Martinsburg Roundhouse sponsors unique Artist/Crafters “Destash” Market
Martinsburg, W.Va Martinsburg Roundhouse is gearing up for a very special event in conjunction with the upcoming “Oddfest” festival on Saturday, July 8th from 10 am-3 pm. The “Destash Market” is a first-time community sale, for craft/art supplies, patterns, parts, tools, displays, equipment, etc. What’s a “destash”. It’s the opposite of a “stash”. Artist, crafters, hobbyists, anyone who makes and create things all have boxes, drawers, closets, even rooms and buildings of supplies that they use for their creations. However, “Face it.”, there comes a point when there’s just too much. Here’s a chance to relieve yourself of these extra items. The “Destash Market” has a couple of objectives. Obviously, it is providing a venue for artists/craftsperson to clear their supplies, parts, tools, etc. and match the items up with buyers. But this is also an event that
brings together creative people. The Berkeley county area is filled with people make things. There are festivals, studio tours, community craft shows, and small outlets of handmade items throughout the region. Many people sell on Etsy and other on-line venues. The “Destash Market” will be an opportunity for those individuals to meet up. The list of items coming to the market is extensive; pottery tools, gourd making supplies, fabric, ribbon, , beading supply, jewelry findings, woodworking tools, picture frames, patterns of all types, how-to books, painting supplies, just to get the list started. Also being offered are parts for booth displays. The only household items that will be allowed are things that directly used for crafting or the arts. This list is bound to grow as more individuals sign up to sell. The “Destash Market” is not a craft/art fair. Its empha-
sis is not to provide a venue to sell handmade products though some vendors may bring their wares. Adding handmade products to booth does increase the cost of a booth. Vendor booth fee is $10 if you are only selling supplies. If you are including your handmade items in your booth, the fee is $25. The market is being held rain or shine inside the Roundhouse. There is no charge to attend the “Destash Market”. There are 2 ways to access the Roundhouse. Park above near Caperton Station and come across on the walkover bridge or you may drive directly on to the Roundhouse property using the Liberty Street entrance. Good Samaritan Free Clinic, 121 North Queen Street, Martinsburg, WV The public is invited to participate in a shoe drive to raise funds for the clinic. Donations of gently worn, used and new shoes will be accepted. The amount of money raised is determined by the total weight of the shoes collected. All donated shoes will be redistributed to microenterprise partners through Funds2Orgs, a for profit social enterprise and used in developing nations for impoverihed people to start their own businesses.

The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County is participating in Applebee’s Dining to Donate program. Dine at Applebee’s in Charles Town the first Thursday of each month from 11:00 a.m. until closing and Applebee’s will donate 20% of your bill to the Animal Welfare Society. Bring in the flyer printed from the AWS website – www.awsjc.org and mention Animal Welfare Society to your server. Enjoy an evening of delicious food and help the shelter dogs and cats that are waiting for new homes. The Animal Welfare Society is a non-profit, no-kill shelter and United Way agency located on Leetown Pike near the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. The society has been helping the plight of homeless and neglected pets since 1952.

Removing one’s eyes from the road for mere seconds can have dangerous repercussions, contributing to accidents, injury or even death. Distraction.gov, the United States government’s official website for Distracted Driving, states that, in 2014, 3,179 people were killed and 431,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration offers that 10 percent of all drivers between the ages of 15 and 19 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crashes. This age group has the largest proportion of driv ers who were distracted at the time of the crashes. The term “distracted driving” is an umbrella term that refers to various behaviors drivers engage in when behind the wheel. The situations below are some of the biggest distractions today’s drivers must deal with. Talking or texting on a mobile phone Mobile phone usage is one of the leading causes of distracted driving. Five seconds is the average time a person’s eyes are off the road while texting. When traveling at 55 mph, that’s enough time to cover the length of a football field blindfolded. Passenger distractions People, pets and objects inside of a vehicle can be quite a distraction as well. Removing focus from the road for a few seconds to address rowdy children in the back seat or to pass food to the backseat can cause vehicles to veer. Drivers who allow pets to ride unrestrained in their cars may find their animals in their laps or roaming around, which can be distracting as well. Drivers should remain in control of
