How Human’s Work Year 3
As part of our IC unit Year 3 have been studying teeth, finding out what teeth are made of, how we can get cavities, and more importantly, how to keep our teeth clean to avoid decay. We were very fortunate to have a dentist visit Yr 3 to help the children understand further. Ms Queen also explained how and why we should floss and brush our teeth.

We also conducted an investigation to see which drinks are good or not so good for our teeth.Weputeggsincoke, ribena, waterand milk for a week, and compared them to the control egg. Ribena and coke were the worst, because of the sugar, The bacteria in our mouth eats the sugar and releases acid whichcausescavities.

Panaga School Chess Competition
The children in Years 3 to 8 have been demonstrating their chess prowess this term in the Panaga School chess competition. 89 children took part in this year’s competition and the year group winners were as follows:
Year 3 - Shaurya
Year 6 - Branton

Year 4 - Noel
Year
7
Year 5 - Ryan
- Gregory Year 8 - Shane
Following the year group chess competition, the six champions played against each other to determine the Panaga School champion. The final took place in the Teraja Hall in front of an audience and featured Ryan and Branton. Ryan began the game with the Ruy Lopez opening, which was well defended by Branton. The middle game involved a number of exchanges, which gave Ryan an advantage of two pawns. However, Branton’s attacking approach led to him nearly achieving a checkmate by cornering the white king. In the end, Ryan was able to promote a pawn and win an exhilarating game.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part in the competition. The six year group champions will receive a trophy in the near future. If your child would like to improve their understanding of chess, they are welcome to attend the Thursday after-school chessASA. The children in Teraja and Melilas are also welcome to participate in the FOBISIA Online Chess Competition on Saturday, 8th March, which you should have received an email about. Please let me know if you have any chess-related questions (matthewfagg@panagaschool.net).

Chinese New Year Trip to Chung Ching Middle School

On February 8th, our students had the wonderful opportunity to visit Chung Ching Middle School in Seria to celebrate Chinese New Year. The trip was filled with exciting activities, including lantern making, paper cutting, calligraphy writing, and a food-sharing session with the local students. It was an enriching experience where the students not only had a great time but also learned about Chinese cultural traditions and practices.

Students enjoyed learning Chinese calligraphy, creating beautiful brushstroke characters.

In paper cutting, they crafted intricate designs, exploring this unique art form.

They had fun making colorful lanterns, a traditional Chinese New Year craft.
