Dear Parents,

I am constantly in awe of our community and how everyone pulls together to ensure the children's experience in school and beyond is meaningful, fulfilling, and geared towards developing key personal skills and qualities. There have been so many events recently, such as the Year 3 and Year 4 Fringe Festival, the Primary Drama FOBISIA trip in Bangkok, Safeguarding Week, Transition Days, the Year 8 Sleepover at JIS, Wildlife Warriors, and of course our International Day—where staff, parents, and children worked so very hard and put so much thought and care into them, making them hugely beneficial and exciting.

Learning and care continue to be our focus during lessons, with gratitude, Big Bad Wolves, Jungle Walks, poetry, and creativity being some of the highlights over the past couple of weeks. I hope you enjoy reading and finding out more in this edition. It is also that time of year when assessments are taking place, allowing the children to demonstrate the extent of their learning and celebrate this with their peers, teachers, and parents.

Good luck to our netball and rugby players who will be competing in the BJSL at JIS next Tuesday, 10th June, and to our Year 8s for their Graduation Ceremony next Thursday, 12th June.

A reminder that we have a public holiday this Monday, 9th June. May I also wish our Muslim community a very happy Hari RayaAidilAdha. School will resume on Tuesday, 10th June—wishing everyone a safe and lovely long weekend.

Best Wishes, Brian, SLTand all of our staff.

Y1 Hornbills & Y1 Macaques The Jungle Walk

At the start of the week, Year 1 had an exciting beginning to the last half of Term 3 with a ‘jungle walk’ around the school and through Panaga Camp.

This served as a hook for our new literacy unit on recounts. We used our senses—except for taste—to explore the area and spot different birds, hives, silverleaf monkeys, and a bumpy, unusual plant.

One of the highlights of our walk was seeing a big, beautiful hornbills’ house and spotting Brunei’s national flower, the Simpur.

We thoroughly enjoyed the walk around the camp—it was a fun and engaging way to kick off our learning!

Generic Games in PE

In Melilas and Teraja buildings, we have entered a new unit of work. Generic games play a vital role in physical education by promoting fun, enjoyment, and inclusive participation for all students. These games, often adaptable and varied in format, help develop essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and spatial awareness. Through engaging in these activities, students build tactical understanding by making decisions in real-time, learning when to attack, defend, and support teammates effectively. The informal and enjoyable nature of generic games encourages creativity, allowing students to experiment with movement and strategy under pressure without the fear of failure. Leadership opportunities also naturally emerge, as players take responsibility for organising, guiding, and motivating others within dynamic, fast-changing scenarios. These experiences build confidence and resilience, which are transferable to both sport-specific contexts and wider life situations. Overall, generic games provide a valuable platform for developing physical literacy while nurturing important social and cognitive skills that contribute to well-rounded, confident learners.

Wildlife Warriors visit Anthony Abell College, Seria

On Saturday May 17th over 30 students who take part in the Wildlife Warrior ASA visited Anthony Abell College in Seria to share their knowledge about Bruneian and Bornean wildlife. The wildlife warriors led games, activities and challenges to about 60 Bruneian children who were keen to learn more about the incredible animals inourhostcountry.

Panaga students displayed so many personal qualities from respectandcommunicationtogreatlevelsofenquiryasthey asked and answered questions about the wildlife. Students from both schools agreed they had both learnt a lot - not only facts about the wildlife in Brunei but also how to better care and look after it to ensure that future generations can enjoyittoo!

We would like to thank AnthonyAbell College for welcoming us and look forward to many more partnerships in the future.
