THE THUMBS Thumbs up to all the gentlemen of & Dubbo. In one afternoon I was offered help with weighty goods in the post office and Woolworths. To Colin in Woolworths Orana Mall self-service, and to all the door openers and generally courteous men of the district, I thank you. Thumbs down to the secret Santa who ' left me an early Christmas present this week by smashing a window on the car I drive. My brother very generously lets me drive the car – at his inconvenience – to help me during a financially difficult time. But I empathise. Christmas is challenging. We’re “meant” to feel joy but emotions are mixed, so instead of getting mad at you – though it’s lucky we’ll never meet – I hope you find some peace in what you’ve demonstrated must be a meaningless life. A broken window is probably nothing compared to that.

Official opening of Aspect Property’s new office Contributed by AMANDA SWAIN ASPECT Property’s office opening at 2 Blueridge Drive Dubbo was attended by a large number of guests on Friday, November 25. The office was officially opened by the Honourable Mr Troy Grant, Member for Dubbo. A large crowd of friends, clients and colleagues enjoyed an afternoon of preChristmas drinks to help celebrate this milestone.

Thumbs up to my granddaughter for her & time and patience in losing weight for her health and to benefit herself. She deserves a big pat on the back, she’s gone from beautiful to gorgeous. Thumbs down to the ones that decided to ' rob some young people on the weekend. They stole laptops, iPods and jewellery but your car was seen and a description has been handed in to police.

Thumbs up to Santa in the shopping centre for showing lots of patience with some little children who were, at first, very nervous. By the time they had finished their visit with the jolly man in red, they were giggling and smiling.

Contributed by DEIRDRE STRAHORN DUBBO Macquarie Club had a very satisfying year with great meetings and an increased membership. It also held an impressive District Competition in Dubbo in March with competitors coming from Sydney and the North Coast. The club will hold its final meeting for the year on December 13, and resume on February 7, 2017. New members are always welcome. We are a friendly club!

here and Parkes. It’s making my regular travel back and forth slower, but the sections that have been finished are a huge improvement. Thumbs down to whoever was responsible ' for the eye-sore in the carpark next to the foot bridge at the bottom of Tamworth Street this week. Monday morning walkers were greeted with a badly vandalised car, with windows smashed and doors and bonnet wide open. It was bad enough for local people to see – it’s left visitors to Dubbo who were up early and enjoying our riverside walking/cycling paths with a very negative impression of our city. This DPN reader felt very sorry for the owner of the car, too.

Colin Hill accepts awards on behalf of Karina and himself at the Lithgow Competition. Colin won 3rd place in the Table Topics Competition.

Thumbs up to the swimming programs & happening in local schools at this time of year. A DPN reader noted that these sorts of lessons haven’t always been provided, and we shouldn’t take them for granted because knowing how to swim is a life-long and lifesaving skill.
