτεί και να αφομοιώσει ξένο ανθρώπινο δυναμικό αλλά συνεχώς χάνει και τους δικούς της νέους ανθρώπους που αδυνατεί να υποστηρίξει. Για να αντιμετωπίσουμε το οξύ πρόβλημα της φυγής των δικών μας νέων, που με τόσες θυσίες επιμορφώνουμε και εκπαιδεύουμε, θα πρέπει να χτίσουμε νέες ισχυρές δομές που θα ισχυροποιήσουν την παιδεία και την οικονομία μας με στόχο να δημιουργηθούν δουλειές για τα δικά μας άξια παιδιά. Ας εξυγιάνουμε και ας ισχυροποιήσουμε το δικό μας κράτος για να σταματήσει η φυγή των νέων μας στο εξωτερικό.

Εμείς σαν φορέας διδασκαλίας ξένων γλωσσών, βλέποντας πόσοι άριστοι μαθητές μας εγκαταλείπουν την χώρα, κάνουμε έκκληση σε όλους να αφήσουν τις τόσο φθαρμένες παλαιές νοοτροπίες και να προχωρήσουν στην επανίδρυση μιας πατρίδας που δεν θα διώχνει τα παιδιά της. Ντιάνα Παπαηλιού Διευθύντρια

Prejuniors Theater Plays Την Τετάρτη στις 27 Μαΐου και την Πέμπτη 28 Μαΐου 2015 οι κυρίες Χρύσα Αρβανίτη και Έλενα Χρηστίδη αντίστοιχα, παρουσίασαν με τους μαθητές των νηπιακών τμημάτων σκετσάκια και τραγούδια που έμαθαν κατά τη διάρκεια της χρονιάς. Όλοι γονείς και καθηγητές ενθουσιάστηκαν με την ωραία γιορτούλα!!!

Venizelou-night out

On Wednesday 3rd of June the Venizelou teachers decided that the time had come for a well-deserved night out. In light of this need, we went to a “mezedopolion” in Keratsini. The food was fantastic as too was the wine. However, Miss Lampara had an extra surprise for us all, as she had bought a cake to mark our school’s 60th anniversary. Miss Diana Papaeliou had graced us with her presence and did the honours of blowing out the candles and making this night even more special.

Coordinators’ meeting Στις 11 Ιουνίου 2015 πραγματοποιήθηκε συγκέντρωση του διοικητικού προσωπικού των σχολείων μας, με τον συντονισμό της κας Ινώς Παναγιώτου και των κυριών Μαριάννας & Ντιάνας Παπαηλιού. Συμμετείχαν οι κυρίες : Μ. Ρηγοπούλου, Α. Κοτοπούλη, Ολ. Σούτη, Μ. Χαρατσή, Στ. Λεμονή & Α. Φριτζελά. Στόχος της συγκέντρωσης ήταν ο προγραμματισμός και συντονισμός της ερχόμενης σχολικής χρονιάς (2015-16) με κύριο γνώμονα την ποιοτική εκπαίδευση , το σεβασμό στο παιδί & την ουσιαστική συνεργασία με τους γονείς.

Prejuniors – First meeting with parents Στις 22 Σεπτεμβρίου 2015, στα σχολεία της Νίκαιας και του Πειραιά έγιναν οι καθιερωμένες συναντήσεις των καθηγητών μας με τους γονείς των μαθητών των νηπιακών μας τμημάτων, Prejuniors. Οι καθηγήτριές μας κ. Αρβανίτη και κ. Χρηστίδη στον Πειραιά και η κ. Κώνστα στη Νίκαια, παρουσίασαν το πρόγραμμα και τους στόχους της τάξης, συνομίλησαν με τους γονείς, δίνοντας απαντήσεις σε εύλογα ερωτήματα σχετικά με τον τρόπο διδασκαλίας και προσέγγισης των μικρών μαθητών.

Το Σάββατο 3 Οκτωβρίου 2015 πραγματοποιήθηκε στα σχολεία του Πειραιά και της Νίκαιας συνάντηση των καθηγητών της Α’ Προκαταρκτικής με τους γονείς των μαθητών μας. Οι διευθύντριες του Πειραιά, κ.Ολυμπία Σούτη και της Νίκαιας, κ.Αλέκα Κοτοπούλη καλωσόρισαν τους γονείς. Στη συνέχεια η Γενική Διευθύντρια Σπουδών και συντονίστρια του επιπέδου, κ.Ινώ Παναγιώτου μίλησε για τους στόχους της τάξης. Τέλος οι καθηγητές του επιπέδου κ.Γιάννης Χαρίτος, κ.Χρύσα Αρβανίτη και κ.Ελενα Χρηστίδη, παρουσίασαν τα βιβλία, την μεθοδολογία και επεσήμαναν την σπουδαιότητα της συνεργασίας γονέων και καθηγητών καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του διδακτικού έτους. Η μεγάλη συμμετοχή των γονέων καθώς και η ευχάριστη συζήτηση που ακολούθησε έκανα την συγκέντρωση ιδιαίτερα επιτυχημένη.

Μία πολύ πετυχημένη συγκέντρωση των γονέων των μαθητών της Α΄ τάξης έγινε το Σάββατο 3 Οκτωβρίου 2015 στα σχολεία της Νίκαιας και του Πειραιά. Η συντονίστρια του επιπέδου κ.Αννα Φριτζελά, μαζί με τους καθηγητές παρουσίασαν την φιλοσοφία και τους στόχους της τάξης (Senior A). Στη συνάντηση παρευρέθηκαν η διευθύντρια του Πειραιά, κ.Ολυμπία Σούτη και της Νίκαιας κ. Αλέκα Κοτοπούλη.

To Σάββατο 24 Οκτωβρίου 2015 πραγματοποιήθηκε γενική ενημερωτική συγκέντρωση όλων των γονέων των τάξεων D & Lower. Τους γονείς καλωσόρισαν οι κκ Μαριάννα και Ντιάνα Παπαηλιού

και εν συνεχεία γνωρίστηκαν με τους

καθηγητές και ενημερώθηκαν από τις coordinators κες Μάρθα Χαρατσή και Στέλλα Λεμονή για τους στόχους των αντίστοιχων τάξεων.

ENHMEΡΩΤΙΚΕΣ ΣΥΝΑΝΤΗΣΕΙΣ

Στις 22 Σεπτεμβρίου 2015 έγινε στο σχολείο της Νίκαιας η ενημερωτική συγκέντρωση των γονέων και κηδεμόνων των μαθητών μας των νηπιακών τμημάτων. Η καθηγήτριά μας κ. ‘Ελια Κώνστα είχε την ευκαιρία να παρουσιάσει στους γονείς το πρόγραμμα και τους στόχους του επιπέδου.

Στις 3 Οκτωβρίου 2015 έγινε στο σχολείο της Νίκαιας η ενημερωτική συγκέντρωση των γονέων και μαθητών μας της πρώτης προκαταρτικής. Κατά τη διάρκεια της συγκέντρωσης είχαμε την ευκαιρία να παρουσιάσουμε το εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα του Αγγλικού μας τμήματος, τη μεθοδολογία μας και τους στόχους του επιπέδου. Στην παρουσίαση πήραν μέρος η Γενική Διευθύντρια και συντονίστρια του επιπέδου κ. Ινώ Παναγιώτου, η Διευθύντρια του σχολείου κ. Αλέκα Κοτοπούλη και οι καθηγητές κ. Χρύσα Αρβανίτη, κ. Έλενα Χρηστίδη, κ. Γιάννης Χαρίτος και κ. Έλια Κώνστα.

Στις 3 Οκτωβρίου 2015, η συντονίστρια της Α’ τάξης κ. Άννα Φριτζελά και οι καθηγητές του σχολείου της Νίκαιας κ. Μίνα Παραδεισοπούλου και κ. Γιάννης Χαρίτος παρουσίασαν τους στόχους του επιπέδου στους γονείς και κηδεμόνες των μαθητών μας.

Από τη φετινή σχολική χρονιά, με την ολοκλήρωση των μαθημάτων της D τάξης, το πρόγραμμα σπουδών του σχολείου μας διαφοροποιείται για τον καθένα σπουδαστή μας ξεχωριστά και διαμορφώνεται ανάλογα με τις επιδόσεις στις τελικές ενδοσχολικές εξετάσεις και στις 4 βασικές γλωσσικές ικανότητες ( Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking ) του τεστ Aptis, στο οποίο θα πάρουν μέρος οι μαθητές μας τον Απρίλιο 2016.

Στις 24 Οκτωβρίου 2015 η συντονίστρια των C και Dτάξεων κ. Στέλλα Λεμονή ενημέρωσε στο σχολείο της Νίκαιας τους γονείς και κηδεμόνες των μαθητών της D τάξης σχετικά με αυτήν την πρωτοποριακή μέθοδο αξιολόγησης της γλώσσας ( Aptis for Teens ), τους λόγους για τους οποίους επιλέχθηκε και την πορεία των μαθητών μέχρι τις εξετάσεις για το πτυχίο Lower ( B2 ).

Στις 24 Οκτωβρίου 2015 στο σχολείο της Νίκαιας έγινε η γενική ενημερωτική συνάντηση για τους γονείς και κηδεμόνες των μαθητών μας της Lower τάξης. Η συντονίστρια των Ε και Lower τάξεων κ. Μάρθα Χαρατσή παρουσίασε τους στόχους του επιπέδου και ενημέρωσε τους γονείς και κηδεμόνες για τα αναγνωρισμένα πτυχία και την ισχύ τους στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό. Στη συνάντηση παρευρέθησαν η Γενική Διευθύντρια κ.Ντιάνα Παπαηλιού, η Διευθύντρια του σχολείου κ. Αλέκα Κοτοπούλη και οι καθηγήτριες κ.κ. Στέλλα Λεμονή και Νίκη Χατζηγιαννάκη.

ΓΙΟΡΤΗ ΑΠΟΝΟΜΗΣ ΠΤΥΧΙΩΝ ΝΟΕΜΒΡΙΟΣ 2015 Όπως συνηθίζεται τα τελευταία χρόνια, η εκδήλωση της απονομής πτυχίων Μαΐου 2015 έγινε στις 22 Νοεμβρίου 2015 στο σχολείο της Νίκαιας. Η λαμπρή αυτή εκδήλωση είχε ιδιαίτερη σημασία αυτήν τη χρονιά γιατί εφέτος τα Κέντρα Ξένων Γλωσσών ΠΑΠΑΗΛΙΟΥ γιορτάζουν τα 60 χρόνια λειτουργίας τους παραμένοντας σταθερά στην κορυφή της ξενόγλωσσης εκπαίδευσης, καθώς αποτελούν για γονείς, μαθητές, φοιτητές και επαγγελματίες εγγυημένη επιλογή για την επιτυχία. Οι εκατοντάδες επιτυχόντες μαθητές κάθε χρόνο αποτελούν απόδειξη της εξαιρετικής δουλειάς που γίνεται στα σχολεία μας, με το έμπειρο διδακτικό προσωπικό και τις καινοτόμες και πρωτοποριακές μεθόδους και προγράμματα σπουδών. Η γιορτή ξεκίνησε με την χαρισματική ομιλία της Γενικής Διευθύντριας των Σχολών κας Ντιάνας Παπαηλιού, η οποία έκανε μια αναδρομή στην επιτυχημένη 60χρονη πορεία του σχολείου μας στο χώρο της ξενόγλωσσης εκπαίδευσης, μιας παράλληλης πορείας με αυτήν της μεταπολεμικής Ελλάδας. Πριν 60 χρόνια ο διορατικός κος Παναγιώτης Παπαηλιού ίδρυσε το σχολείο στον Πειραιά, η δεύτερη γενιά του ιδρυτή, οι κόρες του κ.κ. Μαριάννα και Ντιάνα Παπαηλιού συνέχισαν το έργο του και δημιούργησαν άλλα δυο σχολεία, ένα στον Πειραιά και ένα στη Νίκαια, και η τρίτη γενιά, η εγγονή του κα Ινώ Παναγιώτου, φιλοδοξεί να αναπτύξει το σχολείο ακόμη περισσότερο. Στη συνέχεια, η κα Παπαηλιού τόνισε πόσο ανάγκη έχει η χώρα μας από τα οράματα, το κέφι και τις πρωτοποριακές ιδέες των νέων παιδιών για να ξαναμπεί στο δρόμο της προόδου κι ευχήθηκε στα παιδιά να αποκτήσουν βαθειά ψυχική και πνευματική μόρφωση που οδηγεί στην αδογμάτιστη ελεύθερη σκέψη και να είναι πάντα ευτυχισμένα. Μετά την ομιλία, ακολούθησε η απονομή των πιστοποιητικών γλωσσομάθειας των αγγλικών, γαλλικών, γερμανικών, ισπανικών και ρώσικων τμημάτων και αμέσως μετά η Διεύθυνση των Σχολών διοργάνωσε ένα υπέροχο barbeque πάρτι στον προαύλιο χώρο του σχολείου με υπέροχα εδέσματα, μουσική και αστείρευτο κέφι !!! Οι παρευρισκόμενοι είχαν επίσης την ευκαιρία να απολαύσουν προβολή φωτογραφιών από το αρχείο του σχολείου μας. Mέσα σε ένα συγκινησιακά φορτισμένο κλίμα, oι παλιοί συνάδελφοι ξαναθυμήθηκαν και οι νεώτεροι είχαν την τύχη να δουν - έστω εικονικά πρόσωπα που σημάδεψαν με την παρουσία τους την πορεία του σχολείου και παλιές εκδηλώσεις. Κατά γενική ομολογία, η εκδήλωση άφησε τις καλύτερες εντυπώσεις. Θερμά συγχαρητήρια σε όλους τους μαθητές μας, στην συμπαράσταση των γονιών τους στο εκπαιδευτικό μας έργο, αλλά και στην άψογη οργάνωση των Διευθυντριών των Σχολών μας, κ. Μαίρης Ρηγοπούλου, κ. Αλέκας Κοτοπούλη και κ. Ολυμπίας Σούτη. Και του χρόνου !!!

Αwards 2015 Διπλή γιορτή η σημερινή. Οι επιτυχίες σας από τη μια, επιτυχίες που αγγίζουν το 100%, και από την άλλη ο εορτασμός των εξήντα χρόνων επιτυχημένης πορείας του σχολείου μας στο χώρο της ξενόγλωσσης εκπαίδευσης.

60 χρόνια παράλληλης πορείας με αυτήν της μεταπολεμικής Ελλάδας. Η ιδέα ενός Ινστιτούτου ξένων γλωσσών όπως το αποκαλούσαν τότε, γεννήθηκε στο μυαλό του πατέρα μας Παναγιώτη Παπαηλιού, ενός σπουδαίου παιδαγωγού, στα μέσα της δεκαετίας του 50. Στη συνέχεια οι κόρες του Μαριάννα Παπαηλιού, ψυχή του σχολείου για τέσσερις τουλάχιστον δεκαετίες και εγώ, η δεύτερη γενιά, προχωρήσαμε ιδρύοντας δύο ακόμα σχολεία. Τέλος η τρίτη γενιά, η εγγονή του Παναγιώτη Παπαηλιού, Ινώ Παναγιώτου, συνεχίζει το έργο ζωής του ιδρυτή και εμπνευστή μας προσθέτοντας την προσωπική σφραγίδα της γενιάς της. Το χρονικό της πορείας του σχολείου μας ξεκινάει 60 χρόνια πριν, το 1955 όταν ο Παναγιώτης Παπαηλιού αποφασίζει να πάρει το ρίσκο και να εγκαταλείψει τη θέση του διευθυντή στην Ράλλειο Παιδαγωγική Ακαδημία και να μεταπηδήσει στον ιδιωτικό τομέα, πιστεύοντας πως είχε έρθει η ώρα μιας νέας εποχής που θα επένδυε στην εξωστρέφεια και στην επικοινωνία. Η επιτυχία αυτού του νεωτεριστικού εγχειρήματος ήταν τεράστια αλλά και αναμενόμενη, γιατί ο Παναγιώτης Παπαηλιού ήταν ένας άνθρωπος διορατικός και βαθύτατα μορφωμένος για την εποχή του. Απόφοιτος της Φιλοσοφικής Αθηνών εν έτη 1920,όταν το φοιτητικό δυναμικό της σχολής αποτελείτο από 15 φοιτητές. Άνθρωπος με λαμπρές μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στα πιο γνωστά πανεπιστήμια της Αμερικής (Harvard, Βoston and Columbia university) στην παιδαγωγική επιστήμη, με πάθος για το παιδί, με πίστη στην αξία των γλωσσών σαν εργαλείο επικοινωνίας, μετάδοσης ιδεών αλλά και πηγή σκέψης και πολιτισμού.

Το 1955 ιδρύεται το Iνστιτούτο Ξένων Γλωσσών Παπαηλιού στον Πειραιά, μια πόλη ρημαγμένη από την φτώχεια της κατοχής και τους βομβαρδισμούς του πολέμου και της εμφύλιας σύρραξης. Μικρό παιδάκι τότε θυμάμαι τις φτωχικές γειτονιές με τους χωμάτινους δρόμους. Θυμάμαι τις αυλές των σπιτιών με τις παμπάλαιες μουριές. Έχω ακόμα στα αυτιά μου τις φωνές των παιδιών να παίζουν γκαζάκια, αμπάριζα και κυνηγητό, στους έρημους από αυτοκίνητα δρόμους. Θυμάμαι τον πάγο να μοιράζεται στα σπίτια, το γάλα να το μαζεύουν οι νοικοκυρές από τις εξώπορτες, τον μανάβη με το κάρο να διαλαλεί τη πραμάτεια του, τον μπακάλη της γειτονιάς να πουλά φέτα στη λαδόκολλα και ρέγκα και σαρδέλες στην εφημερίδα. Θυμάμαι τον μαγικό κόσμο του ψιλικατζίδικου. Και τι δε βρίσκαμε εκεί. Από γλειφιτζούρια, τσιχλόφουσκες, και χαλκομανίες μέχρι τις θεϊκές μικρές εικόνες των ειδώλων μας. Σύμβολα της ατίθασης εφηβείας μας...Μάρλον Μπράντο, Τζέιμς Ντίν, Χόφρευ Μπόγκαρντ, Μπριζίτ Μπαρντό, Σοφία Λώρεν, Μέριλιν Μονρόε. Βλέπεις για μας τότε το σινεμά ήταν η μόνη διέξοδος από τη μίζερη ζωή μας. Δραπετεύαμε από την πείνα, την ανεργία, την μετανάστευση. Αναμνήσεις 60 χρόνων… Θυμάμαι, θυμάμαι … Κάναμε όνειρα δίπλα σε ξυλόσομπες και μαγκάλια. Ονειρευόμαστε πως ταξιδεύαμε σε χώρες πλούσιες και εξωτικές. Μας ταξίδευε ο Χέμινγουεϊ, ο Φωκνερ, ο Πώλ Γουίτμαν και ο Καμύ. Διαβάζαμε, διαβάζαμε ασταμάτητα και ταξιδεύαμε με τα φτερά του νου. Χορεύαμε ρόκ και τραγουδούσαμε μπαλάντες. Έρχεται η δεκαετία του εξήντα και οι οικογένειες αρχίζουν να παίρνουν ανάσες. Οι νοικοκυρές αγοράζουν ηλεκτρικά ψυγεία και πλυντήρια. Το τηλέφωνο και η τηλεόραση μπαίνουν στη ζωή μας. Οι Beatles και οι Rolling Stones μας συντροφεύουν στα εφηβικά μας party. Ακούμε Χατζηδάκη και Θεοδωράκη και ονειρευόμαστε με Σεφέρη, Ελύτη και Ρίτσο. Και βέβαια φωνή της συνείδησης μας γίνεται ο Καβάφης. Τέλος του εξήντα ήρθε η εποχή που ο άνθρωπος πάει στο φεγγάρι. Το εβδομήντα οι ρυθμοί γίνονται όλο και πιο γρήγοροι. Το αυτοκίνητο εισβάλει στη ζωή μας. Πέφτει η χούντα και επιτέλους αρχίζουμε να αναπνέουμε ελεύθερα. Το ογδόντα αρχίζουν οι μετανάστες να επιστρέφουν. Οι ρυθμοί ανάπτυξης της χώρας επιταχύνονται. Οι άνθρωποι ανακαλύπτουν τη γοητεία του χρήματος. Το ενενήντα αρχίζουμε να καταναλώνουμε ολοένα και περισσότερο. Το δυο χιλιάδες το πλαστικό χρήμα γίνεται όλο και πιο ελκυστικό. Διευκολύνει την καταναλωτική μας μανία. Όλοι μας βιώνουμε μια πρωτόγνωρη εποχή ευμάρειας που τελικά μας κάνει όλο και πιο ανικανοποίητους. Όλο περισσότερο καταναλωτικούς. Πάψαμε να ονειρευόμαστε με Ρίτσο και Καβάφη. Η ζωή τρέχει σε ρυθμούς fastfood και μέσα σε αυτή τη παραζάλη δεν ακούμε τα πρώτα μηνύματα της επερχόμενης οικονομικής καταστροφής 2008 Λίμαν μπραδερς. Η πρώτη φούσκα σκάει. Ανακαλύπτουμε απορημένοι ότι εμείς τελικά είμαστε οι ασθενέστεροι κρίκοι της αλυσίδας. Μας λένε ότι καταναλώνουμε χωρίς να παράγουμε. Μαθαίνουμε ότι όλα αυτά τα χρόνια ζούσαμε με δανεικά και ότι τώρα ήρθε η ώρα όλοι μαζί να πληρώσουμε τον λογαριασμό. Θα τα καταφέρουμε? Θα τα καταφέρει η χώρα? Θα τα καταφέρει το μικρό μας σχολείο? Βίοι παράλληλοι. Ταξιδέψαμε από τον πάγο στο ηλεκτρικό ψυγείο. Από το βινύλιο στο DVD.Από την ταινία μαγνητοφώνου στο στικάκι. Από την κιμωλία στο whiteboard. Κι όμως αυτό που κάνει τη μεγάλη διαφορά τελικά δεν είναι το μέσο. Αυτό που κάνει τη διαφορά είναι ο ίδιος ο άνθρωπος και οι αξίες του. Βίοι παράλληλοι .Ταξιδέψαμε επί 60 χρόνια οδηγώντας το μικρό μας 20

καράβι στο ανοιχτό πέλαγος αντιμετωπίζοντας φουρτούνες και θύελλες. Και όμως το καραβάκι ήταν από γερό σκαρί. Αντέξαμε. Αλλάξαμε μηχανές, καπετάνιους και πλήρωμα. Και πάλι αντέξαμε. Τώρα ήρθαν πάλι τα δύσκολα. Νέες προκλήσεις. Τώρα τον δρόμο της ξενιτιάς δεν τον παίρνουν οι ανήμποροι και οι λιγότερο προικισμένοι. Τώρα μας φεύγουν τα καλύτερα παιδιά. Τα καλύτερα μυαλά της χώρας. Αυτήν την αιμορραγία πρέπει να σταματήσουμε. Εσάς πρέπει να κρατήσουμε στη χώρα. Εσάς τα ανήσυχα πνεύματα που διψάτε για μόρφωση και γνώση. Εσάς χρειάζεται η χώρα για να ξαναμπεί στο δρόμο της προόδου. Εσάς και τα οράματα σας, το κέφι σας και τις πρωτοποριακές σας ιδέες έχουμε ανάγκη. Δεν προσπαθώ να καλλιεργήσω φρούδες ελπίδες. Είναι βαθειά πίστη μου ότι με συνεργασία ουσιαστική, πειθαρχία και έμπνευση μπορούμε να μεγαλουργήσουμε. Όλα είναι θέμα ψυχολογίας και διάθεσης να μαθαίνουμε από τα λάθη μας και να θέλουμε να αλλάξουμε τα κακώς κείμενα. Πολλές φορές μας απασχολούν νέοι άνθρωποι που νομίζουν ότι δεν μπορούν να επιτύχουν τους στόχους τους. Έχουν εθιστεί στην απάθεια και την χαμηλή αυτοεκτίμηση. Πιστέψτε με το μόνο που κάνουμε για να τους βοηθήσουμε είναι κάτω από τα μπάζα της χαμένης τους αυτοπεποίθησης να ξεσκεπάσουμε τις κρυμμένες τους ικανότητες. Και ναι αυτοί οι άνθρωποι κάνουν και θα κάνουν ακόμα περισσότερα θαύματα. Η αναγέννηση της χώρας πλησιάζει αρκεί να πιστέψουμε στους εαυτούς μας και να μην πάψουμε να αγωνιζόμαστε για τα ιδανικά μας. Κλείνοντας, κάτω από συγκινησιακά φορτισμένη ατμόσφαιρα, κάτω από το βάρος των πρόσφατων γεγονότων στο Παρίσι, πέρα και πάνω από όλα πρέπει να διαφυλάξουμε την ανθρωπιά μας, την πίστη στον άνθρωπο και στο δικαίωμα της ελεύθερης έκφρασης και της ελεύθερης σκέψης. Ας μην αφήσουμε τη βία και το μίσος να δηλητηριάζουν τις ψυχές μας. Η βία είναι θάνατος κι ο θάνατος δεν είναι ποτέ η λύση. Η λύση είναι και θα παραμείνει για πάντα η ζωή, η ελευθερία, η ελπίδα. Η λύση είναι η βαθειά εκείνη μόρφωση, ψυχική και πνευματική, που οδηγεί στην αδογμάτιστη, ελεύθερη σκέψη. Αυτό είναι το απόλυτο όπλο σας. Αυτό είναι το πιστεύω μας. Εύχομαι να είστε πάντα ευτυχισμένοι και η σκέψη σας να είναι ακηδεμόνευτη και ελεύθερη. Ντιάνα Παπαηλιού

--------------------Παιδικό θέατρο: Τα ψηλά βουνά Κυριακή 20/12/2015 11:30 Την Κυριακή 20 Δεκεμβρίου, το αγγλικό τμήμα των Κ.Ξ.Γ. ΠΑΠΑΗΛΙΟΥ διοργάνωσε μια θεατρική έξοδο στο θέατρο Ακροπόλ. Το έργο «Τα ψηλά βουνά», βασισμένο στο βιβλίο του Ζαχαρία Παπαντωνίου και εμπλουτισμένο με ψηφιακές προβολές από τις αυθεντικές εικόνες του βιβλίου, ενθουσίασε μικρούς και μεγάλους. Οι ήρωες του βιβλίου που ζωντάνεψαν σαν μια παρέα μαθητών του δημοτικού πάνω στην σκηνή, έκαναν τους μικρούς θεατές να νιώσουν μέρος αυτής της παρέας, να μάθουν περισσότερα για τη φύση και πόσο σημαντικό είναι να συμμετέχεις και να προσφέρεις σε μια ομάδα.

Christmas Party – Venizelou This year was a special year as 2015 marked our school’s 60 year anniversary, which meant that our Christmas party at the Venizelou building would be special on Tuesday 22nd of December. This is because a lot of our colleagues came from our Nikea and Karaiskou schools and made our annual event memorable. The catering had been arranged by Ms Ino Panayotou and I must say was a great success. (in fact we still have a couple of kilos to lose from Christmas.)

We ate and drank a lot and were generally very merry as the season dictates. We opened our presents with great zeal (some more than others) and went home a little dizzy but content!

Πίτα Σχολείου Την Τετάρτη 20 Ιανουαρίου 2016 έγινε η καθιερωμένη κοπή πίτας του σχολείου. Όπως πάντα το κέικ ήταν νοστιμότατο και καταναλώθηκε ευχάριστα από όλους. PR.1 VOCABULARY WORKSHOP (Nikea)

Στα πλαίσια της σωστής εκμάθησης της Αγγλικής γλώσσας οι καθηγητές των Pr1 τάξεων του σχολείου της Νίκαιας, κος Γιάννης Χαρίτος και κα Έλια Κώνστα, διοργάνωσαν ένα σεμινάριο για τους μικρούς μας μαθητές με στόχο να μάθουν να μελετούν μόνοι τους το λεξιλόγιο. Τα παιδιά κυριολεκτικά το ευχαριστήθηκαν και μας ζήτησαν να το επαναλάβουμε!!! *************************************************************** PR.1 VOCABULARY WORKSHOP (Peiraias) Το Σάββατο 12 Δεκεμβρίου 2015 οι καθηγητές και καθηγήτριες της Pr1 διοργάνωσαν σεμινάριο για τους μικρούς μας μαθητές. Σκοπός του σεμιναρίου ήταν να μάθουν τα παιδιά πώς να διαβάζουν το καινούργιο λεξιλόγιο στο σπίτι και πώς να κάνουν επανάληψη πριν τις εξετάσεις. Ο κ.Χαρίτος και η κα Κώνστα στη Νίκαια και οι κκ Αρβανίτη και Χρηστίδη στον Πειραιά υποδέχτηκαν τους μικρούς μαθητές που έδειξαν έντονο ενδιαφέρον και συμμετείχαν με ενθουσιασμό στο σεμινάριο.

Θεατρική παράσταση στα Αγγλικά !!! Μια εντυπωσιακή, κατά γενική ομολογία, χριστουγεννιάτικη γιορτή είχαν την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσουν, όσοι παρευρέθησαν στην αίθουσα εκδηλώσεων του σχολείου της Νίκαιας στις 17 Δεκεμβρίου 2015, όπου οι μαθητές της Α’ τάξης της κ. Αλέκας Κοτοπούλη και οι μαθητές της Δευτέρας Προκαταρτικής της κ. Μίνας Παραδεισοπούλου παρουσίασαν τη θεατρική παράσταση « Santa’s cookie problem » στα Αγγλικά. Μέσα από την παράσταση αυτή οι μαθητές είχαν τη δυνατότητα να αναδείξουν τα ταλέντα τους, να αναπτύξουν τη φαντασία και το αίσθημα της συλλογικής ευθύνης και συνεργασίας και να εξασκήσουν την αγγλική γλώσσα. Παρόλο τον ελάχιστο χρόνο προετοιμασίας λόγω σχολικών υποχρεώσεων των παιδιών, οι μαθητές δουλεύοντας με ιδιαίτερο ζήλο, ερμήνευσαν τους ρόλους τους με μεγάλη επιτυχία, αποσπώντας έτσι το ένθερμο χειροκρότημα των συμμαθητών τους, των γονέων και των δασκάλων τους για το εξαιρετικό αποτέλεσμα. Συγχαρητήρια σε όλους τους μαθητές και στις καθηγήτριές τους για την συμμετοχή τους και τον χρόνο που αφιέρωσαν στην προετοιμασία αυτής της υπέροχης θεατρικής παράστασης !!!!!

Pre Juniors Open lessons Στις 24 & 25 Φεβρουαρίου 2016 οι τάξεις μας των Prejuniors 1 & Prejuniors 2 του Πειραιά και οι καθηγήτριές τους κ. Ελενα Χρηστίδη και κ. Χρύσα Αρβανίτη φιλοξένησαν στον μάθημά τους, τους γονείς και κηδεμόνες των μικρών μας μαθητών και τους δόθηκε η ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσουν πως γίνεται το μάθημα και να δουν την πρόοδο των παιδιών από την αρχή της χρονιάς. Η μέθοδος που χρησιμοποιούμε στο επίπεδο των Prejuniors δίνει τη δυνατότητα στην καθηγήτρια και τους μαθητές μας να χρησιμοποιούν μόνο Αγγλικά στο μάθημα! Οι γονείς έφυγαν κατενθουσιασμένοι!

ΤΑΞΙΔΙ ΣΤΟ ΠΑΡΙΣΙ Μέρος του προσωπικού της Βενιζέλου έχει ξεκινήσει εδω και χρόνια “εποπτεία” στις χώρες που μιλούν τις γλώσσες που διδάσκονται στο σχολείο μας! Έτσι μετά από το ταξίδι στο Λονδίνο (Αγγλική γλώσσα) και πέρσι στο Μόναχο (Γερμανική γλώσσα) φέτος 1η Μαΐου 2015 έγινε εξόρμηση στο Παρίσι (Γαλλική γλώσσα). Κυριάρχησε ο πολιτισμός ,ο θαυμασμός, η κούραση και..... το αστείρευτο γέλιο. Επόμενος στόχος μας πάνω απ’ όλα με υγεία..........η Ρώσικη & Ισπανική γλώσσα !!

PreJuniors Theatre Play Στις 28 Μαΐου 2015 η κ. Τίνα Στεργίου διοργάνωσε ένα εξαιρετικά επιτυχημένο πάρτι αποφοίτησης των μαθητών μας των νηπιακών τμημάτων στο σχολείο της Νίκαιας. Τα μωρούλια μας παρουσίασαν μέσα από σκετσάκια και τραγούδια ό,τι διδάχτηκαν όλη τη χρονιά. Όλοι μας κατασυγκινηθήκαμε και ευχηθήκαμε καλή συνέχεια στα παιδιά μας !!! ********************************************************************* PreJuniors Theatre Plays Την Τετάρτη στις 27 Μαΐου και την Πέμπτη 28 Μαΐου οι κυρίες Χρύσα Αρβανίτη και Έλενα Χρηστίδη αντίστοιχα, παρουσίασαν με τους μαθητές των νηπιακών τμημάτων σκετσάκια και τραγούδια που έμαθαν κατά τη διάρκεια της χρονιάς. Όλοι γονείς και καθηγητές ενθουσιάστηκαν με την ωραία γιορτούλα!!!

ΓΙΟΡΤΗ ΑΠΟΦΟΙΤΗΣΗΣ ΣΤΟ ΣΧΟΛΕΙΟ ΤΗΣ ΝΙΚΑΙΑΣ

Στις 27 Μαΐου 2015, αμέσως μετά τις τελικές εξετάσεις των παιδιών, η Διευθύντρια του σχολείου της Νίκαιας κα Αλέκα Κοτοπούλη διοργάνωσε ένα πάρτι αποφοίτησης στον προαύλιο χώρο του σχολείου με στόχο να ευχαριστήσει όλους τους συντελεστές της προηγούμενης επιτυχημένης και δημιουργικής χρονιάς: τους εκπαιδευτικούς, τους γονείς και τους κηδεμόνες και κυρίως τα παιδιά μας! Τόσο οι γονείς όσο και οι μαθητές είχαν την ευκαιρία να απολαύσουν το παγωτό τους υπό τον ήχο της μουσικής, να συνομιλήσουν με το εκπαιδευτικό προσωπικό και να ενημερωθούν για τα εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα του σχολείου από την Γενική Διευθύντρια των Σχολών κα Ινώ Παναγιώτου, τη Διευθύντρια του σχολείου κα Αλέκα Κοτοπούλη, την 28

Διευθύντρια του Γαλλικού μας τμήματος κα Αζάτ Δουργουτιάν και τις καθηγήτριες κ.κ. Ελίζα Δουργουτιάν, και Πέννυ Δέδε. Όλοι ανανεώσαμε το ραντεβού μας τον προσεχή Σεπτέμβριο με την υπόσχεση να επαναλάβουμε αυτήν την υπέροχη πρωτοβουλία !!! ********************************************************************* Την Πέμπτη 11 Ιουνίου 2015 η Βασιλική Δαρεμά μαθήτρια της A class πήρε μέρος στη γιορτή λήξης της σχολικής χρονιάς 2014-15 του 34ου δημοτικού σχολείου Καλλιπόλεως. Η γιορτή είχε θέμα την Αγάπη και συγκεκριμένα οι μαθητές της Δ΄ δημοτικού επέλεξαν να την εκφράσουν χορεύοντας την Αγάπη απ’ όλο τον κόσμο. Η Βασιλική διάλεξε την πόλη του φωτός που ονειρεύεται να την επισκεφθεί σύντομα!!!

Vive la France!!!!

Η Φλώρα Δασκαλά είναι 10 χρονών και είναι μαθήτρια του 13ου Δημοτικού Σχολείου Κερατσινίου και μαθήτρια του Κ.Ξ.Γ. ΠΑΠΑΗΛΙΟΥ στο Τμήμα PR2.3 με καθηγήτρια την κα Χρύσα Αρβανίτη. Τον Μάρτιο του 2015 η Φλώρα κέρδισε βραβείο στον Διαγωνισμό Ζωγραφικής του Δήμου Κερατσινίου με θέμα «ΤΟ ΒΙΒΛΙΟ». Η ζωγραφιά της με θέμα «τα βιβλία ανοίγουν πόρτες στην μάθηση» κέρδισε την πρώτη θέση στο σχολείου της και την 6η πανελλαδικά. Γι’ αυτό και ο Δήμος Κερατσινίου δημιούργησε σελιδοδείκτες με την ζωγραφιά της Φλώρας. Έχει παρακολουθήσει μαθήματα σχεδίου και θέλει να συνεχίσει στο μέλλον να ασχολείται με την ζωγραφική. Άλλη της μεγάλη αγάπη είναι το διάβασμα και η αγγλική γλώσσα.

Συνάντηση γονέων στο Σχολείο της Νίκαιας Την Τετάρτη 16/3/2016 πραγματοποιήθηκε στην αίθουσα εκδηλώσεων του σχολείου της Νίκαιας συνάντηση με τη Διεύθυνση και τους γονείς των μαθητών όλων των επιπέδων. Η Γενική Διευθύντρια των Σχολών κα Ντιάνα Παπαηλιού και η Διευθύντρια του σχολείου της Νίκαιας κα Αλέκα Κοτοπούλη ευχαρίστησαν τους γονείς για την εμπιστοσύνη τους και τους ενημέρωσαν για εκπαιδευτικά θέματα. Ήταν μια πολύ εποικοδομητική συνάντηση!!!

Δωρεά ρούχων στους πρόσφυγες Σχολείο Πειραιά (Καραϊσκου) Στα πλαίσια της στήριξης των προσφύγων, το σχολείο μας με την συμμετοχή των γονιών και των μαθητών μας, συγκέντρωσε, παιδικά μπουφάν, κουβέρτες και πετσέτες, τα οποία συσκευάσαμε και στείλαμε μέσω της εταιρείας Courier Γενική Ταχυδρομική, στον κοινωνικό φορέα – Ελληνική Ομάδα Διάσωσης Σάμου.

Τρόφιμα για τα Χριστούγεννα Για ακόμη μια φορά οι μαθητές των σχολείων μας συμμετείχαν στη συγκέντρωση τροφίμων. Οι μαθητές του σχολείου της Νίκαιας συγκέντρωσαν τρόφιμα, τα οποία προσφέρθηκαν στους απόρους των Ιερών ναών του Αγίου Ιωάννου Ρέντη και Κοίμησης της Θεοτόκου στην Ανθούσα. Οι μαθητές των σχολείων του Πειραιά μάζεψαν τρόφιμα για την φιλανθρωπική οργάνωση «Ο Καλός Σαμαρείτης» και για τα γεύματα των απόρων του Αγίου Βασιλείου.

PreJuniors – Open lesson!!! Στις 18 Δεκεμβρίου 2016 η καθηγήτρια του νηπιακού μας τμήματος στη Νίκαια κα Έλια Κώνστα υποδέχτηκε στην τάξη της τους γονείς και κηδεμόνες των μικρών μας μαθητών. Οι γονείς παρακολούθησαν πώς γίνεται το μάθημα μέσα στην τάξη και ενημερώθηκαν για τις γνώσεις που είχαν αποκτήσει τα παιδιά. Όλοι κατενθουσιάστηκαν με τη μέθοδο του σχολείου μας, η οποία δίνει τη δυνατότητα σε καθηγητές και μαθητές να χρησιμοποιούν μόνο Αγγλικά καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του μαθήματος !!! ****************************************************************

Ημέρα Γαλλοφωνίας στο σχολείο της Νίκαιας. Παίξαμε, διασκεδάσαμε και γευτήκαμε γαλλικά macarons. Από το 1995 και κάθε Μάρτιο γιορτάζεται η γαλλοφωνία σε όλον τον κόσμο δεδομένου ότι η γαλλική γλώσσα δεν αποτελεί αποκλειστικό προνόμιο των Γάλλων. Η γαλλική είναι επίσημη γλώσσα 29 χωρών και 275 εκατομμυρίων ανθρώπων και ομιλείται και στις 5 ηπείρους. Ο Διεθνής Οργανισμός Γαλλοφωνίας, που περιλαμβάνει 80 κράτη είναι ένας οργανισμός που προωθεί τις αξίες της δημοκρατίας και των ανθρώπινων δικαιωμάτων και συνεισφέρει στην ειρηνική επίλυση των διαφορών. Επομένως, η γαλλοφωνία είναι κάτι πιο ευρύ από μια ομάδα χωρών που μοιράζονται μια γλώσσα.

Η ημέρα Γαλλοφωνίας γιορτάστηκε και στο σχολείο του Πειραιά. Οι μαθητές των γαλλικών τμημάτων τραγούδησαν, απήγγειλαν γαλλικά ποιήματα και προσπάθησαν να μεταφέρουν το μήνυμα της Γαλλοφωνίας στα υπόλοιπα παιδιά.

Υπήρχε και παιχνίδι γνώσεων που αφορούσε τη Γαλλία , τη Γαλλική Γλώσσα και τη Γαλλοφωνία. Στο τέλος ανταμείψαμε την προσπάθεια όλων των παιδιών με ένα γαλλικό γλύκισμα, macaron. Το τμήμα της κυρίας Χρηστίδη πήρε το κύπελλο και τα μετάλλια διότι νίκησε στο παιχνίδι γνώσεων.

Le jour de la crêpe Με ιδιαίτερη χαρά οι μαθητές του Cours I γιόρτασαν την ημέρα της κρέπας την 1η Φεβρουαρίου 2016 στο Σχολείο της Νίκαιας. Είναι πια μια παράδοση του φροντιστηρίου μας που την περιμένουν όλες οι τάξεις με ιδιαίτερη χαρά.

Αποκριάτικος Χορός - ΝΙΚΑΙΑ Με επιτυχία έγινε στις 11 Μαρτίου 2016 το ετήσιο αποκριάτικο πάρτυ που διοργάνωσε η Διευθύντρια του σχολείου της Νίκαιας, κ. Αλέκα Κοτοπούλη, για τους μαθητές των prejuniors, Pr1, Pr2, Ακαι Β τάξεων. Η συμμετοχή ήταν πολύ μεγάλη και οι μεταμφιέσεις των παιδιών εξαιρετικά εντυπωσιακές. Πολύ κέφι, εκπαιδευτικά παιχνίδια και διαγωνισμός καραόκε προσέφεραν χαρά και πολλά χαμόγελα στα παιδιά. Θερμές ευχαριστίες στη γραμματέα του σχολείου κ. Λία Καλαμάρα και στους καθηγητές μας: κ. Γιάννη Χαρίτο, κ. Μίνα Παραδεισοπούλου, κ. Πόπη Χαλδαίου, κ. ‘Ελια Κώνστα και κ. Ελένη Κουτσογούλα για την πολύτιμη συμβολή τους !!! Και του χρόνου με υγεία !!!!

Αποκριάτικος Χορός – Πειραιάς Στις 9 και 10 Μαρτίου 2016 οι μαθητές του σχολείου της Καραϊσκου έβαλαν τα αποκριάτικα κουστούμια τους και πήραν μέρος στον αποκριάτικο χορό. Η όμορφη διακόσμηση της αίθουσας, η μουσική σε ρυθμούς καρναβαλιού και ο πλούσιος μπουφές δημιούργησαν την πιο κεφάτη ατμόσφαιρα. Η γιορτή τελείωσε με την βράβευση των καλύτερων αμφιέσεων πράγμα ιδιαίτερα δύσκολο, μιας και τα κουστούμια όλων των μαθητών ήταν πραγματικά πετυχημένα. Όσο για το έπαθλο, τι καλύτερο από Αγγλικά Readers για τα αντίστοιχα επίπεδα.

ΣΕΜΙΝΑΡΙΑ Professional Practices for English Language Teaching

Chrysa Arvaniti fully participated in “Professional Practices for English Language Teaching” which took place over six weeks in September and October 2015.

This free online course was for English language teachers around the world. It helped them develop the skills and practices they need for their continuing professional development (CPD). Weekly topics included lesson planning, classroom management, classroom resources and continuing professional development.

The course drew on the British Council’s many years of expertise in teacher training and development around the world.

--------------On 4 October 2015 our teachers Mrs Aleka Kotopouli, Mrs Stella Lemoni, Mrs Popie Haldeou, Mrs Elia Konsta, Mrs Mina Paradisopoulou, Mrs Mary Rigopoulou, Mrs Georgia Voutos, Mrs Dina Lampara, Mr John Haritos attended a most interesting seminar organised by the British Council entitled "What makes good teaching", "Teaching Citizenship" & "Hints and Tips on IELTS Writing - Academic Module". The seminar was led

by Mr. Cliff Parry, the British Council Academic Manager.

--------------Reading Seminar Mrs. Olga Leontaris of Cambridge English will be at the Nikea School this coming Friday 24 April 2015 at 10:30 am. The seminar’s aim is to present and discuss ways to improve our learners’ reading skills.

‘WEBKIDS’ Burlington Book Presentation On Monday 11th May 2015, the Burlington Books representatives Ms Sophia Goundi and Mr. Manos Trivoulidis visited our school in order to present Burlington’s latest publications.

Our coordinators Ms Anna Fritzela and Ms Stella Lemoni along with our schools’ directors Ms Ino Panayotou and Mrs Diana Papaeliou had the chance to be exposed to the latest trends in book design and skills teaching.

--------------On Tuesday 19th May 2015, Mr. Francis Baker of Macmillan and Mr. Malcolm Mann, teacher trainer and author, came to our school and presented 2 very information seminars on ‘Encouraging Teenagers to Study outside the Classroom’ and ‘Developing Language and Exam Skills’.

24 April 2015: Olga Leontaris of Cambridge English came to our Nikea School and presented ways on how to help our learners become better readers in order to deal with the Cambridge Exams.

---------------------On Sunday 26th April 2015, our Cambridge Proficiency candidates and their teacher, Mrs Labrou, attended a talk on the do's and don'ts of the Cambridge Proficiency Papers. The tips were useful and our students said they were already aware of the advice given, which means we must be doing something right!!!! All I can say to our devoted students is make us proud and break a leg!!!

This academic year our school is incorporating the online test “Aptis for Teens� in its D class exam curriculum.

So, on Thursday 3rd December 2015, C and D class teachers, as well as the school directors, attended a workshop which introduced them to this new skills-based assessment. During the session the teachers had the chance to learn about the exam and do parts of the test on line.

Κύριος εισηγητής της ενημέρωσης ήταν ο κος Johannes Gerbes από τον Εξεταστικό Τομέα της Κεντρικής Διεύθυνσης του GoetheInstitut στο Μόναχο. Seminar Cliff Parry Στα πλαίσια της αποκλειστικής συνεργασίας του φροντιστηρίου μας με το British Council ως Advantage Member, οι υποψήφιοι για τις εξετάσεις του Cambridge: First for Schools είχαν την δυνατότητα να παρακολουθήσουν ενημερωτικό σεμινάριο με τον Cliff Parry Interview Tips for Cambridge English: First for Schools (FCEfS) την Παρασκευή, 15 Μαΐου 2015, στο σχολείο της Ελ. Βενιζέλου 35. Στο σεμινάριο δόθηκαν στους υποψήφιους, με τον ξεχωριστό τρόπο του κου Cliff Parry, πρακτικές συμβουλές ώστε να αισθάνονται πιο σίγουροι την ημέρα των εξετάσεων καθώς και περαιτέρω συμβουλές για το πώς να αντιμετωπίσουν τα διάφορα στάδια του Speaking.

Mon ordinateur est super ! Je le partage avec ma mère. Chaque jour, je passe sur l’ordi plus de deux heures. D’abord je l’utilise pour aller sur internet et ensuite pour jouer à des jeux vidéo.

J’aime communiquer avec mes copains sur Internet, trouver des informations, écouter de la musique, envoyer et recevoir des mails.

Quelquefois je télécharge aussi de la musique. Pour toutes ces raisons, j’adore mon ordinateur !

Coucou Marie, Je viens de rentrer de mes vacances et je suis vraiment très contente ! Elles étaient incroyables ! Ma famille et moi sommes allés à Zakynthos, une île grecque très connue de ses plages. D’abord, on a nagé au bord de la mer et à la piscine de l’hôtel et on a joué au beach-volley. Ensuite, on a visité les curiosités de l’île qui étaient impressionnantes et enfin on a goûté à toutes les spécialités. Malheureusement, il a fallu retourner et rentrer à l’école demain.

Salut Nikos, J’écris cette lettre pour t’inviter à Paris passer une semaine chez moi pendant les vacances de printemps ! Si tu viens, on va aller au concert de Thomas Dutronc le 17 avril. On va passer des moments inoubliables parce qu’il est mon chanteur préféré ! Et puis, on peut faire du skate dans l’espace glisse. Ça te dirait ? On pourrait aller aussi au cinéma et voir le nouveau film du Petit Nicolas ? Ça me ferait vraiment plaisir ! C’est une bonne occasion de passer quelques jours ensemble et il y a plein de choses à faire. Dis-moi si tu viens !

Cours B1

Georgina SAÏTI, Cours B1 Mon groupe préféré

5 seconds of summer c’est un groupe australien de genre Pop-rock. Il est composé de Luke qui joue de la guitare et qui est aussi le chanteur principal, de Calum le bassiste, de Michael le guitariste et de Hushton le batteur. Luke a commencé à poster ses vidéos sur youtube en reprenant des chansons telles que Jersey de May day parade.

Voyant que Michael était passionné par la musique rock, il a décidé de faire 60

des vidéos avec lui. Le 3 décembre 2011, le groupe a pris sa forme actuelle avec ses 4 membres. Il deviendrait par la suite célèbre dans le monde entier avec des millions de disques vendus. Jusqu’à présent, il a sorti trois albums et il a reçu un grand nombre de récompenses. C’est Michael qui a trouvé le nom « 5 seconds of summer » en 2011 pendant un cours de maths.

Toutefois, il pensait que le groupe était encore incomplet. Donc, il a cherché sur Facebook et il y a repéré Ashton qui deviendrait par la suite le batteur du groupe.

En ce qui me concerne, j’adore ces artistes parce que grâce à eux, j’ai compris que c’est mieux d’être différent, unique voire un peu bizarre que d’être une personne superficielle et pareille à toutes les autres. Avec leurs paroles et leur musique, ils m’ont aidée dans tous les moments difficiles de ma vie. J’aime leurs chansons et je les trouve très intéressantes parce qu’elles sont intimes, directement inspirées par des souvenirs douloureux et des moments difficiles qui ont marqué la vie des 4 membres du groupe. Elles sont émouvantes et leur sens est vraiment profond.

Bref, ces jeunes artistes sont la raison pour laquelle j’ai commencé à écouter du rock et à être plus indépendante dans ma vie. J’ai grandi avec eux au fil temps. Malheureusement, je n’ai assisté à aucun de leurs concerts, mais j’espère avoir bientôt l’occasion de le faire.

Anastasie TSACHLI, Cours B1 Un concert inoubliable

Il y a six mois, j’ai assisté à une manifestation artistique qui étaitun véritable tremplin pour des jeunes artistes en raison de la participation de nombreux chanteurs. Il se déroulait sur plusieurs jours au stade olympique d’Athènes, mais moi, je n’y ai assisté que jusqu’au deuxième jour où ma chanteuse préférée, Zaz, devait se produire.

Le concert avait une forte fréquentation et l’ambiance était conviviale. C’était comme une grande fête ! Heureusement, le festival était organisé en été dans un stade en plein air et nous pouvions ainsi jouir de l’ambiance. Quand le festival a commencé, des danseurs ont apparu sur la scène du stade.

Ensuite, un groupe a pris le relais pour jouer de la musique rock. Les lumières étaient impressionnantes ; il y avait des lasers et des lumières de toutes les 61

couleurs. Enfin, Zaz est montée sur scène. Quand elle est sortie, tous les spectateurs ont commencé à applaudir sans cesse. Elle a interprété tous ses tubes d’une manière unique, vu qu’elle a une voix chaude et très puissante.

En ce qui me concerne, j’ai dansé et chanté pendant toute la soirée, car je connaissais par cœur tous ses morceaux. On a vécu des instants divins !

Tout compte fait, les artistes ont mis le feu au festival et bien évidemment, j’ai été très heureuse de voir ma chanteuse préférée en live. J’espère qu’il y aura une réédition du concert cet été.

Foivos Pantelis, Cours B2 Aujourd’hui un homme ne peut pas vivre loin de la nature pour de nombreuses raisons. Il est très difficile pour quelqu’un de réussir dans sa vie près de la nature.

D’abord, les individus ne peuvent pas vivre près de la nature parce que dans les villes on a tout ce qu’on a besoin pour vivre. C'est-à-dire on a toutes les facilités nécessaires. En pleine nature l’homme s’ennuie au bout de quelques instants. Il n’y a pas grandes choses à faire. En plus, la vie est beaucoup plus difficile parce qu’on fait tout à la main. De même, il n’y a pas d’hôpitaux et par conséquent les malades doivent se déplacer en ville quand ils tombent malades.

Pour toutes ses raisons l’homme ne peut pas vivre en pleine nature sans les facilites de notre société civilisée.

Kentro Loukas, Cours B2 Pensez –vous qu’aujourd’hui nous serions capables de vivre en pleine nature sans les facilités de notre monde civilisé ?

De nos jours, la vie a complètement changé. La question qui se pose est si on peut vivre en harmonie avec la nature ou la ville et le progrès technologique nous a transformés ?

D’une part, on est habitués à vivre en ville avec des facilités technologiques. En ville, on utilise toutes les facilités comme le téléphone portable pour communiquer, l’internet et la télé pour s’amuser, les transports en commun pour se déplacer, la musique pour s’amuser et se reposer, les manifestations culturelles pour se divertir. Au contraire, la nature est ennuyeuse après quelques heures car il n’y a pas trop de choses à faire.

D’autre part, on a besoin de la nature parce qu’elle nous aide à nous échapper de la vie quotidienne et c’est très essentiel de s’évader de quatre murs qui nous entourent. En plus, en pleine nature, on peut faire de la marche, se baigner à la mer, respiré de l’air pur. Enfin, on retrouve nos racines et on se sent appartenir à un coin de terre.

Pour conclure, les facilités que la technologie nous offre sont utiles mais la nature est vitale pour l’être humain.

Skiadaressi Hélène, Cours C2 Un prof défend le métier de l’enseignant qui est aujourd’hui dévalorisé De nos jours, le métier de l’enseignant, en tant qu’acteur du système éducatif, est vraiment très compliqué et difficile à définir. Comme professeur d’histoire, j’essaierai de défendre le travail de tous mes collègues en présentant les missions diverses du prof contemporain, que la plupart du monde ignore, étant donné que la majorité des parents considèrent qu’il s’agit d’un métier facile et très bien rémunéré.

Les tâches accordées aux enseignants aujourd’hui sont multiples. Tout d’abord, on commence cette grande liste avec la formation continue qui est primordiale pour un bon professeur qui respecte son métier. Le métier du prof évolue et lui, il est obligé d’actualiser ses connaissances tout au long de sa carrière. De surcroît, instruire les jeunes et leur transmettre nos connaissances constituent les tâches les plus complexes. L’enseignant est contraint d’enseigner un public jeune et la plupart des fois incapables de se concentrer en classe. Il faut donc qu’il trouve les moyens de les intéresser et éveiller leur curiosité. En effet, les cours sont devenus plus interactifs et grâce aux nouvelles technologies avec lesquelles les enfants sont plus familiarisés, ils sont plus intéressants.

En outre, le développement des capacités de compréhension, d’expression et de communication n’est pas la seule préoccupation d’un bon prof. Le développement d’une personnalité solide et ferme est une mission essentielle car le prof aide les élèves à devenir autonomes en leur inculquant des valeurs importantes. Il aide aussi les élèves à développer leur esprit critique ainsi que le sens de l’écoute et de la responsabilité. De même, on ne doit pas oublier de se référer à la gestion de l’hétérogénéité des élèves. Les enseignantes et les enseignants jouent un rôle de premier plan en ce qui a trait à la promotion du respect de la diversité culturelle de leur classe et y créent une atmosphère chaleureuse qui valorise tous les élèves.

En continuant la liste exhaustive des tâches des enseignants, il ne faut pas oublier la partie de l’évaluation et de la notation de leurs élèves. C’est un travail vraiment pénible qui nécessite une analyse constante des résultats des élèves. Dans ce cas, l’enseignant doit utiliser la réflexion, l'observation et diverses méthodes d'évaluation pour cerner les besoins d'apprentissage de chaque élève et lui fournir un enseignement adapté. A des maintes occasions, les parents se trouvent confrontés aux profs puisqu’ils savent combien les appréciations et les notes attribuées par les enseignants sont déterminantes pour l’avenir de leurs enfants.

Pour conclure, la mission du professeur comme on l’a décrite ne laisse pas les parents en dehors du processus éducatif mais au contraire, nous, les profs, croyons que la communication doit dès lors être fondée sur le respect de l’autre et la confiance mutuelle, car la réussite des enfants est notre 64

préoccupation majeure. Le prof est celui qui permet aux parents de comprendre ce qui se passe à l’école, alors une attitude méfiante vis-à-vis des enseignants est totalement inexcusable. Les enseignants ne sont pas là pour tyranniser les enfants mais au contraire, ils veulent assister les enfants et les orienter.

Carta de Vasia Kaloudi Querido Ricardo: Me llamo Vasia Kaloudi y tengo 19 años. Vivo en El Pireo y soy estudiante de la Universidad de El Pireo. El Pireo es el puerto más grande de Grecia. Hay muchos habitantes y la gente es simpática. Hay varios bares y restaurantes interesantes al lado de la costa de donde la vista es impresionante.

Desafortunadamente, el problema de tráfico y de contaminación es enorme.

En El Pireo hay iglesias y museos interesantes. Aquí está también la Universidad donde voy. Para ir a la Universidad hay que seguir por la avenida Labraki y girar a la derecha en la calle Karaolí Dimitríou. Después hay que seguir todo recto y la Universidad está en la segunda esquina.

Me levanto a las seis y media. Me lavo y me visto. Después preparo el desayuno para mi hijo y para mí. Mi hijo se levanta a las sieta y diez.

Desayunamos y nos vamos a la escuela y al trabajo.

Voy a mi trabajo en moto. Antes de comenzar, preparo un café y leo mi correspondencia del día: correos electrónicos y todos los mensajes de mi teléfono. Mi día se ha organizado desde el día anterior, por lo que comienzo a trabajar inmediatamente hasta las dos de la tarde.

A las dos preparo otro café y tomo mi merienda. Después continúo mi trabajo hasta las cuatro. Antes de irme organizo mi día próximo e informo a mi jefe.

Tres veces a la semana tengo encuentros con otros compañeros para hablar de varios problemas. Generalmente voy a casa a las cinco y tomo mi almuerzo. Preparo la comida para el día siguiente y después leo un libro o estudio español.

Ayudo a mi hijo a hacer sus tareas y después voy al gimnasio. ¡Me acuesto a las diez todas las noches!

Si queréis pasarlo muy bien en un lugar ideal este invierno, id sin pensarlo nada a Méchovo. Es un lugar fantástico. Allí encontraréis todo lo que necesitáis para pasarlo perfecto.

Es una excursión ideal para toda la familia y mucho mejor para las parejas.¡ Si hay nieve la vista es increíble! En todas partes hay muchos hoteles, unos lujosos y otros con precios más bajos. Tiendas con productos tradicionales donde podéis comprar cosas para regalarlas. ¡En el centro hay de todo!

Podéis tomar un café viendo la montaña Ólimpos, podéis comer o beber bebidas hasta el próximo día. Muy cerca hay una estación de esquí para esquiar y mucho mucho más.

En todos los aspectos de nuestra vida tratamos de disfrutar lo más que podemos de nuestros recursos, de las otras personas, de todo. Eso se observa más cuando hablamos del campo laboral. Las empresas, los jefes y ejecutivos buscan continuamente maneras para aumentar la productividad de los empleados, es decir, aprovechar a lo máximo su trabajo. Últimamente entonces, ha aparecido un nuevo dilema. ¿Qué es mejor, trabajar solo o en equipo?

Un trabajo individual significa que todas las decisiones se toman de una persona. Eso puede ser beneficioso ya que no hay retraso en desacuerdos y discusiones desmesuradas como se podría observar en los equipos laborales.

Por otra parte, una decisión individual en más probable que sea errónea ya que no se ha analizado tanto como si fuera trabajando en equipo. Cuando hay muchas opiniones diferentes es más probable que la decisión tomada sea más lógica y correcta.

Respecto al trabajo en equipo, lo que más aumenta la productividad es la motivación. Con la colaboración, uno puede sentirse más determinado a esforzarse más para lograr la meta del equipo y para mejorarse a si mismo.

El problema aparece cuando la motivación se convierte en antogonismo. En ese momento, la comunicación se pierde y los empleados se vuelven ineficientes para el bienestar de la empresa.

Ya hemos hecho un pequeño esfuerzo para analizar ese aspecto del trabajo laboral. Vemos que ambas maneras de trabajar, en equipo o solo, tienen tantas ventajas como inconvenientes. ¿Qué hay que hacer entonces?

Lo que se infiere es que finalmente, el estilo de trabajar más productivamente, depende mucho de la personalidad de cada uno y del tipo de trabajo. Diferentes proyectos con empleados diferentes, necesitan diferentes estilos de trabajo también. Está en la responsabilidad de los administradores encontrar y aplicar las normas de trabajo que favorezcan más su ambiente laboral.

Aus dem vorliegenden Artikel geht hervor, dass die Zahl der Menschen, die Esperanto sprechen erhöht wird,weshalb ich ihnen auch schreibe. Ich war im Allgemein überrascht, als ich die Meldung las.

Heutzutage ist Esperanto eine der ausserordentlichen erheblichen Sprachen,weil es die gegenwärtige Fremdsprache entwickelt hat. Der Wortschatz und die Grammatik aller internationalen Sprachen sind eine Entwicklung der Esperanto.Deshabl ist die Sprache auch lebhalft und Menschen bemühen sich ihre Existenz zu halten.

Ich bin der Ansicht, dass die Menschheit eine internationale Sprache kennenlernen soll. Einerseits ist es notwedig, weil immer mehr menschen weltweite Reise machen können ohne Kommunikationsprobleme.Es ist 76

darüber hinaus wichtig, dass alle Staaten nicht isoliert und vereinsamt von anderen Ländern werden.

Sowohl in Griechenland als auch in allen Eu-Länder herrscht die gleiche Situation. Seit kleinem Alter sollen kinder zwei oder zumindest eine Fremdsprache lernen.Die Erwachsenen unterstützen diese Meinung und behaupten, dass die Bildung des Kindes eine grosse Rolle spielt. Deswegen verschwenden Eltern viel Geld für diesen Bedurfnis und sie kümmern sich um die Ausbildung ihre Kinder.

Fremdsprachen sind ein Mittel um die internationale Volkverständigung zu verbessern aber dennoch unser Staat soll auch weitere Massnahmen ergreifen um diese Aktion zu unterstützen. Gesellschaftliche Programme konnen auch gefördert werden, um uns mit den anderen Landern zu verbinden.

Ich hoffe mit meinem Brief dazu beigetragen zu haben, so dass Sie auch in der Zukunft über dieses Thema berichten wird. Abschliessend möchte ich noch einmal erwähnen, dass alle Fremdsprachen offenbar wichtig sind und eine internationale Sprache soll unbedingt existieren.

Dennoch ist es seine Tatsache, dass die Mehrheit der Fahrrradfahrer kein Helm zu tragen bevorzugen.

Es ist zweifellos unterstützt, dass Helme nicht so beliebt sind, weil sie vor allem nicht gut aussehen. Viele Fahrradfahrer fühlen sich attraktiver, wenn sie Risiken ubernehmen. Solches Verhalten gilt meistens fur die Jugendliche, die eine schöner Eindruck auf den gleichartrigen Freunden schaffen mochten.

Ausserdem gibt es auch die Ansicht, dass Helme unkomfortabel sind, da sie viel Druck auf den Kopf üben und Heizung entstehen.

Was meine Heimat angeht, sind die Fahrradfahrer sehr unvorsichtig und achten nicht auf die Verkehrsrregeln. Es kommt zur Folge, dass ein Verkehrschaos herrscht, um einige Beispiele zu nennen. Sie komsumieren viel Alkohol, bevor zu fahren und versursachen viele tägliche Unfälle.

Allerdings, ist es akzeptiert, dass es in Griechenland keine geeignete Strassen gebaut sind. Im Gegensatz zum Ausland ist der Strassenverkehr mehr geschützt und kontrolliert.

Das Beste ware, wenn der Staat Massnahmen ergreifen wurde, damit die Situation den Fahrradfahrer konfrontiert wird. Vielleicht sollten die Strafe der Täter stärker werden, damit immer weniger Leuten ohne Helme fahren.

Zusätzlich sollen die Fahrer selbst die Gefahre anerkennen und ihr Leben respektieren.

Meiner Űberzeugung nach, werden viele Menschen durch die Őkologie motivieren, damit sie richtig Fahrradfahren. Reklame können zeigen, dass solche Verkehrsmittel ökonomischer und umweltfreundlicher als die Autos sind.

Abschliessend scheint mir, dass alle Leute die Verantwortung selbst tragen sollen und sie mussen die Gefahre nicht vernachlässigen ohne Helme zu fahren. Es ist wirklich, dass die Unfälle heutzutage zahlreich sind. Ich hoffe mit meinem Brief dazubeigetragen zu haben, dass sie auch in der Zukunft über ähnliche Probleme berichten.

Konstantinos Kalaidopoulos, Pr2.1 Hello. My name is Konstantinos and I am thirteen years old. My favourite island is Salamina. It is in the Saronic Gulf and it is neither big nor small.

It is a fantastic place to go on holidays to. The sea is blue and very beautiful.

The beaches are quiet and the waters can be deep or shallow. The sand is usually brown and there are a lot of big rocks. You can also find pebbles and shells on the beach. In the sea, there are crabs and starfish and you can find octopuses and different kinds of other fish. The island has also got horses and donkeys, too.

If you visit Salamina, you can go swimming or fishing and you can go to restaurants to eat. You can see high mountains, lots of trees and flowers.

There are lots of cars and bikes on the road and the houses are sometimes big or small. Some of them are white or blue and they have got pretty gardens. The people on this island are kind and hospitable.

We swim in the sea and play volleyball at his house.I always try to beat him, of course! Giannis is a very polite and friendly boy but sometimes he can be a little devil. He teases me a lot so when we are on the beach, I try to throw him into the water. He doesn’t find it funny but I laugh. I also kick our ball into the sea and he tries to catch it. We really enjoy playing on the sand and in the cold water of the sea.

As for his hobbies, he is interested in football and basketball. He is good at riding his bike and he swims very well. He finds PE interesting and he loves Maths and English. But I think he likes drawing and singing more. He also likes to create tattoos with dragons.

Giannis is my best friend because I love playing with him. When we go to his house we play in the garden, do tricks, drink orange juice, watch TV and listen to songs. I think he is the nicest and funniest person in the world!

Quest story Anna Leo Ben and Aunt Beth's magic book Last summer Anna and Leo were at aunt Beth's house. Ben joined them. Aunt Beth had a magic book and she had a big old house. The kids met in the garden. Leo showed them a photo of aunt Beth's study. They went there and they saw aunt Beth's photos in the jungle and Egypt. They found a book. They opened it and a strange light came out and they stepped into another world.

In this world the kids saw many trees, mountains and a river. Leo looked at the book and saw that it had a photo of that place. Anna found a very big egg so she was excited. Leo took a photo of her with his mobile phone. Leo saw a very big footprint and they heard a horrible noise. It was a dinosaur. The kids ran very fast and Leo opened the book again.

The children saw a green dinosaur in the river. It was very big and it had a long neck. The two dinosaurs fought and Leo opened the book again. They arrived at aunt Beth's study. She was very angry because she wanted the book. Anna remembered she had the egg with her. The kids fought and the egg and the book fell down.

The kids arrived in a strange new world. There were horses with wings so they could fly. There were birds that looked like fish with wings. There was a man, he was called Jack Dark. There was a monster behind him. Anna rode a horse and rescued Jack. Jack took the book and opened it. So he disappeared with it. The children were in big trouble and the monster was near them.

Final exams in Composition Topic: “I had a dream last night”

I had a weird dream last night. In my dream, I was a knight in a kingdom with many other knights. I was more trained than them and so I was their leader.

One day, a group of dragons attacked the village. They totally destroyed it and they captured the queen. The king was very angry. He sent us to the dragons’ place to save the queen, and then, to kill them all. The road was very long, but when we arrived, they weren’t there!

They were very clever, but when I understood what was going on, it was too late! All the knights fell down dead. Only I survived. I was sad because they were my friends. I quickly jumped on a dragon and I rode it! I got to the place where the queen was and then….

And then my mum woke me up. I was sad because I didn’t have time to fee the queen but I felt happy because I finally finished my quest.

A day I will never forget My name is John Chatziklimanoglou. I was nine years old when an earthquake destroyed my village. Here is my story about a day I will never forget.

I was sitting in a restaurant with my family. It was a lovely day and the sun was shining. In the restaurant, my dad was watching TV, when it switched off.

There was no power in the restaurant.

At that moment, things started falling and we felt the huge earthquake. We ran and went out of the restaurant. I was in a state of panic when I realized that I had lost my family.

I felt very, very scared. Unfortunately, the survivors were only few. I decided to go back and search for my family. When I went back I saw the village.

There was only rubble.

Fortunately, I found my family in the church yard which wasn't destroyed during the earthquake. It was a terrible experience but my family and I were safe!

A special person in my life When my teacher asked me to write about someone I know, I immediately thought of my great aunt Despina. She is my grandfather’s sister. She is tall, fat and she is in her late eighties. She has short brown hair and beautiful eyes. I admire her because she lived and grew up during the Second World War. She is always cheerful and polite. When I visit her she tells me great stories for herself, when she was young. She offers me sweets. I to go her bedroom and read books. Although she is old, she is adventurous, she likes travelling to different places. She was a clothes designer.

When she was young her name then was Despina Myrgiali, but she became Mrs. Rally when she got married in 1950. I never knew my great uncle because he died before I was born. My aunt has a daughter called Efi, who is an artist.

She likes cooking but she mostly likes baking cakes. She sews dresses for me. Sometimes we got to the theatre together.

Jim Katsoulis, B2 Nikea A disaster story There was an earthquake in China some years ago. It was terrifying. Some kids were at school and they were taking a maths exam.

While they were writing, they felt the earthquake. They were all frightened but one of the kids got the others out of the building. Some of his classmates were still inside the classroom so he used a rope to get them out. They were all so happy that they were rescued.

Luckily, nobody got hurt. The parents congratulated the brave kid who had saved their children and he was so proud of himself. His own parents also congratulated him and gave him a very cool present for his brave behavior.

I remember a month ago, my family and I were at a restaurant celebrating my sister’s birthday.The restaurant was cozy with a modern decoration and a wooden roof.

We all agreed that it was beautiful. While we were eating, something terrible happened. We all started moving. The ground was moving and the buildings were moving too. We ran out of the restaurant. We could hear babies crying and we could see people running.

I was overcome with fear. I also wanted to cry because I felt so helpless and miserable. I think I will never forget this earthquake as long as I live. After a few minutes the earthquake stopped. We saw the nice wooden roof of the restaurant lying on the ground. There were broken glasses everywhere, but I was glad nobody was hurt.

I felt relieved because I was safe again with my family.

B- C Accelerated Class Description of a place Chios - Greece Chios is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. It's got lots of beaches, mountains, areas to explore and historical places like medieval castles and houses.

Chios is in north-east Aegean Sea, really close to Turkey which can be seen from the eastern side of the island. In this area, there is a beach called Kartas.

It's a beautiful beach full of sand. The sea is shallow for about a hundred metres, and after it gets deeper. Kartas is so close to Turkey, less than a mile away, that people can go across in a small boat.

There are old windmills in Chios that people use to make flour. You can't go inside because they are very old buildings but they are very interesting when you go sightseeing. There are also medieval castles in a really good condition. You can go inside, explore, take photos and after that eat at a minirestaurant nearby.

Chios is a great place for doing many different activities, such as trekking on the mountains, visiting the sights, eating seafood or many other traditional recipes for all tastes. Tourists can also go fishing and take some time to tour the villages.

I think Chios is a really beautiful island that deserves to be visited.

Letter to a friend Hi Niovi, How are you? I miss you, but anyway! England is beautiful! I'm writing to tell you about a very strange day I had at my new school the other day.

Well, first of all I met two people, Mari and Adrien. They are nice and friendly.

They fight a lot because they are twins but it's kind of funny to watch them fight. Their parents are from France but they were born in England.

When I got into class the other day I met my new teacher, Miss Chloe and she told me to introduce myself. After the break our teacher had to leave because something had happened to her daughter. Mari and I went to another class secretly, to get Mari's books. Then we ran back to our class and we saw Adrien and his friend, Kim playing Ouija Board or spirit board. We wanted to play and they told us to wait until they get bored. They asked the spirit its 117

name and it answered "Kate". We were amazed and Kim got scared so asked the spirit to leave. It said "No" and started moving around like crazy. Adrien was barely touching it! Then Mari and I broke the board. All the class was shocked and afraid that someone would get possessed by the evil spirit. The principal heard the screaming and got into the class. We explained what had happened and Adrien, Mari, Kim and I are now grounded for a week. Oh well, at least everyone was okay!

Hi Niko, How are things? I hope everything is fine. I am writing to tell you something odd that happened to me while I was returning from school today. You won’t believe it.

While I was walking, I saw a small thing in the middle of the street. In the beginning I thought that it was a rat because it had a piece of fur on it but it didn’t have a tail.

When I got closer, I realized that it was a wallet .I opened it and I saw two hundred euros in it. At first, I thought I could keep the money but at the same time I realized that it wasn’t mine and it wasn’t right to keep it, so I went to the nearest police station.

Luckily, there was an identity card in the wallet and the police officers called the owner. She was an old lady, who was very upset because she wanted to buy presents for her grandchildren with that money. When I gave her the wallet she became very happy and she gave me 20 Euros. I was happy, because I did the right thing and I earned 20 Euros.

Anyway, I have to go now. I have to study for my Christmas homework.

The Park Not a long time ago, Henry was walking in the park, near his house, when he suddenly saw a newspaper. He picked it up, and while reading it, he noticed that it had the next day’s date written on it.

He quickly turned the page and read the winning lottery numbers, thinking he had nothing to lose! He played the numbers, curious to see what would happen…The next day, he watched the announcement of the lottery winners and to his surprise, he had won! He was rich now!

A week later, Henry decided to take another walk in the park which, by that time, he had already bought. Another newspaper was lying on a bench, this one announcing his murder in the park… He was so scared, that he left and went to a cafeteria thinking he would be safe, when, all of a sudden, thieves entered and shot him.

As he was lying on the floor, Henry saw the big sign on the door of the coffee shop. It was called “The Park”…

Fellouzi Maria, C1 – poem A Film Review The film “The boy with the cuckoo-clock heart” is a love story. It is about a boy with a heart of a cuckoo-clock who breaks three important rules in his life.

The boy’s name is Jack and he was born in Edinburgh on the coldest day of winter, so his heart froze and would not beat!! The midwife who helped Jack’s mum to give birth to him sees the frozen heart and decides to replace it with a cuckoo-clock in order to save the boy’s life. His mum abandons him and Madeleine, the midwife, loves him and brings him up. When Jack grows up, she asks him to obey three rules so that the cuckoo-clock works forever. The first one is never to touch the hands of the clock. The second rule is never to lose his temper and the third one is never to fall in love.

One day, Jack meets a girl named Acacia and falls in love with her. He wants to see her every day so he goes to the same school she goes to. On the first day, he starts a fight with a boy named Joe and hits him in the eye with his clock, so he breaks the first rule and the cuckoo of Jack’s clock heart gouges.

Jack thinks he has murdered Joe, so Madeleine, helps him escape and go to the nearest town. Jack meets Acacia there and finds her singing in a pub.

They fall in love with each other and do amazing things. Jack gives her the key to his heart. One day, Joe the bully appears and bothers Jack and takes Acacia with him. Jack’s heart is ready to explode. He is very upset and also realizes that Acacia has taken the cuckoo-clock key!! A few days later, Jack finds out that Madeleine is dead and goes to the cemetery to visit her grave.

He starts crying when suddenly Acacia appears in front of him. They both cry and kiss each other. Sadly, the boy breaks the third rule and dies because his heart stops beating and Acacia freezes because he has kissed her! They both go to paradise!!

I think the film is great and I liked the love story of Jack and Acacia. I also like Madeleine because she loved Jack and raised him as her own child. But, I did not like the fact that they both die in the end. I think you should all watch it!!!It is a very beautiful film!!

Love S.O.S Every summer, I go to Aegina. It’s a very beautiful island which attracts many tourists. One day, while I was on holiday, I found an old bottle in the sea.

Inside it there was a message: “My name is Edward Smith. I’m the captain of the Titanic. We had an accident and the ship will soon sink in the Atlantic Ocean, after colliding with an iceberg. Please tell my family that I love them!!!”

I took the bottle and started an investigation! I Googled the captain’s name and I found out that Edward, had had a wife, named Sarah and a daughter, called Helen. Was it possible for me to find his family? My history teacher said that she’d help me. Three weeks later, we found out that his descendants were in Liverpool. We decided to send the bottle to his family, with a message for them: LOVE S.O.S. After a week the phone rang. It was a woman called Anna Smith. She thanked me and said that her grandfather had remained aboard till the very end…

Venus Flytrap

The Venus flytrap, known as dionaea muscipula, is a carnivorous plant that eats insects and spiders. We find it in North and South Carolina, USA. It has special lobes which it opens widely to trap the prey animals. When the insects come in contact with the plant, the flytrap closes its lobes immediately to trap them. It digests the insects within a time span of ten days. Venus flytraps are the most commonly recognized carnivorous plants, and they are frequently sold as houseplants.

A Nightmarish experience Did you ever have a bad experience and you hoped it was only a nightmare?

Here’s a story about a girl who fell asleep on the sofa.

Last summer, Margarita’s parents went to the supermarket and left her alone at home. Unfortunately, Margarita had locked the main door before she decided to watch a film on TV. While she was watching the film, she fell asleep on the sofa. Two hours later, her parents returned home and tried to 125

unlock the door but they couldn’t, because she had left the keys inside the lock.

Her mother became worried and was shocked at the idea of something happening to her daughter. Her father tried to calm her down. Meanwhile, one of the neighbors was passing by and saw Margarita’s parents in shock and decided to help them. He thought of a very good idea. He took a ladder and went to the balcony. Fortunately, a window was open and he climbed into the living room where she was sleeping. Quickly, he unlocked the door and let the parents in.

In the end, Margarita’s parents woke her up and told her what had happened.

She was very upset and she apologized to her parents. She promised never to leave the key behind the door again. It had been a very bad experience for her and she wished that it had been only a dream!

The Dream It was a hot summer night, Helen was sleeping in her room and she was having a nightmare. She was dreaming that a volcano eruption occurred in the town she lived.

The next morning when she woke up, she went to her parents and spoke to them about her dream. Her mother said that dreams are not true and that she shouldn’t take her nightmare seriously.

The following day, on her way to school, she noticed some animals running very quickly and looking very scared, as if they knew something very bad was going to happen. Helen was very afraid and went to the Town Hall to speak to the Mayor about her dream and about the incident she had seen on the way to school. The Mayor believed her and appeared on TV that same day, warning the people to evacuate the town.

The residents became very scared and evacuated the town, but fortunately the eruption never happened. Helen was relieved but she also felt a bit of a fool for causing all this trouble.

A person I admire The person I admire most is my friend Alan. He is amazing and kind with everyone even if some of the others aren’t.

I admire him because he is smart, handsome and a lot more. He is 14 years old and he is in the same class with me. He has helped me a lot with my problems and he is really supportive with everything I decide or choose to do.

He’s always there for me whenever I need him but I’m not the only friend he 127

has and helps in his life. Also, he is very funny because he always makes me laugh even when I’m sad.

He has great influence on me and I hope one day I’ll be as supportive and kind as he is. Since the first time I met him, he has made me a better person by only being my best friend. He thinks that I have a great influence on him too but I’m not sure about that. When we are together we gossip or see comedies on TV, even though he is a comedy by himself. He does silly stuff but that’s what I like about him.

Alan is the most amazing and wonderful person and friend I could ever ask for and I’m glad that I had the chance to meet him.

The phrase “if you fight for freedom, you are already free” is well- known.

Someone could say that it is contradictory because of the fact that fighting for freedom indicates that you are under slavery, so you can’t be free. However, this phrase emphasizes the effort that we put so as to have our freedom. The effort shows our need to be free, to chase our dreams and our beliefs.

If we try and fight for our dreams, it is as if we have already achieved them.

Freedom is something that can never be utterly reached, so even a try or a fight is a step closer to it. The same idea applies in every goal we set during our lives.

Topic 1 Panos is one of my closest friends. I’ve known him since we were at elementary school together.

Panos is hard-working, as he spends hours on his school projects and he always tries to make them better and better. He is also very reliable because he is always there when I need him, especially when it’s an emergency.

Few people are as kind and unselfish as he is. He always puts the needs of other people before his own. He’s got a friendly personality and he is kind and generous.

Because of this, he has many friends of all ages. He is very patient because he is always calm and never gets angry about anything. Besides that, he is a very funny person, because he can make me laugh whenever he wants.

Panos and I have got a lot in common, like doing sports, reading books, going to adventure parks and listening to the same kind of music.

As for myself, Panos has been a huge influence on me. He’s shown me how important it is to help others who are in need. I have learnt that I must never give up, even when I face difficulties. He has also taught me how to be more sociable, how to make new friends and meet other people. Except for this, he taught me how to tell “clever” jokes and have a great sense of humour.

I really like my friend Panos and so does everyone in the school. Nobody has ever had a bad word to say about him. I hope I can gain that kind of respect from people, too.

Topic: People believe that it is absolutely essential for students to learn foreign languages. Do you agree?

It is true that nowdays it is absolutely necessary to learn how to speak a foreign language.

First of all, you have better career prospects. Those with the ability to communicate in another language are more likely to find a job.

Apart from that, another reason why you should learn a foreign language is that it is absolutely essential when you travel. For example, basic conversation skills in a foreign language will help you to order food or drink, find your way around or buy tickets. Also, you can have a conversation with the people you meet, so you can make new friends.

However, learning a foreign language may help you to study at a foreign university. Also, if you want to really discover a new culture, first you have to learn the language spoken in that particular country.

From my point of view, it is very important to start learning a foreign language.

Of course, it isn’t easy but it is very important and also it can be very entertaining and beneficial.

Advantages and disadvantages of team sports Team sports are becoming more and more popular over the years. Many people believe they are a lot of advantages, but some others disagree.

Some people benefit in many ways from doing a team sport. To begin with, team sports help players to communicate, be able to learn things from each other and share the good or bad moments in their games. In addition, it gives them a sense of belonging because a team is like a family to them, they learn to cooperate and work towards a common goal.

However, there are also certain disadvantages involved in team sports.

Firstly, it is sometimes hard for players to work together because they are different personalities and this can affect their performance. As a result, the players may often feel they are under pressure as some of them let others down if they do not perform well.

On the whole, I believe that the advantages are more than the disadvantages.

In my view, team sports should be encouraged among young people, but players should also learn to work together and support each other.

Describe your best friend and write why you admire him The person I admire the most is my best friend Andreas. He is thirteen years old and he is very responsible.

Andreas is the cleverest person I have ever known so far. When I have a question he always has the correct answer to it. Few people are as kind and as hardworking as he is. Another quality that really stands out is his great sense of humour. Whenever we are together, he makes me laugh a lot!

As for myself, Andreas has a huge influence on me. He has shown me how important it is to be calm and to follow my dreams. I think he is the reason why I have decided to become a football coach.

Write about advantages and disadvantages of the use of technology in education The use of technology in education can be really motivating. One of the advantages of using the internet is the easy access to information. There is a huge variety of sources and information for school projects on the internet and it is much easier for teenagers to search for it on line than in books or newspapers. However, teenagers can easily get distracted because they do not only have access to information but to social networks like facebook, so they end up not doing their homework!

Another advantage of technology in education is the e-books. E-books are books in a digital form. They are more convenient and appealing to teenagers.

E-books are also useful because students do not have to carry so many books anymore. Their disadvantage is that they are costly so if you accidentally drop them, they cannot be replaced easily.

Interactive whiteboards are also very helpful. They can be really motivating and teenagers tend to enjoy having lessons with the help of interactive boards. But, just like e-books, they are also costly.

In my opinion, technology offers great help and it can be really motivating in education.

Young people and mobile phones Who could live without a mobile phone nowadays? It has become very hard to imagine life without it, especially if you are a teenager.

To begin with, my friends and I find mobile phones very convenient.

Whenever we are away from home and we need to call our parents we don’t have to go out of our way to find a phone. Therefore, we feel safe that in case of emergency we can always reach each other. Also, we are always able to exchange texts with our friends and keep up with our news or ask any questions about our homework.

Besides all the above benefits of our phones, I think the greatest is the fact that through our mobile, we can connect to the internet and log-in on FB and other social sites. Also, we use our phone for entertainment by downloading games, films, songs or even books. Finally, we use it to take selfies, instead of a camera.

To sum up, I think that most teenagers including myself depend on their mobile phone for all the above uses but mostly for the entertainment it offers.

Our ideal school Nowadays, most Greek schools have a lot of problems and lots of kids do not want to go to school. However, there are some solutions to correct these problems.

First of all, some children are bullied by other stronger kids. Secondly, lots of schools do not have yards or sports facilities so kids do not have a place to relax during their break or after school lessons. In addition a lot of schools do not have central heating and in winter the students feel cold and get sick.

Furthermore, some students spray graffiti on walls with bad language and rude symbols, destroying the school environment. Another problem is students stealing personal things from their classmates.

Although there are lots of problems, there are solutions too. Firstly, the school can ask psychologists to advise students on bullying and how to deal with it.

About graffiti, there should be guards walking around the school keeping an eye on students during breaks and those that are caught should be suspended. All schools must have yards and sports facilities so that children can release their stress. School must also have green spaces to improve the environment. As for central heating, there must be no school without it because students should not miss lessons. Finally, to combat theft, students should be given lockers so that they can keep their things safe.

In conclusion, there are many problems that have to be solved. Only if we make these changes, will our schools be a better place that children will want to go to.

Review of a TV show Akou ti eipan

Akou ti eipan is a highly entertaining program on Alpha channel. It is a quiz and consists of two teams of five participants each. The faster in answering questions team is the winner of the game.

This TV quiz has something for everyone. The members of each team have to guess the most popular answers that people who participated in a survey gave. They have to do this as fast as possible. If they fail to guess correctly the points go to the rival team. There are four rounds and the teams which collect more points passes to the fifth round which is the final one. Two members from the winner team have to answer five questions in 25 seconds.

For every successful answer they earn points. However, they need to collect 200 points in order to win the money prize.

I recommend this program to people of all ages because it is really interesting and exciting. It is a show for those who like quizzes and suspense. Also, it is a program that can be watched by families.

Teen stress – we have to deal with it!

Nowadays, more and more teenagers are getting stressed. Although a little stress can be creative and make them feel alive, too much can be destructive.

Teenagers have to deal with a lot of stressful situations daily. Firstly, some things that teens take too seriously are their exam marks and report cards.

Getting bad marks can make them very anxious. This also happens to teens before sports matches, tournaments and theatre performances because they want to be successful. Another stressful situation is when a teenager wants to ask somebody out on a first date. This is because they care about their appearance and want to make a good first impression. Lastly, going to a new school or moving to a new town can make them anxious because they do not know anyone.

However, there are different ways to deal with the stress teenagers feel. First of all, If they want better marks and report cards, they should do more revision before exams and be better prepared and not be stressed. Moreover, before tournaments, teens should train harder and practise more before performances until they feel confident about themselves. Before going on a date, they must stop their stress by accepting themselves and their 135

appearance so that the others will like them as they are. To deal with a new environment like a school or neighbourhood teenagers must make new friends immediately and be more sociable so that they do not feel lonely.

In conclusion, it is true that many teenagers have problems dealing with their stress so they should follow our advice and these difficult years will soon pass.

I really want to visit popular sights, like the Big Ben, and see new places. We can also visit museums and parks and in our free time, go to the cinema or to a restaurant. As for choosing between a rock concert and a theatre performance, I prefer the rock concert because, as you know, we both like rock music and I’ve heard that a famous rock band will be visiting London these days.

As for food, I really want to taste traditional English dishes and you can tell your mum to make something that you often eat in your country. So, see you there!

The Swan Lake – An exquisite performance Are you still thinking of where to spend your spare time? Well...we have the best idea! If you enjoy watching ballet, then you’re reading the right article.

You must have heard of the well-known performance “The Swan Lake”, by the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, at the Badminton theatre.

“The Swan Lake” is the love story of a young lady that was cursed by an evil sorcerer and turned into a swan. The charming prince goes out to rescue her and falls in love with her.

What made the event really special was the live orchestra that attracted the audience’s attention. However, what we’ll never forget are the very impressive costumes of the dancers. The atmosphere was electric and emotional as the dancers succeeded in conveying a variety of feelings through their movements. The choreography by Yuri Grigorovich was really unique and inspiring, contributing to the amazing success of the show.

All in all, a Bolshoi performance is guaranteed to take everyone’s breath away as it is always of the highest standards, regarding both music and dance.

Don’t miss it when it comes in your area next time!!

The benefits of sports Nowadays, it is very common for young people of all ages to take up different sports ranging from football and basketball to less well-known, but not less important, such as rowing and martial arts. Have you ever thought about the benefits of sports?

To begin with, there are a lot of personal benefits for young people who train regularly. They can improve their self-confidence and become more responsible. Through sports young people are taught not only how to be a part of a team but also to respect everyone including their opponents. In addition sports help you keep fit and healthy and increase stamina.

On the other hand, what the young people can learn from actively participate in a sport is to achieve their goals and never give up despite the difficulties involved. Imagine the feelings of honor and happiness when your team or club wins and the satisfaction of winning a medal and climbing on the top of the podium.

“A sporting event that made a great impression on me” “Ice-Hockey” Have you ever been to an Ice-Hockey match? Well I hadn’t until last winter when I was lucky enough to attend one when I was on holiday in Toronto, Canada. I must say it was one of the most amazing days of my life.

I watched, astonished, as the players seemed to dance on the ice, moving with incredible speed. Even though the temperature at the stadium was below zero, the atmosphere was electric.

But what made such a big impression on me was that the players could iceskate so well that they did not fall on the cold ice. And even if they did fall down or were badly injured, they still managed to continue without complaining or staying out of the game. I was impressed to see that a player, badly injured from an accident, scored the winning point.

All in all, it really was an unforgettable experience. Ice-Hockey is indeed a magnificent sport!

Mountain Biking Riding a bike at the edge of a mountain may sound bizarre but as it turns out, it is one of the most creative sports. Mountain biking can be described as an adventurous sport, which requires physical strength, potential and guts so not everyone can do it. Many mountain biking events take place in Greece and I was very lucky to attend one; the annual Mountain Biking event in mountain Olympos last September.

The event was spectacular. I kept watching the brave athletes riding their bikes over the rough terrain or the mountain. At the end of the event the winner was given a trophy and each of the competitors were awarded personally for participating.

What made an impression on me was the effort the athletes had made to live up to our expectations. Their marvelous performance combined with the magnificent background of the mountain surprised the crowd and left them speechless.

To sum up, it was a memorable experience for me. I really recommend you go and enjoy it next year.

The Problem of War in Syria Syria has been at war for a very long time. This has caused many serious problems, not only to the local people but also to the rest of the world.

People are forced to leave their homes and sometimes even get separated from their families. They move to other countries, seeking some safety, dignity and a brighter future for themselves and their children, all of which we actually take for granted. It is not hard to imagine how these people feel: frightened and desperate at first, unsure of how they will be received in the host countries and above all tired, worn out by the hardships they have encountered and doubtful of their destiny.

There are many things all of us can do to help. What they really want is to be accepted. We can donate food, clothes and medical supplies to the organizations in charge of the refugees. Above all, what we can do is volunteer personally to relieve these people’s fears and give them some hope and optimism, which will help them go on with their lives.

We all wish and hope that these people will eventually manage to get their lives back and forget the horrible impact the war has had on them.

Chatzis Spyros, Fragos Dimitris, Kallinikos Konstantinos, Kanakis Harry, Karageorgiou George, Renieris Marios, Vatistas Anastasis L3 (group A) Chryssia’s 15 minutes of fame On Saturday, February 20th, our classmate Chryssia Koumoutsi participated in an audition at the Pantheon Theatre. She went in for the role of Juliette from Shakespeare’s famous “Romeo and Juliette” which will be on stage next year.

The day began with a warm-up so that all “competitors” would feel at ease and relax. They were then taught a choreography which they had to perform.

One by one the nervous teenage girls (100 in total) acted out the lines they had prepared and danced. Chryssia was the 19th participant, which meant she had some extra time to go over her lines and assess the competition.

She described us her feelings before and after the audition. At the beginning she was feeling afraid and understandably nervous, which was not strange since the atmosphere was rather intense. When she heard her name, she went on stage and she couldn’t even hear her heart beat. But the contributors made her feel comfortable and confident. When she got off the stage she felt relieved it was all over and was looking forward to the announcement of the finalists’ names.

Needless to say, she was selected for the next round, out of all 100 teenagers. We wish her the best of luck and we all hope she will make it eventually and take the part so that we can all enjoy her unique performance on stage next year!!

L3 Playing video games vs. going out with friends Nowadays, it is well known that teenagers spend more time playing computer games instead of going out with their friends. So, the question is: Is it worth playing computer games all day?

On the one hand, those who support video games say that playing computer games help them improve their computer skills which are very important for their future job. They also claim that this is a good way of spending their free time. Furthermore, video games are often used as means of communication, since you need to have reliable teammates.

All in all, from our experience, we think that going out with friends helps you develop your social skills and build real, strong relationships. On the contrary, staying at home and playing computer games helps improve other skills that might not be so useful for their future life.

Some people even claim that they can get over their depression by becoming shopaholics. Moreover, young people, especially girls, want to make some changes to their appearance in order to become more attractive to others.

Other girls want to become fashion icons so they can influence their social circle.

However, they are people who disagree with this point of view. To support their opinion, they claim that teens try to gain popularity by wasting their money on impressive and expensive garments which are created by famous designers. Furthermore, they are changing their style according to what’s in fashion. Another consideration is that they are spending way too much money on unnecessary products instead of purchasing useful ones.

To sum up, in our point of view, young girls do not need trendy and fashionable clothes to impress. Personality and skills are what attracts people to you. Besides, you had better put aside some money for a rainy day.

L4 Parents’ role in choosing a career There is a period in everyone’s life when we must choose our future career.

Most people think that this is terrifying and stressful. However, under the correct guidance it will be much easier to figure out which direction is the most suitable for us.

Guidance may come from different directions. For example, school can help us discover our abilities and extra-curricular activities can help us practice them.

However, help starts in the family. Our parents are the first who encourage us to develop our talents. But this is not always positive. Sometimes parents become very controlling and they want their children to do whatever they consider as right and profit-making without taking into account what their children want to become.

In my opinion, children should take into consideration their parents΄ suggestions but they should be the only ones who eventually decide. To sum up, it is better to do a job that you enjoy rather than do a job that provides us 146

with more money. Last but not least, we should always follow our dreams no matter how hard or stressful it is.

Should people pay to visit a beach?

Nowadays, fee - paying beaches is an issue that concerns many people. Is it fair or not? In my opinion, paying to visit a beach can have many benefits but it is also unacceptable to make people pay for something that should obviously be free.

On the one hand, charging an admission fee in Paradise Beach is a very good idea because the money earned will be used to build facilities such as showers and an area for beach volley. Moreover, people that will keep the place clean and well-organized will be hired.

On the other hand, I think that paying for entering Paradise Beach is a mistake because beaches must be open to the public as they do not belong to anyone. Everybody should have the opportunity to enjoy the sun and the sea without being charged. However, if the admission fee is not low, some local residents will not be able to afford it and this is unfair.

In conclusion, paying for going to a beach is a mixed blessing. The entrance fee helps make the beach better but it is also unfair to pay for something that should be free.

People chat in two different ways. You can chat with someone face to face or online. Some people think that it is better to chat with friends and family face to face but there are others who do not agree with this idea.

On the one hand, chatting online with friends can be very convenient especially when there is no time to meet them. Moreover, it is faster. You can send a message and get the information you want in a few minutes. Also, if someone is shy and doesn’t want other people to see his face, technology can make communication easier.

On the other hand, chatting face to face with your family and friends can establish a good relationship. It is better to meet someone and exchange news rather than talk on the phone or the computer. When you look at 147

someone, you can see their facial expressions and hand movements and understand their emotions better.

In my opinion, chatting face to face gives you the opportunity to understand people better and helps you become sociable.

The Rescue As soon as Tom read the text message he knew that he had to act quickly.

Without wasting any time, he grabbed his bag and ran out of his house.

He had received a message on his cell phone from his friend George. “It’s an emergency, come to my house as fast as you can”. When he arrived there he saw that George’s neighbor’s house was on fire. Only the neighbor’s dog had managed to escape and his barking had woken George up. Tom looked at the house that was burning and told George: “We can’t wait for the fire brigade.

We have to do something”.

Without a second thought both of them ran quickly into the house trying to find all the trapped people. The dog went with them and guided them to the different rooms of the residence. They could not see very clearly because there was too much smoke everywhere but in the end they managed to find all the members of the family and take them out. They were shocked but safe.

The fire fighters arrived a minute later. While they were preparing to extinguish the fire they heard a deafening explosion. Without Tom and George’s help the whole family would have died. Tom was very happy because with the help of the dog he and his friend saved those people.

“Animal Farm” by: G. Orwell Who would have made a better leader, Snowball or Napoleon and why?

In the novel, “Animal Farm”, a conflict between Napoleon and Snowball concerning the leadership of the rebellion arises. While reading the book, we see both of the characters’ personalities being revealed and we start wondering who is more suitable to become the leader of the farm.

As the story unfolds, the animals see Snowball as the smartest pig and the most suitable animal for the position of the leader. But Napoleon is the one who overthrows Snowball when a problem on the farm arises. He blames Snowball for sabotaging the windmill. In this way he ensures that the animals become more dependent on him in their fight against Snowball, their supposed common enemy. Napoleon disobeys the Seven Commandments, and changes them in order to have the freedom to act as he wants. Finally, Napoleon turns into a dictator and the animals are made to work for more than 60 hours a week, otherwise their food rations are reduced. Napoleon turns out to be worse than Jones has ever been. But the animals cannot disobey him, because as we know from the very beginning he took the puppies and trained them to be his security force.

Even though Snowball faced expulsion early in the story, the reader can acknowledge the fact that he cared deeply about the rebellion and wished to be an active member of it. Snowball was a brave and democratic pig who always placed the welfare of his comrades above all. He tried to free the animals from Jones’ slavery without using force. For example he calmly explained to Molly that liberty was worth more than her ribbons. He never lied to the other animals, while Napoleon took complete advantage of them and did not treat them as equals, as the 7th Commandment stated.

To sum up, if Snowball had been given a chance to prove himself to the animals, he would have been a greater leader than Napoleon, and would have stopped him from turning into a ruthless dictator.

“THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A COURSE OF STUDY” For many people choosing a course of study at the university is a difficult decision to make. Few would dispute that someone should choose a course only if the job it leads to is in demand. However, I am of the opinion that there are other factors to consider, the most important of which are the level of competition in the field and whether someone is actually suited for the job.

Pursuing a career in demand doesn’t necessarily mean people will find a job in this field due to fierce competition .Chances are, many people are going to study for the same profession. As a result, the profession will no longer be in demand on account of the fact that the majority of people interested in it will have the same degree and qualifications and the profession will be saturated.

What is more, nowadays, it is difficult to find a job in the field someone has studied. With the existing competition, without connections, the chance of getting the position someone has chosen is slim.

Research has shown that the more someone is suited for the job, the better they perform. In other words, if they like what they do, they will be far more productive and efficient. On the contrary, if someone is not suited to the job and they don’t perform well their job might be on the line since they will not put all their energy in order to succeed. Consequently, they will not be satisfied and content but anxious about losing the job they don’t even like.

Choosing a course of study with a view to landing a job is a somewhat misguided viewpoint. The fierce competition and whether someone is actually cut out for the job are also factors that need to be taken into account. When it comes to our profession we all have to close our eyes, not listen to anyone or anything but only listen to our heart.

Animal Farm Project Synopsis Animals in George Orwell’s Animal Farm cannot tolerate human beings’ tyranny and decide to terminate it with an against all hope rebellion. The revolution is conceived, organized and led by the pigs which are regarded as the brightest amongst all animals on the farm. The sole purpose of all revolutionary acts is animal’s well-being and the maxim that is established reads “Four legs good, two legs bad”. Unfortunately, not a single conquest of 154

authority is free of abuse and pigs are not the exception to the norm. They become tyrants and dictators in their human counterparts’ position demolishing whoever of their comrades dare to voice a dispute or objection. A case in point is Napoleon and Snowball, two pigs who from dear fellows become bitter rivals. The former hooks on power and allows corruption to turn him into a monster. The latter turns with concise procedure by the system from a hero into a traitor and is evicted mercilessly from the farm.

Introductory note The two fictional dialogues that follow happen between Napoleon and Snowball.

The first dialogue is Snowball’s attempt to convince Napoleon of the benefits of building a windmill on the farm. The windmill will produce electric power and symbolize animals’ superiority, independence and dexterity. Also, it will function as the flag of “Animalism”. The signs of corruption are not evident yet in Napoleon’s personality and Snowball, who is a dreamer, is dreaming of realizing his innocent plans for his fellow animals’ good.

N: “Did you ask to see me?”

S: “I did, comrade”.

N: “What for?”

S: “I’ve been reading some books lately and a brilliant idea dawned on me. I think that if we could have electricity on the farm our life would be much easier. Our comrades wouldn’t need to work as hard as they do now and their daily routine would be less exhausting and frustrating”.

N: “What are you talking about Snowball? We have lived without electricity so far and I think we’ve been doing just fine”.

S: “But Napoleon please think! Our comrades do so many laborious tasks every day that in the end of the day they are almost debilitated. How long do you think they can stand this? If we produce electricity on the farm, ploughing, threshing, harvesting and milking will be no burdensome anymore and our comrades will have time to rest and enjoy life”.

N: “Don’t undermine our comrades, Snowball. I’m sure they are strong enough to work as hard as they are doing now for many more years. Of course for the benefit of Animalism”.

S: “And what will this benefit of Animalism mean, when all the animals die from fatigue?"

N: “What are you implying comrade? That my thinking is not focused on our comrades’ well-being anymore?”

S: “How many times have you ploughed the fields or milked the cows, Napoleon? How many times have you watered the orchards or cleaned the sheds? ‘Cause I don’t recall seeing you anywhere among our comrades doing any of these tasks”.

N: “What do you mean? I’m a mind worker and so are you”.

S: “With a small difference comrade. I care and I put myself in their shoes.

When I see them come back from the fields worn-out I wonder whether I’d want this for me. Well, guess what the answer is. It is always NO”.

The second dialogue happens when Snowball returns to the farm after his expulsion in order to have a face to face clash with his old friend and comrade. He knows that he puts his life in danger but he feels that looking Napoleon in the eyes while he himself will be restoring the truth will be the best reward for him.

N: “What are you doing here, Snowball? How dare you come back after having abandoned us in such a hideous way?”

S: “Dear Comrade, save your acting performance for later. You’ll need it when you have to look our brothers in the eyes and tell them the truth. For the time being I’m here to let you know that I’m alive and determined”.

N: “Determined to do what?”

S: “To save animals from a tyrant with animal looks and human manners”.

N: “What are you talking about? I love my brothers and I’m trying to do my best for their own good”.

S: “No, you don’t. You’re doing your best for your own good and you don’t give a damn about them. They mean nothing to you. Where’s the equality and justice you promised? Where’s the care and understanding towards them?

Where’s solidarity? Do you still remember the meaning of these words? I doubt it”.

N: “But look at me, Snowball. I’m still an animal myself. I’m still one of them”.

S: “I’m afraid you’re wrong, dear comrade. Look at yourself in the mirror. You stand on your hind legs”.

Unemployment One of the greatest problems plaguing modern society is that of unemployment. The recent and continuous financial crisis has caused multiple social problems, with the roots of all being relevant to labour and especially unemployment rates. Countless small and medium-sized, but also larger businesses and enterprises were forced to close down leading millions of people to unemployment. This happened in almost every "developed" or "developing" country, as the national borders are no longer a limitation to the globalized economic growth. Now, the question is, should the government take more action to end this phenomenon or let individuals find their own way through the obstacles appearing along?

In the first case, the government's interest should be a complete reformation in how the whole job market of a country operates. This means there will need to be changes in social security systems, as well as measures in the way companies treat their employees such as collective dismissals. Although all these reforms might be effective, there will be disappointment from people and will entail risks.

In my point of view, the best thing a government should do in such times would be lowering taxes for small businesses and people who are unable to pay them, while offering support and give motives to entrepreneurs in order to employ people in need. There could also be some special state benefits and easy access to public healthcare and social services.

On the other hand, an individual may not actually be able to do all that is needed so as to be able to find a job. No matter how many CVs you provide to prospective employers, there is very little chance to ensure a position.

Especially the young or the disabled and people over fifty years old have no hope at all of being hired when more suitable ones are being fired every day.

So, if there is no chance for new businesses to open and grow, there will be no jobs for those seeking one.

Additionally, being on the dole cannot guarantee an income you can rely on for a long time, so in every case, the government should act for the benefit of its citizens.

To sum up, unemployment remains a great headache for many people and governments. As already mentioned an individual is almost unable to help himself find a job under the present circumstances, so it's essential the government take immediate action for its people.

TELEVISION There is no denying that television has developed into a necessary gadget practically found in every single house in the Western world, making it really tough to imagine life without it. Nonetheless, television provides numerous benefits but it also has several drawbacks, some of which should be carefully considered.

To begin with, television can be characterized as a window to the world.

With a touch of a button you are transferred to the other side of the world, catching up on the latest world news, or even "traveling" to places you have never seen before. Another considerable advantage of it is the good company it can keep. Sometimes, when you feel lonely, you have a great time watching your favourite programme or series. Last but not least, it can prove really educational with its variety of documentaries, though the most outstanding part is the range of sitcoms and movies. It doesn't matter how old you are , or what your odd preferences are, you will always find a programme that attracts you, as it has something for everyone!

However, television can be really addictive. The average American child spends three hours in front of it, time wasted from other more important activities. As a consequence sometimes instead of studying, kids tend to watch TV. In addition to that, it can cause serious health problems.

Youngsters who spend a lot of hours watching television have a tendency towards obesity, alienation or eye-diseases. Lastly, as we mentioned before, television offers a range of programmes but that cannot be necessarily regarded as an advantage. Some people claim that if there were fewer shows with higher quality content, it would be really better for society and viewers in general.

All in all, although television has plenty and essential advantages, its drawbacks are even more substantial so they should be carefully considered.

ZOOS: DO ANIMALS BENEFIT OR SUFFER? There are many proponents of zoos who advocate their necessity in the perpetuation and proliferation of the species of a certain animal as well as the invaluable insight they give into their habits and behavior. But does being out of harm’s way mean the animals should be subjected to an inferior quality of life?

Contrary to popular belief, the allegation that animals in zoos have a normal life is far from accurate. It is irrefutable that animals kept in zoos suffer to a great extent. Apparently, a vast majority of them are confined to small cages and are malnourished, which leads to a range of psychological and physical problems such as stress, respiratory and dietary issues, starvation or even death. A clear manifestation of this is Zoochosis, a psychological disease triggered by the prolonged isolation of animals, causing them to experience extreme stress, boredom, distress and unnatural behavior like irritability and aggression. What is more, there is scant evidence that zoos provide visitors with any kind of educational benefit. In particular, since we can’t see animals roaming in their natural habitats and behaving in a normal way, it is absurd to claim that exhibiting these animals can prove beneficial or educational to visitors. Using education as an excuse for callously keeping animals in zoos is rather reprehensible and cannot justify the ruthless cruelty to animals in any way.

On the other hand, it is claimed that zoos can ensure the safety of many endangered species. Admittedly, many animals whose existence is in peril are taken care of by being bred in zoos. What people in zoos do is freeze genetic material, such as sperms and eggs, in order to produce offsprings and ensure the future generation of the species. Undeniably, this practice has prevented many animals from becoming extinct, thus helping in the conservation of the various animal species .Additionally, it is believed that the scientific community could have a chance to study animals in zoos and do some research. However, to my mind, this is a rather tenuous argument. It is blatant that these animals, who live in an artificial environment and are deterred from roaming freely in the wild, suppress their innate behavior and therefore cannot provide scientists with accurate information.

Taking everything into consideration, it is true to say that keeping animals in zoos could be detrimental to their wellbeing due to the pain inflicted on them, while there is no proof of any educational benefit. Although animals on the verge of extinction are utterly protected when being in a zoo, there is no possibility of gaining any scientific insight into the animals’ behavior.

Evidently, there must be a shift in the way animals are treated and energies should be focused on protecting them without infringing upon their rights. After all, they are God’s creatures.

Some people are keen on dangerous sports as they enjoy living on the edge. They have the need for varied, novel sensations and experiences. But are they well informed of the risks and problems these sports involve and are they aware of their responsibilities?

Firstly, the most common danger of extreme sports is a potential of permanent injury or even death. One wrong landing, one wrong twist, a matter of a few inches could mean the difference between life and death. Sadly, some people continue doing these sports without thinking of themselves or their family. In many cases the person’s injury affects the family members as they are obliged to take care of their permanently disabled loved one.

It is mandatory for the person who does dangerous sports to be aware of his responsibilities. Taking precautions is the least he could do. For example, he should have the right equipment, know its use and also maintain or replace it in case of damage. Extreme sports are not for everyone, as it is necessary that the person be physically fit and in peak condition. Even if one is in good shape, he has to undergo training so as to become more skillful and have to some degree technical knowledge and skills.

In conclusion, it is obvious that extreme sports are preferred as they give people the opportunity to feel the adrenaline rush or the feeling of freedom. However, everyone should take on their own personal responsibility and give safety the highest priority.

A growing number of young people are choosing to continue living with their parents even after they have completed their education and are in full- time employment. What benefits and drawbacks can this have for children?

It has currently been reported that more and more young people choose to continue living with their parents during or even after completing their university courses and are in full-time jobs. The reason behind their choice might be justified however it might be an inconvenience.

First of all youngsters choose to live at home with their parents because of the living expenses and all the conveniences provided. For example, there is the rent or the mortgage, the utility bills and the taxes that need to be paid.

Parents will pay for all of this and will continue to do so despite their children having a full time job. In this way young people save their money and spend it on leisure activities. Another benefit is the freshly cooked food and the house chores that are done for you. When you have a full time job, the only thing you think about after a long day’s shift is a home- made meal and rest. So, your parents especially your mom will have accommodated to your needs.

However, living with parents cannot be all that beneficial. One obvious disadvantage is lack of privacy. Everyone desires some personal time and space. Every youngster dreams of living alone, having some private time, and inviting friends over. Living with your parents does not allow you to act freely as there are limits and rules which are set. Another drawback is that young people won’t develop a sense of responsibility and independence. They won’t be in the position to face the hardships or difficulties of life by living behind their parent’s shield and protection.

Living or not under your parent’s roof is an issue that troubles young people. It’s up to each one to decide depending on what he values most.

Bullying ''The Scourge of our modern society'' Bullying in and out of schools, especially through the social media, is spiraling out of control. According to recent statistics one third of teens are bullied at school and 4 percent are reported to also be victims of cyber bullying.

Educators really need to take a stand against bullying. It is also vital that parents be a part of the solution, and not the problem.

First of all, it is very important that educators take precautions and action against bullying in schools. In other words, educators must recognize the signs and take action not only to prevent bullying from spreading but also to approach victims and help them to open and speak up about their problems.

Getting a bullied teenager to trust someone requires a lot of effort and sometimes some special training in order to solve situations like these. There are various methods that educators can use to remedy this upswing in bullying, the most effective of which is attending seminars and workshops to know how to deal with similar situations. Organizing anti-bullying campaigns is also a very effective way to prevent students from becoming bullies themselves, as well as giving victims the knowledge to defend themselves from prospective bullies.

It is one of the sad realities of modern life that kids who act like bullies or are bullied do not get any real help from their parents. This is especially true because teenagers avoid open their hearts to their families and this is when parents have to take action. They have to talk and advise their children and also listen before acting themselves. It is important for them to be there for their children, by teaching them to accept diversity and that in order to be respected among others you have to respect them back. A final solution is to be in control of monitor their social accounts, like facebook and twitter, and teach them how to handle the treacherous world of the Internet.

How healthy is your diet?

I try to follow a healthy diet because I want to be fit, and a healthy diet helps me a lot.

I usually have 3 meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast I have some fruit, a glass of milk and a toast.

For lunch I usually eat spaghetti with vegetables or meat with rice. And for dinner I have a glass of milk with cornflakes. Of course, I eat a lot of fruit between my meals. My favourite fruits are grapes, watermelons, blueberries, cherries, oranges and strawberries. I like sweets but I eat them only once a week. I drink a lot of water and two glasses of milk every day.

I like eating out and I love junk food. On Sunday evenings I usually eat pizza with my friends and we eat sweets too. Generally I hang out with my friends in restaurants but I try to eat healthy food there.

An informal letter giving news Dear Georgia, I hope you are fine because I haven’t heard form you for a long time.

I’m writing to you, because I want to tell you my news. I know that you will be happy with this! I passed my last exams a week ago and now I’m waiting to get my diploma. I took the decision to come to Italy, where you are, and do MBA studies. I have been informed that I have to go abroad, if I want to be more successful, and improve my career in Hospitality Management!

So, what I really want from you is to do me a favour. I want you to find a university for me in Italy. Also, if you are going to stay one more year in Italy, we can stay together in a bigger flat! It sounds amazing that I will see you soon. I hope nothing will change until then.

IELTS WRITING TEST 9 –Task 1 Anna Psarouda The chart below illustrates the total number for minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995 to 2002. It is interesting to see that the use of mobile phones skyrocketed during this period, and national and international fixed line telephones increased by more than 20%. However, local fixed line calls still remain the most popular way of communication despite a slight decline (-2%) of the minutes.

According to the bar chart, in 1975 more than 70 billion minutes were spent by people who used local fixed lines, whereas only 2 billion minutes were spent by people using a mobile-phone. The use of local –fixed line phones increased constantly from 1995 to 1999, when it reached approximately 90 billion minutes. However, after 1999 there was a steady drop every year reaching 71 billion minutes in 2002. The national and international fixed line kept rising each year, during the period between 1995 and 2002.

In fact, in 1995 the number of minutes of national calls was 37 billion and in 2002 it reached 72 billion. Finally, the number of mobile calls was 2 billion minutes in 1995 and in 2002 it climbed to 45 billion minutes.

In conclusion, mobile phones gained much more popularity during this period.

However, the local-fixed line calls remain the most popular way of calling in the UK.

IELTS WRITING TEST 8.4, Task 2 In some countries the average weight of people is increasing and their levels of health and fitness are decreasing. What do you think are the causes of these problems and what measures could be taken to solve them?

It cannot be denied that obesity is a common problem in our day and age. The aforementioned phenomenon is the case of several health conditions. Is it not high time our society did something to prevent this phenomenon?

In the paragraphs that follow, the causes of the problem and possible solutions will be discussed.

One of the main reasons of obesity is the wide expansion of fast food restaurants and their promotion by the media. Due to the advertisements, as well as their affordable prices, fast food restaurants have become everybody’s favourite place for a meal with friends.

Another reason for the spread of obesity is the fast pace of life in modern societies. People, nowadays do not have the time to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, a crucial reason for the spread of obesity is the low quality of food and snacks that we consume.

Possible countermeasures could be taken by the governments in order to ensure the health of their citizens. A stricter legislation should be established concerning the quality of the fast food restaurants’ products, ensuring a better quality, together with quality controls, which could warrant that these products meet high standards.

Furthermore, the media should present a healthier and more easy-going lifestyle, so that people start adopting that particular style. Governments should also adopt legislations that relieve their citizens of their long working hours and allow them more leisure time in order to maintain a better and healthier lifestyle.

In a nutshell, the decrease of interest in health and fitness is not a trivial problem. Serious consideration should be put into the matter and swift action should be taken in order to ensure the welfare of humanity.
