100 years young: Collie CWA celebrates By SHARON BONTHUYS Around 120 people descended on the village of Collie last Saturday, June 28 as the local Country Women’s Association (CWA) Day Branch celebrated its centenary. The town’s population temporarily peaked for the day as attendees came from near and far to celebrate the special event at the CWA hall with the hardworking members of the Collie CWA Day and Evening Branches. And celebrate they did, with a delicious centenary cake, beautiful violin music by Frances Evans, excellent hosts and guest speakers, displays of handicrafts, photos and memorabilia through the ages, and of course, glorious food as only the CWA knows how to provide. “Everyone here has some connection to us,” event MC Domenica Banks, a member of the Evening Branch, told the gathering. “You’re either a current member, past member, family of past members, a member of [other branches] or our sister branch, or you might be here just for the free feed and a catch up,” she added. Day Branch president, Noeleen Herbig, told Warren
