flower folly.
Inspired by the cone plant flower, the folly, as described in the name, is reminiscent of a flower. The tree in the middle is to insinuate the silhouette of the large, protruding pistol of the cone plant flower. Inspired by the Orchard Pavilion created by Centro de Colaboración Arquitectónica, the folly lowered into the ground, in which the sightline becomes closer to the water level, which is a major factor when considering the site. Having a similar shape to other follies and pavilions in parks nearby, it continues the common language throughout the city. Similar to the inaccessible garden in the Jewish Museum designed by Studio Libeskind in Berlin, the tree is inaccessible. This concept is meant to put emphasis on the importance of nature and the ecological controversies in today’s world. This is especially important to the site because of the various groups that are centered around preserving the site, Burnett Woods, to their best ability.

rooftop pavilion.
Research was done on iconic buildings of the past, such as the Enoura Observatory by Hiroshi Sugimoto, The Thermal Vals by Peter Zumthor, and the Jewish Museum designed by Studio Libeskind. Inspiration was taken from each, where the long hallway was derived from the observatory, the inaccessible garden space with viewing ports inspired by the Jewish Museum, and the materials and light paths inspired from The Thermal Vals building. Thus, the final design incorporated all of these aspects and more in order to create a specific experience for the individuals within the space that sets up many different choices of which way to proceed, where to stop and look, and what to interact with. The entire pavilion itself is then lifted off the ground to support the idea of an experience that is unique and acts as a juxtaposition to the materiality of the pavilion. Under the pavilion is a water feature that mimics the shape of said pavilion in order to add dynamic landscaping which a common language of the space.

module project.
This series of module units were proposed to investigate the repetitive single unit that can prove to be versatile in aggregation which considers material, coating finish, texture, color, size, and many more. Through many iterations of shapes that are able to interlock together, the final shape consists of a square with two sides cut off diagonally. If thought of in terms of planes, there are six congruent triangles that serve as these planes, making up the unit. Because of the versatility of the unit, there are endless aggregations, whether they stack, fit into each other, or lean off each other. The material of metal sheeting also provide a contemporary look which is similar to many outdoor art pieces. The metal is very reflective, in which the modular unit serves as a reflection of it’s environment. In addition to the aggregation studies, there were pattern studies done as drawings and renderings that show what the aggregate possibilities are beyond the five singular units.

100 + 1 project.
The project being a truly abstract one , in accordance with the artist’s interpretation of materials and studies around them, the purpose was to demonstrate the connection between an object that is plentiful and a material that connects the first material. The piece consisted of many creative liberties in which the designer is required to choose solely two items. The materials used in this specific project were the repetitive white paint tube rollers, along with the white oil based clay. The clay served as the medium to connect the individual paint rollers, which form was abstract and cloud like. The paint rollers were inserted and when removed, the holes resembled the windows of the iconic UFO houses once popular, which was referenced in the drawing.
