PANTHER NATIONAL

Before The Match became golf’s made-for-TV showdown, there was The Skins Game — the original event that brought together four of the sport’s biggest personalities for high-stakes competition and unforgettable entertainment. From 1983 to 2008, it was a Thanksgiving weekend tradition that captured the attention of golf fans everywhere, producing decades of memorable moments and championing the fun, spirited side of the game.

Ladies, Swing Into Action!

This November marks the start of an exciting new season for Ladies Golf — where learning, connection, and fun come together on the course.

Ladies Clinics

We’re redefining how we practice, train, and play!

Each clinic is designed to build confidence, strengthen your skills, and help you understand the “why” behind your swing. This month’s focus: foundations and fundamentals.

Week 2 Tempo & Balance

Week 3 Introduction To Chipping

Ladies Days

After the clinics, join us on the course for Ladies Days — a relaxed, social way to play, connect, and keep improving. Choose 9 or 18 holes, enjoy fun formats, and experience golf with great company. join us for both or one! TIP

Most bunker struggles start before the swing—your setup is the real key.

WIDEN YOUR STANCE

Go slightly wider than shoulder-width and dig in for balance.

OPEN UP

Turn your lead foot and open the clubface before gripping to add loft and use the club’s bounce.

BALL FORWARD

Position the ball near your front heel so the club enters the sand just behind it.

WEIGHT FORWARD

Keep about 60% of your weight on your lead side for consistent contact.

STAY STEADY

Keep your lower body quiet and let your upper body swing through smoothly.

A stable setup and open face lets the club glide through the sand, producing that crisp “thump” and a soft, controlled shot onto the green.

On the bag With Goose

If you’ve spent any time around the practice tee, chances are you’ve heard someone call out “Goose” and seen one of Panther National’s most upbeat and respected caddies turn and wave.

Meet Ronan “Goose” Lucey — a New Hampshire native, professional caddie, and proud member of the Panther National team whose passion for golf and people shines through every round he walks.

FROM “LOOSEY GOOSEY” TO “GOOSE”

The nickname “Goose” might sound like a Top Gun reference, but the story behind it is entirely his own.

“It started at Shelter Harbor, where I was caddying and working as an assistant caddie master,” Ronan explains. “I worked a loop with a caddie from Augusta National who didn’t like my first name. He asked for my last name — Lucey — and said, ‘Loosey Goosey.’ By the end of the round, it was just ‘Goose.’” The nickname stuck.

The staff started calling him that, his sister picked it up, and it turned out to be his father's childhood nickname.

Great caddies often have memorable nicknames. ‘Goose with a mustache’ is way harder to forget than ‘Ronan with no mustache.’ We’ll play into the Top Gun reference now and then, but for me, it’s about being remembered for doing the job well and continuing to move forward in my career.”

EARLY LOOPS AND FINDING HIS PATH

Goose started caddying at 14 at Manchester Country Club in New Hampshire. “I was playing competitive junior golf, and my dad wanted me to get a job,” he recalls. “I still remember my first training session, my first loop, and carrying a bag the same size as me — late growth spurt problems.”

Through the Francis Ouimet Foundation, he got the chance

to caddie in the Deutsche Bank Pro-Am with “Fluff” Cowan for Jim Furyk — a moment that stuck with him and confirmed that he was exactly where he wanted to be.

After that, he spent five summers at Shelter Harbor in Rhode Island. “My dad grew up on the same street as the head pro, and his son and I had played in a junior event together,” he says. “He offered me summer work, and it became my home — caddying, working outside operations, helping as assistant caddie master, and playing while I competed for Endicott College.”

After college, Goose worked in sales and marketing for a startup called Wears Woody. “I felt stuck,” he admits. “I quit without a plan — not my smartest move — and called Nick Erlichman at Old Sandwich, a fellow Endicott alum, to see if he had any work.”

When winter hit, Goose asked Nick if he had any connections in West Palm Beach. “My college roommate had offered me a month on his couch, Nick made some calls, told me about a brand-new course looking for a caddie, and said, ‘You should take a shot.’ I called Jake LaMore, and the rest is history.”

“God put me through the right lessons, introduced me to the right people, and opened the right doors at the right time,” Goose says. “It brought me to one of the best places in the country and helped me find my true calling.”

CHASING THE DREAM

When Goose decided to pursue caddying at the highest level, he became one of the first seven professionally trained caddies through the Professional Caddie Certification Program at NC State, taught by two Hall of Fame caddies. “It advanced my career and gave me the tools to keep growing.”

Since then, he’s caddied in five Korn Ferry Tour events and one PGA Tour event. “It’s a grind — planes, buses, trains, long days, and new yardages every week, the talent is incredible, so every shot matters. You’re not just a caddie; you’re a nutritionist, psychologist, anger management coach, and friend. But I love it. I love helping someone play their best golf and have fun along the way — the same reason I love being at Panther.”

UNFORGETTABLE LOOPS

Goose has had the chance to caddie for some of the biggest names in sports — from Stanley Cup winners and Golden Glove recipients to major champions. But his favorite loop so far was with musician Noah Kahan.

“His music got me through my darkest days, and I’ve shared countless car rides singing his songs with my sister,” I’d seen him in concert three times — then got to spend a day golfing, joking, playing a par-3 match, grabbing dinner, hitting Square Grouper, and later going to TGL together. Total pinch-me moment.”

A close second: chasing the course record with our Panther National Ambassador and PGA Tour Pro Sahith Theegala, and watching him make a hole-in-one on the par 3.

Scoring Tip

Easy — listen to Goose. Even if I’m wrong, you can blame me. But seriously — aim for the fat parts of fairways, play toward slopes on greens, and on the four turtleback greens, aim for the middle. Take what the course gives you.

GOOSE’S TAKE ON PANTHER NATIONAL

For Goose, the most underrated hole is No. 3 — a demanding par 5 that he believes sets the tone early. It requires a precise tee shot, followed by a strategic choice: challenge the water or play it safe.

His favorite? No. 11, framed by water, bunkers, and elevation changes. He loves reading its green, where creativity and touch come into play.

And the toughest relative to par? Goose points to No. 13, where birdies are rare. The approach must find the right plateau or players face a slippery two-putt or delicate up-and-down.

Post Round with Noah Kahan

MINDSET AND MOTIVATION

Goose believes his strength as a caddie lies in understanding people. “I read players quickly — who needs jokes, who needs focus, who needs silence,” he says. “Communication is everything. The best way to know how to help someone is to combine what I sense with what they tell me.”

He often talks players both into and out of risky shots. “All the time,” he says. “When Petr was chasing 59, he pulled into the trees on 18. We could’ve played it safe, but I asked if 60 meant as much as 59. He said no — so we went for it through a tiny gap. Missed by inches, made par for 61. Sometimes the belief is as important as the outcome.”

His advice for every golfer is simple: “Have fun and be kind,” after losing my mom, I realized no one remembers your score — but they’ll remember if you enjoyed the round and treated people well. The golf course is a gift; enjoy it.”

A HOME AT PANTHER NATIONAL

Though Goose has ambitions to one day caddie for a top player and compete on golf’s biggest stages, Panther National remains his foundation. He considers it home — a place he’s deeply proud to represent and hopes to see recognized among the finest courses in the country.

What keeps him rooted here isn’t just the championship layout, but the people who shape it. He credits Caddie Master Jake LaMore for holding him accountable and helping him grow both personally and professionally. Fellow caddie Zach Starkey is another source of motivation — the two push each other constantly, whether looping together, playing, or chasing opportunities on the Korn Ferry circuit.

For Goose, Panther National isn’t just where he works — it’s where he’s become the caddie, and the person, he wants to be.

"HAVE FUN AND BE KIND." — Goose

“The members have treated me unbelievably well,” Goose adds. “It’s been an honor getting to know them, laugh with them, and try to help them play better golf. I feel welcomed, honored, and privileged to wear that Panther ‘P’ on Tour — and to call this place home.”

Trouble on The Big Cat

KNOW THE LAYOUT

The 8th at Panther National may be the shortest Par 3 on the course, but don’t be fooled — precision is at a premium. Aiming for the “postage stamp” green requires an accurate short iron, as deep bunkers and hollows await any wayward tee shot.

Nestled along the property’s northern boundary beside a nature preserve, the 8th offers a quiet, scenic setting. The green is slender, angled, and shared with #17, surrounded by steep contours, bunkers, and hollows. While it can yield a birdie, a misjudged shot can easily result in bogey or worse.

TAKEAWAY

Short doesn’t mean simple. The 8th hole rewards careful thought, controlled swings, and smart course management. Hit the target, respect the hazards, and the hole can be a highlight of your front nine.

HOW TO DOMINATE THE 8TH HOLE

club selection: Many golfers default to a mid or short iron, but over-clubbing slightly is often safer given the surrounding hazards.

aim for safety: Favor the more forgiving side of the green, away from bunker edges and steep slopes.

mind pin position & slope: Take note of where the flag sits — some placements expose you to challenging slopes or bunker lines.

use the contours: Shots landing just off the green can be guided toward the hole by subtle contours — precision is key.

check wind & elevation: Even a short hole can be influenced by swirling winds or slight elevation changes near the preserve, so adjust accordingly.

In the Trap

DID YOU KNOW?

Panther National has 91,000 sq ft of “Pro-Angle” bunkers that are raked every single day.

Pro-Angle bunkers feature a proprietary blend of 100% angular, silica-based sand, which is designed to resist washouts, maintain slope retention, and improve drainage. The uniquely shaped, jagged particles provide excellent ball support and are less prone to plugging or yielding "fried egg" lies compared to rounded sands. This results in a more consistent, playable surface for golfers and reduces maintenance for course staff.

Community Updates

CLUBHOUSE CONSTRUCTION

Exciting progress continues on the new clubhouse! As of November, all underground utility work has been completed — including site drainage, fire and main water lines that will serve the building.

Over the next several weeks, you’ll start to see the main floor take shape as the floor joists are installed and perimeter walls continue to rise.

We’ve also taken this opportunity to refine portions of the clubhouse layout, making thoughtful updates designed to elevate both the member and team experience.
