IN BRIEF

Changes to council staffing, departments

Delroy Clontarf Academy operations manager Mark Prince, students Paul Eastwood, Malakai Gibbs, Quincy Ross, Klayton Naden (holding cut speaker cables), Dubbo Regional Council Youth Council coordinator Jason Yelverton, and Delroy Clontarf Academy operations manager Drew Gibbs, are pictured after assisting the clean-up of the Westview Drive-In ready for Youth Week 2017.

Library to host Drive-in display

The Delroy Clontarf Academy is open to indigenous boys from year 7 to 10 at the Dubbo College Delroy Campus. The Clontarf Foundation was opened in 2000 with 25 boys and today caters to 5500 boys in 91 schools across Australia. The purpose of the program is to build leadership, self-esteem and overall well-being. The Dubbo Rhinos Rugby Club also sent volunteers to the drive-in to help with clean-up activities.

STARTING tomorrow (Friday, March 24) and continuing until April 11, the Macquarie Regional Library will host a display of items from the drivein including the car speakers and film reels.

By YVETTE AUBUSSON-FOLEY MEMBERS of the Delroy Clontarf Academy started work early on Saturday, March 18, to lend a hand to the cleanup project at the Westview Drive-in on the Narromine Road, in preparation for Youth Week 2017 activities being held there on April 7, 8 and 9. The young men in uniform were tasked with removing rubbish, clearing overgrown greenery and cutting off old speaker cables from around 400

speaker towers, which have remained dormant since the drive-in’s closure 33 years ago. During the drive-in’s heyday, individual speakers were hung inside the car windows, attached by cable to a speaker tower. Music at intermission was also played through this system, broadcast using cassette tapes and a tape deck. Speakers were replaced when a film’s soundtrack could be transmitted through FM radio.

THE interim senior staff structure of the Dubbo Regional Council is to undergo a change following a meeting on Monday, March 20, which decided that the office of the General Manager would be created to “guide service improvement”. The meeting also heard that the number of divisions within council will be reduced and renamed. These divisions are Economic Development and Business, Infrastructure and Operations, Corporate Services, Planning and Environment, and Community and Recreation. An open recruitment process for new directors will begin in the near future. Coinciding with the recruitment of Directors, a draft organisational structure below Senior Staff level is being developed and will be presented to staff for consultation, also in the near future.
