July/August 2012

I

t should come as no surprise that Nick Peterson’s star has been on the rise since his appearance last summer on The Bachelorette. After all, the Odessa, Florida native has allAmerican good looks and charming personality. And even though they didn’t help him win Ashley Hebert’s heart, they did capture America’s attention. “It’s opened a lot of doors,” admits Peterson, who is appearing on ABC’s The Bachelor Pad this summer for a second chance at love and the prospect of winning $250,000. “The national recognition has helped me build my name up and get my name out.” But gaining popularity isn’t something new for Peterson. The 27-year-old former professional baseball player actually started making a name for himself on the diamond while growing up in Florida. “I was consistently one of the better players on the field, and so I stuck with it,” recalls Peterson, who only discovered his natural talent for baseball after a horrendous attempt at playing soccer. “My dad was always out there practicing with me, pushing me.” Peterson went on to become a superstar pitcher at Jesuit High School, Tampa’s allmale Catholic school with a rich history of turning out all-star athletes. “In high school I was only a pitcher; it’s what I was best at. I wasn’t going to be hitting, I can tell you that,” jokes Peterson. “I enjoyed being in control of the game, having the ball, being the guy in charge.” Peterson’s stellar skills on the mound landed him a scholarship to Appalachian State University in North Carolina, where he played ball for two years before transferring to the University of Tampa. In 2006, Peterson was drafted by the New York Yankees. “Hearing your name come up on the draft, it brings tears to your eyes,” admits Peterson, who was called up in the 12th round as the 374th overall pick. “It’s every boys dream; and you work so hard for it your whole life.” Peterson spent two years in the minor leagues playing with the Yankees’ Staten Island and Charleston, South Carolina farm teams. He then went on to become an independent athlete with teams in Alberta, Canada and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “Independent ball is like what arena football is to the NFL,” explains Peterson. “You’re paid, but there’s no moving up throughout the organization. You’re hoping a Major League

www.PanacheVue.com

Baseball team will pick you out and put you in their organization.” But after two years chasing his Major League dreams, Peterson decided it was time to move on to the next chapter of his life. “I didn’t want to be 35 and still playing independent baseball,” says Peterson, who returned to the University of Tampa to complete his studies and get his bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship. “I gave it my best shot; and it felt like a mature decision to move on. Obviously I didn’t make it all the way to the top, but it was the best four years of my life.” Right around the same time he graduated from college in the summer of 2010, Peterson went on to become a certified personal trainer. And later that year he launched Peety’s Personal Training, located at Body Shapers Private Studio in Tampa. “I always told myself that if I didn’t make it to the big leagues, I would really go at it

on-one; I build a personal relationship with each client.” And Peterson’s client list continues to grow. A year after his Bachelorette days, he’s still seeing a spike in business, as well as a few comical calls from admirers. “I have some clients who are still with me because they saw me on the show,” says Peterson. “But I also get a lot of teenage girls who call to set up an appointment only to show up, giggle, and say hello and leave.” Meanwhile, the still-single Peterson hasn’t given up on love. He’s still searching for an outgoing Christian woman with a similar passion for health and fitness. And once he finds her, he has two ideas for the perfect first date. “I am a country music fan, so I love heading to the amphitheater, laying out a blanket and listening to some great live music,” proclaims Peterson. “Line dancing is another favorite; so either of those would be great dates.” But until Mrs. Right comes along, Pe-

hard,” states Peterson, whose former bodybuilder father introduced him to working out at an early age. “I didn’t really think I’d be doing it for a living. I thought I’d be doing it for fun, for myself. But I love my job!” So what can current and future clients expect from Peterson? “I sing,” kids Peterson, who tends to break out into song while whipping his clients into shape. “It’s a high intensity workout, complete with circuit training. I’ve kind of carried on my father’s body building techniques, and I use a lot of them in my training. It’s all one-

terson plans to concentrate on expanding his business through online personal training while never taking his good fortune for granted. “God has blessed me in so many ways,” affirms Peterson. “I’ve been really blessed with my baseball career, a wonderful family that supports me the whole way through, my own business and The Bachelorette.” With that appreciation for life’s blessings, strong work ethic and charming personality, you can rest assured Peterson won’t be a Bachelor for long.

The Sips You Take This Summer May Be Destroying Your Teeth

T

he beautiful weather we all look forward to is here! It’s a time to dust off the old barbque, enjoy some delicious grill time with family and friends and sip on some cold, thirst quenching soda. Although this image appears heavenly the soda you are drinking can create a dental nightmare! I have told my patients for years that besides smoking cigarettes, soda (this includes diet soda too) is the worst thing you can do to harm your teeth. For many people, soft drinks are the beverage of choice. But you may not realize the two-fold damage it is doing to your teeth. First, soft drinks can contain 10-12 teaspoons of sugar per serving. So, when you drink a soda, you are essentially bathing your teeth in liquid sugar. Dr. Larry Lieberman, DDS The bacteria that naturally live on your teeth feed on that sugar and produce acid. Without proper care, the acid dissolves the surface of your teeth and creates a cavity. Second, soft drinks- especially diet sodas- contain phosphoric and citric acid to enhance flavor. The acids wash over your teeth, affecting the entire tooth structure. Over time , they erode the hard, protective enamel, causing your teeth to get thinner and expose the sensitive dentin layer inside your tooth. As your teeth continue to get thinner, the edges can crumble and lose their natural shape. When the enamel is worn away, it exposes the dentin layer to both

decay and pain. Tooth enamel that’s lost to decay or erosion won’t grow back. We can repair the damage, but the best solution is prevention. This is not a problem only for adults. Children and teens who have frequent access to soft drinks can greatly damage their teeth because their teeth are still forming. Sodas (regular and diet), sports drinks, energy drinks, vitamin waters, fruit juices, teas, blended coffee drinks and wine all contain the sugars that can damage your teeth. A 16-ounce blended coffee drink can contain 500 calories and 69 grams of sugar. Your best choices for a beverage are milk and or course, water. If you must drink soft drinks - use a straw, do not drink for extended periods of time, do not hold the liquid in your mouth before swallowing, cut down on the amount you consume, and after you drink, rinse your mouth with water and brush your teeth. The best decision is to choose the very best thirst quencher. Water has no fat, no caffeine and no acid! With smarter choices and regular check-ups, you can protect the health of your teeth for years. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer! LARRY LIEBERMAN,DDS

Commitment to Fitness by Laurie Talerico

A

dmit it, sometimes working out can be a bore. For some women it’s one more thing on the daily to-do list that’s as thrilling as doing the dishes. But thanks to the creative mind of John Kent, the North Pinellas Adventure Boot Camp for Women is here putting an exciting new spin on fitness training. His motto is a commitment to fitness, fun and friendship. And if you are ready for an exciting change to the average workout routine, then this is the program for you. Boot camps aren’t just for soldiers anymore. John Kent, owner and fitness coach, has been a certified personal trainer for 10 years and was a stage performer before that. He started the boot camp in October 2007, combining his experience as a personal trainer and stage performer to transform the rudimentary workout into a fun fitness experience that takes the drudgery out of exercise and makes working out an adventure to look forward to. The boot camp concept came from California, and it provides two key elements that personal training at a traditional gym cannot do. One element is the boot camp makes time fly and it puts the adventure into a workout. When you are mentally engaged in an energizing activity, there is no chance for boredom to set in. Secondly, it is also affordable. Five days of boot camp training costs the same as one session with a personal trainer and the results are amazing. John’s philosophy is that exercise shouldn’t be what one lives for, but what helps one to live better. Behind all of the fun, there is a scientific theory to this fitness program. This is life changing, science-based fitness and nutrition coaching exclusively for women. The training is different every day. Time in boot camp moves so fast then BAM! it’s over before you know it. Expert fitness instruction is provided so clients can be assured they are doing purposeful workouts, not just random exercises. Every day is an adventure and every day is different. Since the body is efficient and designed to become conditioned to routine, John’s training activities change every five to seven minutes during each session so the body won’t have a chance to become complacent. John uses a combination of resistance training and interval training to “blast fat off the body.” Training is offered three times a day, 5:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 7:00 p.m., to fit into

14

PANACHE VUE’

everyone’s schedule. The boot camp meets outside in the open air so clients workout in a natural setting instead of inside a gym. During the summer months, the 9:00 a.m. boot camp meets indoors to avoid the intense Florida heat. John’s program also includes habit-based nutrition coaching to teach clients how to develop habits and rituals to aid in weight loss and maintain long term success. He is committed to a program with proven results. He realizes there are many diet and exercise programs on the market that claim “quick fixes and magic bullets.” But, there isn’t a fix-all pill, fad diet or pixie dust anyone can use to transform themselves. John accentuates the positive and likes to focus on what clients can do, not on what they can’t do. The combination of John’s science-based exercise program and habit-based nutrition coaching is his recipe for long term success. “This way the weight loss effort is not like the movie Groundhog Day where you’re always starting over with the next new diet, new exercise program, new pills or gadgets.” This boot camp positively impacts the

women who commit to the program, but there is one instance that touched John and remains in his thoughts. One day he noticed one of his clients off to the side, crying. He approached her with concern and asked if she was alright. She told him that she felt silly, but that she was crying tears of joy because she’d finally found a program she could stick with. John realized at that moment what a huge impact he could have on the ladies in the boot camp and in the community. John is able to inspire his clients and keep them enthusiastic, which motivates them and keeps them moving in a healthy direction. John, in turn, owes his success to God and is motivated and inspired by his wife, a/k/a “Super Assistant Extraordinaire.” He says her support allows him to be a better trainer and coach while she keeps everything running smoothly in the office and their home with their four young children. The home base for the North Pinellas Adventure Boot Camp for Women is north Pinellas county and is easily accessible to clients in Pinellas, Pasco and east Hillsborough counties. For more information go to www.BootCampRocks.com or call 727-420-8139. July/August 2012

Red Carpet Tans by Laurie Talerico

S

ummer is officially here and it’s the season of shorts, sundresses and swimsuits. Everyone desires that healthy-looking, golden glow when they are wearing their summer couture. And at first glance, nothing symbolizes a life of leisure more than a suntan. But what if we simply don’t have time to go to the beach? The solution is just a phone call away to Susan Caron, owner of Tantalizing Spray Tans, LLC. Susan offers a new alternative to spending hours in the sun. She brings your new tan to you with her mobile tanning studio servicing Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties. Spray tanning is quickly becoming a popular alternative to traditional sun bathing. Whether you have a reunion, wedding or other special occasion approaching, or www.PanacheVue.com

if you just want a sexy, bronze glow, Tantalizing Spray Tans can help. Susan says that some of the most amazing results of spray tanning are that it instantly makes your teeth look whiter, your legs look longer and your body look more toned after just one application. And an added bonus is that many of her clients get a huge boost in confidence when they see how fabulous they look with their new tan. As part of her service, Susan provides a proper skin analysis. She believes in educating her clients on how to prepare for their tan before the tanning session and she teaches them how to care for their spray tan afterwards for the best results possible. During the tanning session, a pH balance spray is applied prior to tanning and she helps her clients select the appropriate

shade for their skin tone and coloring. Susan’s goal is to deliver perfect results for an even, natural-looking tan. Her focus is to provide specialized, individual service to her clients to ensure a beautiful, redcarpet ready spray tan. Susan is a Tampa native and owes her success to her friends and family, especially her parents. They have supported her along the way and have helped her perfect her passion, which is to increase her clients’ self esteem through spray tanning. Susan’s favorite part of owning her business is giving her clients a better outcome than they had hoped for and seeing how happy they look with their new, radiant tan and leaner, toned appearance. A Modern Legacy:

Contemporary Art from the Gulf Coast Museum of Art Collection Sunday, July 29 through Sunday, Oct. 7 Richard Currier (American, b. 1960) Mirror Image, 2005 Encaustic on canvas mounted on wood, 98 x 90 in. Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, St. Petersburg College, Gulf Coast Museum of Art Collection Gift of the artist, GC2006.002 To honor the legacy of the Gulf Coast Museum of Art, which closed its doors in 2009 after 73 years of cultural service in Pinellas County, the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art is pleased to present an exhibition focused on the former museum’s significant modern and contemporary art. This collection was acquired by St. Petersburg College with the desire to keep the collection in the county where it was amassed. Much of the art works were assimilated into the permanent collection of the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, while other pieces were transferred to the St. Petersburg College Collection where they provide a visual presence on the campuses of the College. This is a rare opportunity to see works united from both collections. A Modern Legacy includes examples of photography, large-scale painting, fine art craft, and installation art drawn from the Gulf Coast Museum of Art collection. Included in the show are notable Florida artists Richard Currier, Lance Rodgers, Stacy Rosende, Roberta Schofield, Anna Tomczak, Jeff Whipple, and regional craft artists, Dale Lewis, Kathran Siegel and Sa Sisaluemsak, among others.

Q: What is the DRX9000? A: The DRX 9000 is a state of the art machine that allows us to perform spinal decompression in the comfort of our offices.

With his state of the art DRX9000, Dr. Carl Conforti is changing the lives of people who experience the following:

Q: What kind of conditions do you treat with your spinal decompression? A: The DRX9000 allows us to treat quite a few conditions. We have both neck and back decompression, so we treat for neck pain, sciatic pain, lower back pain, auto injuries, sports injuries, bulging and herniated discs, and many other injuries.

• Back pain due to sciatica • Sleepless nights • Back or neck injury as the result of an accident

Q: How do you determine if someone is a candidate for your treatment process? A: In our candidate assessment we review MRI’s, x-rays, and we utilize our computerized spinal exam (EMG) to evaluate the problem. After reviewing all of the tests, we discuss medical history and the complexity of the issues.

• Numbness in your hands or toes • Degenerative disc disease • Herniated and bulging discs • Relapse of neck or back pain following surgery

Q: So once you decide that someone is a candidate, what can they expect next? A: Once we have determined that someone is a candidate for the spinal decompression treatment, we lay out a treatment plan and start treatment as soon as possible. Many times we can start the patient that week, and sometimes even that day! With the treatment plan in mind, we start the spinal decompression and our other treatments that we use alongside the spinal decompression to ensure that our patients get optimal results!

• Spinal stenosis

Q: Do the treatments hurt? A: No, not at all. In fact, many of our patients fall asleep during the treatment process. Others choose to read books and listen to music. It is actually a very relaxing treatment.

The treatment process does not involve any surgery or painful recovery and provides a PERMANENT solution to neck and back pain to patients throughout the Tampa Bay area.

Q: What is your success rate with this treatment? A: As opposed to traditional surgery, which is about 50% success, our treatment process is successful over 80% of the time. Our careful attention to specific needs and our full in office treatment process allows our patients to be back enjoying their lives pain free and full of life!

It’s summertime

Dr. Paul Duryea

“It’s summertime when the living is easy” many of us remember that old classic and the memories of past summertime adventures. Getting into this summertime season I had a very interesting question poised to me at a recent new patient consult. I was asked by a young Patients mother that “Wasn’t it true that if the patient is older when we treat them the teeth will stay better in their new position”. According to this Mother this is what had been told to her by friends. Unfortunately this is another “old wives tale”. So to set the record straight, Age has no direct relationship to long term stability of an Orthodontic end result. What I mean by direct relationship is that the position of the teeth will maintain themselves as long as they are retained, no matter how old one is. I guess one could argue that a young person may not

wear their retainers as well as an older individual and hence see more tooth movement. But it boils down to the individual and their wiliness to follow their Orthodontists recommendations. In all the years that I have been in practice I have seen patients that I have treated at the age of 12 and with good retainer wear see perfect stability at the age of 40. In the converse I have seen patients treated at the age of 40 and by 45 their teeth are moving all over the place due to poor retainer wear. One thing that summer affords us is that getting your braces on now will allow for adjustment to them prior to the beginning of School, and one less thing to be concerned about starting a new school year. Please call us today for a complimentary consult and “Let’s get something straight”.

irror, mirror on the wall – who is the fairest of them all? This is a question from a lady who wanted validation that she was, indeed, the fairest in the land. This childhood fairy tale demonstrates something that we all need – someone to tell us that we have value. For her, it was a mirror talking to her. For us, it’s a little different. We need to talk to the mirror. Talking to the mirror may be, at first, a little uncomfortable; and the conversation we need to have can be a little difficult until we get accustomed to having it on a daily basis. After all, how many of us truly feel like we are the “fairest in the land”. For many people, there are instead, these old tapes that play over in our head that say we’re not good enough, we’re not attractive, we’re not as good as others. It’s time to re-record those tapes, and the mirror is the tool to help us. As you look into the mirror, take an objective look at who is looking back at you. There are some really nice features about that image; a nice smile, good complexion, gentle eyes. Now let’s focus on the eyes a little more deeply. On old proverb states “the eyes are the window to the soul”. Let’s look in the window and see what is in there that we really want. As we are window shopping, there may be many things we would like to have, but we need to focus on those things that are most important to us. Try to find five things. Once we identify five, we begin to bring those things into our personal universe and learn how they are achievable. At first, the old little voices plant seeds of doubt and tell us that we are silly to even think about it. But we have identified those five things and the old tapes have already lost their power to keep us feeling badly about ourselves. Now our daily exercise routine is

to look in that mirror, in those eyes, every day and say “I want…..” whatever the five things are. Always keep the statement positive – do not use “I don’t want”. For example, you may say “I want to weigh 130 pounds, I want to be healthy, I want to feel more joy, I want to be more successful, I want to appreciate what I see in this mirror.” Once we get past the stage when we feel a little silly talking to our reflection, we find that just this simple exercise can empower us to achieve! During the day, we can look in our car vanity mirror, the workplace restroom mirror….anyplace where we can look through our eyes, into the windows of our soul and touch those things we want. The more we verbalize those wants, the faster those old tapes completely disappear and we find that looking in the mirror is not the negative it once was. In fact, we have learned the power of positive thinking. Now when we wonder “who is the fairest”, we can feel in our heart that we are worth the answer we get in return – “YOU ARE”.

Osteoporosis means “porous bones” and is a condition of the bones that can lead to an increased risk of fracture. It affects many people, particularly as they age. Thin Caucasian women and smokers are at increased risk for developing osteoporosis, although anyone can be afflicted. The best way to screen for osteoporosis is through a study called a bone density test. This test Dr. Jennifer Cook measures the density of your bone in several areas and compares it to standard results. If your test results are minimally abnormal, your doctor may recommend over the counter medications such as calcium and vitamin D. If they are very abnormal, prescriptive medications called bisphosphonates may be warranted. These can be given either orally or intravenously. If your bone is severely osteoporotic, you are at increased risk of developing fractures. The most common areas to break are your wrist, hip, and back. Many of these breaks require surgery to fix them. These surgeries can involve a hospital stay and extensive rehabilitation. So, the best option is prevention! If you smoke, stop now. If you are over the age of 65, talk to your primary doctor about whether or not you are at risk for osteoporosis and if a bone density test is needed. Stay active with both cardiovascular and weight bearing exercises. Be sure to get enough calcium and vitamin D in your diet. Taking care of your bones now will minimize your risk of fractures in the future.

s the summer gets hotter here in Florida, a few things happen: one, the mercury rises to about 120 degrees, families go on vacations, and the stock market generally takes a siesta. Typically, the summer months are not as healthy in terms of investment returns. Why this is so is anyone’s guess. However, what is the investor supposed to do? Perhaps we can draw some wisdom from the successful investors of the past. Benjamin Graham is widely recognized as the inventor of two basic investment disciplines, security analysis and value investing. In 1949 he published the famous book The Intelligent Investor; this has guided many highly successful investors over time. “The investor’s chief problem and even his worst enemy, is likely to be himself.” How true this is. We know, for instance, that we should buy low and sell high, but this doesn’t always occur due to human emotion and poor timing. He also said, “The individual investor should act consistently as an investor and not as a speculator.” You can’t predict the future, but instead you should base your decision on facts. Peter Lynch, who successfully ran the largest mutual fund in the world, Fidelity Magellan, said, “Know what you own and know why you own it.” Always do your research and periodically evaluate your portfolio moldings. A current financial guru, Dave Ramsay, was quoted saying, “Financial peace isn’t the acquisition of stuff, it’s learning to live on less than you make, so you can give money back and have money to invest. You can’t win till you do this.” If more of us practiced this principle, then we would not have credit cards, debt problems, bankruptcies, foreclosures, and other financial overextensions. Robert G. Allen was quoted as saying, “How many millionaires do you know who have become wealthy by investing in savings accounts? I rest my case.” Although this statement was made many years ago, it’s especially pertinent to today’s low interest environment. The extremely low

interest rate that savings, money markets, and CDs are yielding does not keep up with inflation. Your spending power is quickly eroded over the years. Warren Buffet is considered to be one of the most successful investors of all time. He is the second richest man in the United States and has successfully run his company “Berkshire Hathaway” for many years. He said, “We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.” Never chase the pack of the hot stock/ mutual fund of the day. Buffet is also a proponent of buying what he knows and understands. “Never invest in a business you can’t understand.” Also, “I never attempt to make money on the stock market, I buy on the assumptions they could close the market the next day and not reopen it for five years.” Another of his quotes says, “It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you will drift in that direction.” Warren Buffet is a believer in having wise advisors to help him make his decisions. One of my favorite quotes concerning investing and any decision in life is from Benjamin Franklin. “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Franklin reminded us to do our homework and analysis or have a trusted advisor help you. So as the summer heats up and we tend to travel, remember to keep your focus on your goals for your financial life. credit score is primarily based on credit report information typically sourced from credit bureaus. Credit scores can affect many aspects of your life, your ability to get a credit card, a mortgage and even a job. Credit can be tricky to understand.. How well do you understand what goes into your credit report and credit score? The following true and false statements may give you a better idea what your credit scoring is all about. Test your knowledge of credit reports and scores to see how much you know; 1. As soon as you pay off an overdue account, the late payments are removed from your credit report. False. Paying the balance of an overdue account is always a good idea. However, missed payments will still show up on your report because they are part of your credit history. Delinquencies of 30 to 180 days will stay on your report for seven years from the date of the missed payment. The good news is that older delinquencies gradually become less of a factor in your score. 2. Filing for bankruptcy will erase the blemishes on your credit report 35% and allow you to start from scratch. False. For people in severe financial distress, declaring bank30% ruptcy may be the only option. However, while a bankruptcy can erase your debts, it will not wipe clean your credit report. Bankruptcies will be noted on your credit report for seven to ten years, depending on the type of bankruptcy you file for. 3. You can request a copy of your own report without lowering your credit score. True. Checking your own credit report will not lower your score. In fact, it’s a good idea to monitor your credit file regularly to make sure that it is accurate. Go to www.annualcreditreport.com for a free credit report. 4. You only need to check your credit report with one of the three credit bureaus. False. While Equifax, TransUnion and Experian use similar formulas when calculating your credit score, each collects its data independently. Therefore, each bureau may have slightly different information in your file, and it’s a good idea to check your report with each of them. These scores can vary greatly from bureau to bureau! 5. Your income has no effect on your

credit score. True. 6. A good way of raising your credit score is to obtain several credit cards, even if you don’t plan to use them. False. Using a mix of credit accounts -- a mortgage, a car loan and a credit card, for example -- and making regular payments on all of them will help you establish a solid credit history. However, opening accounts you won’t use does nothing to build up a positive credit rating. It may even backfire as too much available credit can lower your score. You should only apply for credit cards that you genuinely need. 7. Your credit report and your spouse’s are, and remain, separate reports. True. 8. While it is not easy, achieving a perfect credit score of 850 is possible. True (I’ve yet to see an 850 score in 15 years of originating mortgages). 9. Unpaid library fines and traffic tickets can affect your credit score True. Because cities looking for revenue are sending these cases to collection agencies

Payments history 15% 10% 10%

Amounts owed Length of credit history New credit Types of credit used

What’s the big deal? No matter which scoring model lenders use, it pays to have a great credit score. Your credit scores effect whether you get credit or not, and how high your interest rate will be. A better score can lower your interest rate. The difference in the interest rates offered to a person with a score of 580 and a person with a 740 score can be thousands of dollars on a 30 year fixed rate mortgage. Paying bills on time and paying credit cards in full monthly are the single most important ways to maintaining a good credit score. Call me if you need advice on how you can increase your credit scores, if you need mortgage advice or information on the HARP 2 refinance program for underwater borrowers. Business Card Make An Impact?

our business card matters. It’s like a resume. It lets people know how you feel about yourself, your business and most importantly them. Your business card gives you an opportunity to make a stellar first and lasting impression. Here are a few ways to make sure you are making a memorable impact with your business card. 1. It represents you. Your Patricia Rossi business card is a visual reminder of your company and most importantly you. Make it visually appealing. Use high quality graphics that are appealing to the eye. Invest in a nice heavy card stock not printing paper thickness. You can get 4,997 cards for 49 cents. Just kidding! But you can buy cards for a minimal amount of money. So, no marked out phone numbers or emails… if your information changes invest in new cards. You are worth it and so is the recipient. Never present your cards like you are in the middle of NYC’s Times Square handing them out in a wonton manner. If you respect your business card, hand it with grace and respect. Then, other people will treat it in the same manner and hopefully keep it as a reminder to build a business relationship with you in the near future. Before heading out to a networking event, know where your cards are. Put them in a place that you can easily locate in a smooth, relaxed manner. You don’t want to appear to be breakdancing or putting out a fire by patting yourself down like your clothes are on fire in search of a card. Always have some cards with you. If you say you have forgotten your card while at a networking event, it might appear as if you aren’t credible andcompetent. If you want to quickly and easily convert business cards into contacts. Check outcardmunch.com and download the app. You will be able to snap a picture with the app, a business card is automatically converted into a contact. It will also show your LinkedIn profile.

Is It Better To Just Walk Away? Sometimes facing the situation head-on produces the best outcome SHORT SALE vs. FORECLOSURE FAQ Issue: My Credit Score Foreclosure: Score may be lowered anywhere from 250 to over 300 points, and will typically affect score for over 3 years. Foreclosure will remain as public record on a person’s credit history for 7 years or more. Short Sale: Score may be lowered as little as 50 points and the effect on credit may be as brief as 12-18 months. Only late payments will show on the credit report as there is no specific reporting item for “short sale”. In most cases a loan is typically reported as “paid in full, settled, or paid as negotiated”. Issue: Deficiency Judgment Foreclosure: In 100% of foreclosures, the bank has the right to pursue a deficiency judgment. In most cases a foreclosure later sold as an REO will result in a lower sales price and a higher possible deficiency judgment. Short Sale: In a successful short sale, it is possible to convince the lender to give up the right to pursue a deficiency judgment against the homeowner. Issue: Can I get a Mortgage in the Future? Foreclosure: A homeowner who loses a home to foreclosure is ineligible for a Fannie Mae backed mortgage for up to 7 years. In applying for a conventional mortgage, you will be asked if you have had a property foreclosed or done a deed-in-lieu in the last 7 years, which will affect future mortgage rates.

Homefront Realty www.PanacheVue.com

Short Sale: A homeowner who successfully closes a short sale will be eligible for a Fannie Mae backed mortgage within 2 years. A homeowner may apply for an FHA loan immediately if payments are current at the time of the short sale. If homeowner is late on payments, they may be eligible for an FHA loan after 3 years.

Issue: Current and Future Employment Foreclosure: Employers have the right and are actively checking the credit regularly of employees who are in sensitive positions. A foreclosure in many cases is grounds for immediate reassignment or termination. A foreclosure is one of the most detrimental credit items an ap-

With accurate information and guidance homeowners don’t have to walk away and have long term ramifications. Working with the bank by doing a short sale creates a win-win for all parties involved. And if you’re looking to add some extra sizzle to your looks to rival the high heat outdoors, this is the perfect time to incorporate this season’s hot color-blocking trend into your wardrobe. Sure, it may not be a new concept in the fashion world, but the color-blocking trend— the combining of three or more colors that both complement and support each other—is back with such a bang this season that you can’t overlook it. This summer designers like Donna Karan, Phillip Lim and Carolina Herrera have joined the (block) party. From crafting vibrant-colored garments that can be perfectly mixed and matched together to producing individual pieces and accessories that create the colorblock effect for you, they’ve embraced the tricolor trend in a big way this season. And if you’re looking for eye-catching examples of the color-block effect, just open up the latest issue of Us Weekly and OK! Magazine. This summer, style-savvy celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry and Jessica Alba have been snapped taking fashion-forward risks and experimenting with fun color combinations like hot pink, emerald green and tangerine. So if you’re ready to block out in sizzling style this summer, here are some ways to help you master the tri-color trend:

www.PanacheVue.com

Accessory to Style

Not one to “go bold or go home” when it comes to taking fashion risks? Well, you can still embrace the color-block trend without committing to a full outfit of three haute hues. From combining a few colors to your nail palette to wearing three colorful bangles or a color-blocked pair of shoes, you can still take small steps to stand out in style. And here’s an easy way to incorporate the trend into your makeup: Stila’s user-friendly eye shadow trio provides a base color, one for the crease and one that you can use as an eyeliner.

Cheat the System

If you’re hoping to integrate the color-block trend into your wardrobe without worrying about which hues to pair together, you’re in luck! Designers like Marc Jacobs and Alberta Ferretti have made it easy for you to look like a real fashionsta by creating individual pieces, like color-blocked dresses, that do all the work for you. Simply pick one that flatters your skin tone and personal style.

It’s All Complementary!

To create a harmonious look when colorblocking with separates, mix different hues of the same color – think turquoise, sky blue and navy or pale pink, bright pink and fuchsia. And, if you’re going with bolder colors, make sure to keep warmer tones like orange and red together. And make sure to go for a neutraltoned shoe and accessories to keep it simple.

Opposites Attract

If you’re ready to take your style up a notch, why not start mixing different shades together? Combinations like cobalt blue, yellow and orange or chocolate brown, pink and peach don’t just look great together, but they can help brighten a room. Just remember that hues opposite each other on the color wheel are the ones that usually complement each other best. No matter how you choose to incorporate this summer’s scorching triple-tint trend into your wardrobe, don’t be afraid to mix up your wardrobe with blocks of color and have fun with it.

Have you ever gone into someone’s home and all the pictures are hanging just below the ceiling line? Whether you’re hanging one large piece or a lot of small ones, determining the proper placement of your artwork can sometimes seem daunting. Frameworx offers this guide to help make the process a little bit easier and maybe even fun! • As a general rule, hang the artwork so that the center point of the piece or grouping is atapproximately eye level, which means about 60 inches up from the floor. This height is considered an average area for most people. Think of groupings as a single unit. For exSusan Harris ample, you may want to consider hanging art slightly lower in a dining room since you are sitting down when you are looking at it. • A great way to test an arrangement before putting hammer to nail is by laying everything out on a large piece of kraft paper on the floor. Move the pieces around until you have an arrangement that you like. This allows you to trace around each piece and mark the hanging points. Then, tape the paper to the wall and hammer in the nails. Remove the paper, and voila! • Art hung over a piece of furniture should not be wider than the width of the furniture, a general principle being that the art should be about 75% the width of the furniture. • A fireplace is always the focal point of a room. When hanging art over the fireplace, it’s a good idea to make the art grouping about the same size as the fireplace opening. Using one large piece or several small pieces that appear as one unit is a great solution.

ot long ago, making the eco-friendly choice meant compromise: settling for less than you wanted orpaying more than you should. Fortunately, those days are fading into memory. Today, there are manyways to make environmentally responsible lifestyle and product choices. A-1 Custom Cabinets is proudto offer responsible choices yet still provide the creativity, quality and value our customers expect. Most consumers are aware of the availability of sustainable fabrics, paint products with low VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds), and floor & wall coverings with recycled content. However, many are not aware of “green” products available for your kitchen and bath. For instance, countertops can bemanufactured in sustainable or recycled materials. A-1 Custom Cabinets has beautiful countertopselections in bamboo (sustainable), recycled glass, and solid surface made with 40% recycled content.

An earth-friendly choice available for cabinetry is Lyptus. This wood is carefully managed for sustainability. It’s fast-growing and yet has the hardness of maple, the grain of mahogany and the warmth of cherry. Lyptus is a naturally-occurring hybrid of eucalyptus which can be harvested in as little as 15 years (vs. 50 to 100 years for traditional hardwoods). It is grown on deforested land reserves that are reclaimed from the Rain Forest and specially maintained to preserve the balance of the ecosystem. Lyptus has a naturally deep, warm coloration that accepts a variety of finishes and a lovely grain pattern that ranges from straight fine patterns, to burls, to faint tiger striping. To promote “green” awareness, A-1 Custom Cabinets is offering Panache readers a rebate on any Lyptus cabinetry purchased in July or August. Be sure to mention the “Eco-Friendly Home Extravaganza.”

Your Window to the World

D

rape it, shutter it, blind it, shade it, some combination of these options or just enjoy the view? That is the question when contemplating a window treatment. Don’t you just love the expression “window treatment”… as if the window has been through triage and needs help! As you may suspect, that’s not always true. If you have a beautiful view, sometimes the last thing you want to do is take attention away from what lies beyond. And, if privacy is not a requisite, that is exactly what I recommend. Sun control can be achieved with solar films or exterior awnings and extremely plain or unsightly windows can be painted or trimmed out leaving you to enjoy the great outdoors. In addition to creating a sense of space and bringing nature indoors, you have the added benefit of all of that natural light. When you need privacy at times but still love the view, the best approach is to employ a window dressing that completely clears the window when not in use and closely matches the wall color. This enables it to somewhat disappear from consideration, therefore not stopping your eye at the window. If you have a room that needs warmth and interest of fabric, noise absorption or simply more eye catching detail, a drapery or curtain design can provide any and all of that. Plus cornices and lambrequins never go out of style and can be covered in fabric, wall paper, natural woods, bamboo, metals and just about any other material you might imagine. Shutters are extremely functional since they can direct the view, provide light control, close for total privacy or open completely. If you live in an environment with tons of humidity like Florida, you might consider the polywood shutter products as an alternative to wood. 42

PANACHE VUE’

They are hard to distinguish from one another, so you are not sacrificing appearance over function and you may experience a savings as well. Probably the only drawback to shutters is the dusting chore, but at least you avoid the dry cleaning associated with fabrics.

Cheryl Perotti Woven woods are a beautiful alternative to consider since they come in so many finishes, styles and materials. They can roll, fold, or draw depending on your preference and window dimension and can range from room darkening to light filtering. You also have the option of top down or bottom up to better control light and view. The newest innovations include shades and verticals in materials that offer privacy, view, and sun control or total sunblock with all of the varieties of applications, textures, and subtle colors you could imagine. With the advent of volume ceilings in so

many new homes, mechanized tracks have been perfected for most all window dressings and can be operated with a simple remote control. They can also be set on timers (like most everything else in our lives) to open and close on a pre-set schedule. One of my personal favorites for windows is leaded glass. Beveled, , obscure, colored, etched…the types of glass are endless as are the patterns and pictures that can be rendered in this timeless expression of art. Plus, they can be installed or simply suspended within the frame. And they can be new creations that reflect your personal style or interests, or they can add a touch of antiquity when selected from the many salvaged pieces available. If you are renting or leasing a space with windows that need “treatment”, there are many readymade solutions out there in the home improvement stores that are inexpensive alternatives to the custom covering. Draperies, curtains and shades can often be cut down to accommodate differing window sizes and travel with you when you eventually move on. Top treatments, side panels and moldings can be added to whatever window privatization is provided to personalize the windows to your style at very little cost. Just get permission from the owners before you start adding your own touch. Your ultimate window covering or treatment will ultimately be determined by architectural requirements, budget, and style. Whatever you choose, if it is custom it is costly, so do your research, get several bids, and ask for referrals. Cheryl Turner Perotti Fountainhead Design Consulting

the tampa bay medium

Just A Great Medium Jennifer Rae Panache: Who and what are your “peeps”? Jennifer Rae: My peeps are my spirit guides and have been with me since birth. They are the most important people in my life and I always trust them. Panache: Are they like angels? Jennifer Rae: They are my angels and my entourage. They access energy; good, bad and ugly. Each and every one of them plays a different role. Panache: How many “peeps” do you have and are they male, female or both? Jennifer Rae: I feel like I have three, and one of them is always with me. They are energy, more male than female. They transform into whatever energy I am feeling. I have also seen them in a human-like form. Panache: Were you scared the first time they were around you? Jennifer Rae: OMG, very much so! My “peeps” first came out when my parents were going through a divorce. I was only about twelve or thirteen and it came as a shock to me because they never fought. This was a very difficult time in my life, I just didn’t understand. My “peeps’ were very humanlike when they first appeared;

they were there to console me. Panache: Is your power hereditary and has it been passed down to your three children? Jennifer Rae: Yes and yes. The best way for me to explain this is like this. I’m like a computer or a laptop. I incarnated into this life with the highest ram, I ascended, I upgraded. I constantly get more and more powerful. My manifestation skills are incredible and unbelievable. I say the word, things happen! All three of my children possess the gift, including my eldest son who is autistic. Panache: Have you ever scared anyone with your power or gift? Jennifer Rae: Yes. I’ve had people look at me and say I was doing the devil’s work. Panache: What exactly is a Psychic Medium? Jennifer Rae: I communicate with the dead. Panache: What is the #1 question people ask you? Jennifer Rae: How do you do it and are they with you when you don’t want them with you? Sometimes, it’s not easy for me. They invade my space, they are ALWAYS with me! Panache: Are you able to give readings without seeing someone face to face? Jennifer Rae: Yes, it’s actually easier for me. I read energy. Panache: What is one thing you would love to do with your gift that you have not done thus far? Jennifer Rae: I wish I could teach it. To teach the wisdom that I have learned.

Dear Jennifer, I recently read the article in Panache and was wondering if you could possibly help me. It showed that you have a wonderful gift ~ and also showed you have the compassion and spiritualism that you have. I do believe that some people have a special “sense”....Is it possible that you can help me in a reading for what you see in my near future? I hope you can provide some help for me with your wonderful insight and ability to guide me. Sincerely, Ava B. Dear Ava, First, I would like to thank you for writing in. In regards to your near future, I would need you to be a bit more specific; love, career, money or all three? What my “peeps” are picking up from your email is this; they are telling me you need to focus more on your career and money sector of your life, and then love will come. I feel that at this time in your life, you are at a crossroads of who you believe you are and afraid to make changes. You are afraid to step forward in fear of making a mistake. This is not how the power of the universe works. Energy creates energy. Good energy brings good energy and bad energy brings bad energy, very simple. If you do not place one foot in front of the other, you will not start walking. You have two females whose energy is all around you, they are very significant in your life which tells me they’re in your path for a reason. All be it good or bad, they are there to teach you valuable lessons. I do not feel the journey you are on is a negative one, but is only of good grace. Please do not put fear into your life because it stifles its growth and paralyzes you as you walk your path. I hope I was able to help you be clearer on some things in your life and have you gain a better understanding of what is going on right now for you. I also hope to meet you someday soon, face to face.

Forum Introduces

Civil Liberty Philosophies Of Candidates For Sheriff By Laurie Talerico

E

lection season is upon us and the most fiercely contested political race for the most important elected position in Pinellas County is well underway. The fifth Sheriff’s candidate forum, held the evening of May 29th in Clearwater, was hosted by the Libertarian Party of Florida. While previous forums have focused on the ever increasing budget cuts, internal affairs and current scandals surrounding the sheriff’s office, this forum took a sophisticated look at the candidates’ positions on the rights and civil liberties of the citizens they would serve. Four of the five candidates for sheriff participated in the forum: Everett Rice, Republican, former sheriff from 1988 – 2004, Bob Gualtieri, Republican, current interim sheriff appointed by the governor, Scott Swope, Democrat, attorney, and Greg Pound, Constitutional Party of Florida. Randy Heine, Democrat, was not in attendance. In their opening statements, the candidates revealed their diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Everett Rice spent four years as a merchant marine. At the age of 23, he joined the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office where he dedicated 33 years of his life to serving the citizens of Pinellas County. He was promoted and served in every rank at the sheriff’s office. Rice earned a law degree and in 1988, the voters elected Rice as sheriff by a 2:1 margin, defeating the incumbent. He restored credibility to the agency and implemented much of the technology still employed by the sheriff’s office today. As sheriff, Rice merged six police departments, saving tax payers millions of dollars. In his opening statements, Bob Gualtieri stated that he served 20 years at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, starting as a detention deputy, and he has worked a “variety of positions.” He attended law school and worked in private practice. Gualtieri returned to the sheriff’s office as General Counsel and then he served as Chief Deputy, where he ran the day-to-day operations of the agency. With the current budget cut48

backs, arrests are up 20%. Scott Swope, who served as a deputy at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office from 1988 – 1994, believes that the sheriff’s office is mismanaged and that public safety should be top priority. He elaborated on a case where the sheriff’s office has spent time and resources investigating internet gambling cafes. He believes that since citizens go to dog tracks and other venues for gambling, and that since this is not a public safety concern, it should not be a focus of sheriff’s office time and resources. Another

Laurie Talerico bone of contention for Swope was the two year investigation that included the surveillance of a local hydroponics business. Swope believes that the sheriff’s office needs new priorities. The candidate making a second run for sheriff is Greg Pound who sees corruption and believes the country is in trouble. He wants to get back to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Under Title V, Chapter 30 of the Florida Statutes, the sheriff must preserve the peace, and provide law enforcement for the citizens, but, as a constitutional officer, where should the sheriff stand on civil liberties? Two of the many issues discussed are of special in-

terest to many Pinellas county citizens. The Real ID Act requires Floridians to provide multiple forms of identification and documentation when renewing a driver license to comply with national ID requirements, even if they’ve had their driver license for decades. Some citizens believe this violates their fourth amendment rights. Rice stated, “This presents a rub between a citizen’s privilege to drive and the Federal legislation. Hopefully this will go to court.” Gualtieri said, “People must drive with a valid driver license and we must work within the laws and the constitution.” Swope thinks anyone who chooses not to renew their driver license on a constitutional basis should not receive a traffic citation for driving without a valid license. Pound added that big brother is breathing down everyone’s back and the country is in trouble. DUI checkpoints are omnipresent, particularly around holiday weekends. The candidates were asked if they would continue to use DUI checkpoints if elected. Rice stated, “I will review the procedures. We need to enforce the DUI law . . . but we need to make sure the DUI checkpoints are not being used as a pretext for illegal searches or fishing expeditions.” Gualtieri commented that the DUI checkpoints are effective for public safety and they are a “minimally intrusive way to get drunks off the streets.” Swope stated he will not have DUI checkpoints and believes they are unconstitutional. “DUI enforcement needs to be done, but when done at the expense of pulling 300 drivers off the road, that’s unconstitutional.” Pound believes that the checkpoints serve only to look for probable cause and result in illegal searches and seizures. Critical election dates to remember are the Primary election held August 14, 2012 and the General election, November 6, 2012. For additional information, see the Supervisor of Elections website, www.votepinellas. com. aguar has announced the introduction of a all-new Jaguar model called the F-Type. The F-Type is based off the hugely successful concept CX-16 from 2011. The core appeal of Jaguar automobiles is their sporting heart and leading expertise in aluminum construction. Ian Hoblan, Jaguar’s Vehicle Line Director said: “The engineering development of the F-Type has focused on delivering a heightened level of dynamic driving reward. We are excited about our progress to date and are looking forward to soon being able to demonstrate what we have achieved.” All the Jaguar models; the XF, the XJ, and the XK all offer wonderfully fun and accurate driving to the driver. Passengers are bathed in luxurious surroundings with fine leather and wood veneer’s. They have something really special over there in the British Midlands and it is all heading to the USA! I have written before about the thrills in driving cars. I have driven them all from Bughatti to F-650 and everything in between. The one common denominator for me when I experience a new car I have never experienced before is joy. Joy in driving dynamics, in coachwork (interiors) and of course does its design stir the soul. Now, this joy of course is different for everyone. I enjoy manufacturers who

take risks. I am fortunate to represent to such manufacturers in Fisker and Jaguar. Jaguar makes no ploy at the establishment. It carves its own path in design, function, coachwork and performance. The joy with Jaguar automobiles is widespread which affords us the confidence that our clients will also find their joy within Jaguar. Ian Callum, Director of design for Jaguar says Jaguar cars are pure in both their purpose and form. From C-Type on through to the modern era Jaguars have always delivered a “driver’s car”. The F-Type will deliver this same purpose and more. This is the first pure sports car from jaguar in many years. The F-Type is coming and will be available in mid2013. Jaguar of Tampa is accepting pre-order deposits now. Jaguar of Tampa was recently awarded the prestigious “Pride of Jaguar” award for being one of the top 16 dealers in the country. Jaguar Cars USA was just awarded J.D. Powers recognition for the #2 in quality. Since 2009 Jaguar has won numerous awards for their efforts in delivering joy to its owners. It is time for you to see, feel and experience them for yourself. Jaguar of Tampa is even willing to bring the jungle to you and share our pride. Just call 813-579-2309 for an appointment.

s daylight hours lengthen and the kids are being packed up for day camp instead of school, it can only mean one thing: summertime! Warmer weather means not just shedding sweaters from our wardrobe, but the chance to shed a few unhealthy habits too. I’ve got a few summer-inspired tips for keeping your body healthy.

cally modified organisms. A GMO has genetic material from unrelated organisms – like a fish gene in a tomato (um, weird). In theory, GMO’s breed hardier plants by helping them resist drought and pests. But what GMO’s do to humans over a long period of time is not known. Wait until you know the facts before you buy into the fads.

Follow Your Mother (Nature’s) Advice

Avoid These for a Healthy Summer

Mama Nature’s natural tendency come summer is to pull all the animals out of hibernation – and that includes you. As sunbathing becomes part of your daily routine, you’ll notice a natural aversion to dense and heavy foods, like stews, pot roasts, and casseroles. Trade in those winter-reminders with lots of the easily accessible fruits and veggies. Those bright berries and lush greens expedite our bodies ability to detoxify, naturally making us feel cool in the heat. Curious as to what summer fruits and vegetables you’ll find to fill your plate? Apricots, avocados, basil, beets, blueberries, mango, peaches, plums, squash and tomatoes are just a few natural treats that will be plentiful. Imagine a simple lunch each day of fresh basil leaves and heirloom tomatoes drizzled in olive oil. Perfection. Add a sprinkle of goat cheese for a more fanciful fare.

Summer Additions

Water, water, water: staying hydrated come summertime is vital to your health and wellbeing. Remember, your body is a graceful, gorgeous temple…that also houses more water than anything else. Replenishing yourself frequently will help keep your energy high, your spirits higher, and even allow you to sleep better at night. GMO-Free: look for foods that are not geneti-

Faux wheat: yes, pure wheat and whole grains can be good for you (if you’re not gluten intolerant). But not everything labeled as “wheat” is truly made from wheat. In fact, wheat bread is generally made from white flour, and thus the same as eating Wonderbread. Anything can be labeled as wheat if the flour used comes from the wheat plant. Check your label for the ingredients list and if it contains the words “wheat flour” or anything “enriched” or “blanched” pass over it. Instead go for a 100% whole -grain like Ezekiel or Sunflower bread, and look for the terms “100% pure” and “organic whole grains.” Fat Free: no, really. Anything fat free is to be avoided, unless it’s naturally made so. If fat is removed, so is flavor…which means food manufacturers added artificial ingredients, high fructose corn syrup, or sugar to make it taste decent. The exception here is natural fats, or “good fats” as they’re often called. Nosh on avocados or nuts guilt free.

Most Importantly, Have Fun

Summer is a time for playing outside and embracing your inner child. Enjoy what the sunshine has to offer (with sunscreen of course!) and occasionally let yourself enjoy a cup of frozen yogurt (I recommend Pink Berry) or a dollop of Greek yogurt – those are good fats too, when used sparingly. Y

ou may have noticed your Facebook news feed has a new theme: summer vacation. Everyone from your distant cousin to your BFF are posting envy-inducing status updates and photos of their fun in the sun. It’s time you stop living vicariously through social media, and update your own status to: Having a Blast. Whether you’re single and looking to mingle, hoping for the most romantic date this side of the Mississippi, or want to thrill your spouse and kids, I’ve got ideas to get you off of your computer and out into the summer heat. Flying Solo at Atlantis Paradise Island Resort

Tammy Levent CEO of Elite Travel Tammy@EliteTravelGroup.net www.EliteTravelGroup.net An American Express Agency

Being single on vacation shouldn’t make you want to hide under your oversized sunglasses and beach-hat (though doing so would make you look wildly mysterious). Grab a few fabulous friends for a holiday at Atlantis Paradise Island Resort, where you may arrive with a “single” relationship status but leave with “it’s complicated.” On the beach of Nassau in the Bahamas, this sprawling mega-resort is Vegas meets a water themepark, and ensures you’re never lacking for ways to let of steam. Floating along the endless lazy river, lounging by one of the 20 unique swimming areas, or shooting down thrilling high-speed water slides – you’ll feel like you’ve entered a world built for your pleasure. And you haven’t even seen Mandara Spa yet (or the duty-free shops). With enough bars to make a montage of fuzzy memories, and the adults-only Cain at the Cove pool complete with its private cabanas, one week here could turn into your own sexy scavenger hunt. A Sweetheart’s Desire at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort If you’ve gone from posting “Someday my prince will come” to “in a relationship” you’ll love spending a few magical summer days at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort. Taking a boat to the waterfront resort from Downtown Disney, you’ll pass elegant mansions and massive oaks covered in Spanish Moss, setting the

tone of a slower-paced and charming American South. Try the laidback lounges at Port Orleans, or amble to the Disney Port Orleans French Quarter for a more jazz-infused experience. Date night at Disney might include a romantic carriage ride over cobblestoned paths, a candlelit dinner of Southern specialties by the river, and – fireworks in the bedroom. I’m not making promises about your performance, but the headboards of the Royal Guest Rooms at Port Orleans Resort glitter with fiberoptic lights that create your own personal “fireworks” display. A Menagerie for the Family – SeaWorld Imagine this photo on your Facebook wall: your tyke or teen posed with a real dolphin. They’ll have automatic bragging rights when they get back to school. SeaWorld mixes these magical animal moments with enough action to satisfy a brood of adrenaline junkies (yes, that’s an enormous rollercoaster and yes, you’re going on it). Hit rides like the 60 mph Cheetah Hunt and the loop-de-looping Kumba, or treat animal-lovers to a trip into the wild on Rhino Rally and see the 500 different types of feathered friends at Bird Gardens. Another bonus is that this kid-friendly park offers wristbands so parents can write contact info in case you get separated. Ready to Roll Don’t be surprised if after your trip is said and done, Facebook friends are popping out of the woodwork to ask for tips and suggestions. If you want to really make your circle of friends jealous – live-Tweet the highlights of your amazing summer vacation. Better yet, don’t. Just enjoy it.
