YOUR PHOTOS, YOUR SAY DUBBO ORIENTEERING UPDATE Contributed by LORNA BRENNAN ON a fairly warm Sunday, February 28, a group of keen orienteers met at Rosewood Grove to compete in one of the two courses set by new course setters, Nick and Sylvia Besseling. Keen runner and newcomer to orienteering, Paul Metcalfe, took out the score course in a time of 39.25 closely followed by the Kate Kennedy/ Kelly Bateman team. Several other entrants enjoyed the course and gave their dogs some exercise at the same time… everyone was glad of the water at the finish! Two members of the Western Plains Orienteers are set to travel down to the Hunter Valley this weekend to hone their bush orienteering skills at the annual women’s training camp. Sally Devenish (manager of the NSW Schools Squad) and Lorna Brennan are looking forward to a weekend of fun in the sun with other club members from around the state. Our next event is Sunday, March 20, starting 10:00am at the old RAAF base. Parking: Along the right hand side of the main gates on grass area along Palmer St., watch for buses and vehicles as they use this entry. Start is 200m inside the main gates, take first road to the right, follow it around and you will see the area. The rough open areas have some tall grass which is runnable, but you may prefer to use the recently slashed areas for faster running. Some tracks are not quite as obvious as others. I suggest you wear joggers and long pants/tights. No toilets are available at this event. Electronic timing will be used on all courses. Course Controls Length: Moderate 12, 3.0 km, Easy 14, 1.9 km, Very Easy 12, 1.5 km. Cost is $5 per person with a max. of $20 per family. Plus $2 for timing stick hire. Hope you can make it.
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY ON THE MACQUARIE RIVER Contributed by MELISSA GRAY MACQUARIE River Bush Care had 20 volunteers turn up for our Clean Up Australia kayak river clean up. We dragged 12 bags of recycling, five bags of general rubbish and five shopping trolleys out of the river between Church Street
boat ramp and the north weir. Plastic bottles remain the biggest problem. The 10c container deposit is coming, but not soon enough! We encourage all Dubbo residents to enjoy and take pride in our river and keep it looking beautiful by not littering!
