DO YOU REALLY NEED BACK OR NECK SURGERY?

M

ore than 465,000 spinal fusions were performed in the United States in 2011. It is estimated that patients spent over $200 million on those surgeries. The United States leads the world in spinal fusions and surgeries. In fact, on average, up to 4 times more surgeries than any other nation, BUT DID ALL OF THESE PATIENTS REALLY NEED SURGERY?? As chiropractors in the Tampa Bay area for over 14 years, Dr. Carl Conforti and his team of doctors have been fighting to reduce those numbers and provide safe, surgery free options for patients who truly want to be well and avoid the pain shots and surgeries.

WHAT IS THE DRX9000?

The DRX9000 is a state of the art machine that allows us to perform spinal decompression in the comfort of our offices.

WHAT KIND OF CONDITIONS DO YOU TREAT WITH THE SPINAL DECOMPRESSION? The DRX9000 allows us to treat quite a few conditions. We have both neck and back decompression, so we treat for neck pain, sciatic DRX9000

pain, lower back pain, auto injuries, sports injuries, bulging and herniated discs, and many other injuries.

HOW DO YOU DETERMINE IF SOMEONE IS A CANDIDATE FOR YOUR TREATMENT?

In our candidate assessment, we review MRI’s, x-rays, and we utilize our computerized spinal exam (EMG) to evaluate the problem. After reviewing all of the tests, we discuss medical history and the complexity of the issues.

ONCE YOU DETERMINE THAT SOMEONE IS A CANDIDATE WHAT CAN THEY EXPECT NEXT?

Once we have determined that someone is a candidate for the spinal decompressions treatment, we lay out a treatment plan and start treatment as soon as possible. Many times we can start the patient that same week, and sometimes that same day. With the treatment plan in mind, we start the spinal decompression and therapies to ensure optimal results.

DO THE TREATMENTS HURT?

No, not at all. In fact, many of our patients fall asleep during treatment. Others choose to read books and listen to music. It is actually a very

relaxing treatment.

WHAT IS YOUR SUCCESS RATE WITH THE TREATMENT?

As opposed to traditional surgery, which is about 50% success, our treatment process is successful over 80% of the time. Our careful attention to specific needs and our full in office treatment process allows our patients to be back enjoying their lives pain free and full of life!

COMPLIMENTARY CONSULTATION AND CANDIDATE ASSESSMENT (A $295 VALUE) In this consultation you will receive a consultation, exam, and x-rays (if necessary). Dr. Conforti and his team of doctors will explain their recommendations for your treatment plan and their plan to eliminate your pain, burning, restlessness, and altered nerve function! Call the office nearest you today to schedule your consultation. Offer expires 10-15-14

THE O-SHOT REVOLUTION

N

early half of all women have difficulty achieving orgasm. It’s amazing to me that there are so many products and procedures available to treat sexual dysfunction in men and precious little help for ladies. Well, now there finally is something that works and works well in over 85% of patients – Platelet Rich Plasma. Age, childbirth, and hormonal changes cause thinning and shrinkage of the tissues within the vagina that are most responsible for orgasm. Now Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can rejuvenate, strengthen and sensitize these tissues so that you can enjoy a healthy sexual response. The PRP O-Shot can also improve natural vaginal lubrication and decrease discomfort associated with intercourse. Female Orgasm Disorder is difficulty or inability for a woman to achieve orgasm with a normal amount of stimulation. In some ladies, it can mean that more vigorous and more prolonged stimulation is

8

PANACHE VUE’

needed to achieve orgasm, but in others, orgasm may be nearly impossible. Female Orgasm Disorder can interfere with feelings of intimacy and sexual satisfaction. This condition is not often discussed in the open but it is extremely common and now finally it can be treated easily, quickly and painlessly. This revolutionary new treatment is the PRP O-Shot. The “magic medicine” in the PRP O-Shot is your own plasma and your own platelets – the same ingredients used to rejuvenate the face (the Vampire Facial®), erase scars, and nourish joints and tendons. Here’s how it’s done: We draw a small tube of your own blood and then separate out the platelets and the plasma – the PRP. Your plasma is already loaded with growth factors and stem cells but we also “activate” your platelets so that they send out signals that attract even more of your own stem cells to the area. These stem cells have the unique ability to transform themselves into any other tissue including muscle, nerves, lubricating glands and erectile tissue. We thoroughly numb the area with topical cream and a little ice and then inject the PRP into the exact spots to rejuvenate, strengthen and sensitize the tissues. This sounds like it could be painful but most ladies report that they don’t even feel a thing. The injection only takes a few seconds and the whole procedure from walk-in to walkout is only about 20 minutes. There is no “down time”. You can return to your normal activities immediately. Within a few days or weeks after the O-Shot, most women find that lubrication comes more easily and that relations are more comfortable and less likely to be painful. Best of all, most women find orgasm much easier to achieve and find themselves enjoying intimacy far more than ever before. A wonderful side effect of the O-Shot is its effect on women with stress incontinence. Many women find that they lose a little urine when they cough, sneeze or lift a heavy object. After the O-Shot, many women with stress incontinence find it much easier to maintain control of their bladder. Some women truly need surgery to correct incontinence issues but quite a few find that the increased strength and fullness afforded by the O-Shot is all the help they need. Understand that this is not the infamous “G-Spot” injection. More and more now,

G-Spot injections with fillers are being criticized for being imprecise, ineffective and a possible cause of granulomas and foreign body reactions. With the O-Shot, there’s no need for a speculum or “mapping” or self stimulation. And best of all, no fillers are used at all. The PRP 0-Shot is entirely composed of your own platelets, your own plasma and your own stem cells - all completely natural. It’s vitally important for your platelets to be in the best possible shape to do their job, so we recommend that you strictly avoid anti-coagulants, aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (like motrin, advil, aleve, and related medications) for two full weeks before and after the PRP OShot. Please consult your doctor if you are supposed to take any of these meds. Nicotine products decrease oxygen supply to the platelets and should also be avoided. At Red Bamboo Medi Spa, we have had experience with PRP since 2010. We have used PRP in our practice to rejuvenate skin, soften scars, soothe inflamed tendons, strengthen rotator cuffs, improve the sensitivity of nipples after breast enhancement, and repair defects from over-zealous liposuction. We are one of the few practices in this area certified by the American Cosmetic Cellular Medicine Association to perform the O-Shot. If you have difficulty achieving orgasm, if you desire more natural lubrication, or if you lose a little bladder control when you cough or sneeze, don’t you owe it to yourself to find out if a simple, quick and painless procedure can restore your confidence, your control and your enjoyment of intimate relations? Call us at 727-726-6100 for a consultation. Dr. Ordon from THE DOCTORS congratulates Dr. Toscano on winning the Best Aesthetic Practice Award

HEALTH

DOES SPENDING MONEY MAKE YOU HEALTHY? 10

PANACHE VUE’

WE CURRENTLY HAVE SICK CARE, NOT HEALTH CARE

Last year Americans spent $2.8 trillion on healthcare. That is around $8,000 per person. So does this mean that we are all healthy and living well? Absolutely NOT! In fact, we lead the world in heart disease, obesity, and cancer. Astonishingly, 5 out of 6 Americans will be diagnosed with either heart disease or cancer. If we were spending the most money in healthcare and had the healthiest people, maybe it would be worth it. But we are spending the most money AND have the unhealthiest people. In a study by the Journal of the American Medical Association, of 37 different developed countries the United States ranked 37th (dead last) in terms of overall health of the population.

SO WHERE ARE WE SPENDING ALL OF THIS MONEY?

When we are sick or in pain, we go to the doctor. We get prescriptions to help cure and prevent illness and pain. What do we do when that medication has a side effect or no longer works? We go back and get more medications for the next side effect. Americans take up 5% of the world’s population, yet we consume 85% of the world’s medications. You would think that if drugs make you healthy then we would be the healthiest nation, and that is far from the truth. We had 1.1 million people die last year because of drugs and these are not street drugs like heroin or other illegal drugs. These are prescription drugs that were prescribed for the right condition, the right amount, the right time. Prescriptions are not the only culprit,

a large amount of that money is spent in nursing homes and cancer treatment centers. We have so many sick and ailing people in our population that we are seeing more and more long-term nursing facilities. People may be living longer, but we are not living better.

TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR HEALTH

A lot of people believe that genetics are to blame for the disease we see in our society today, but only 2-5% of degenerative illnesses are actually caused by genetics. So that leaves 95-98% of disease that is caused by lifestyle. The foods we eat, the drinks we drink, and the habits we live are the main cause of the increase in disease. Our offices are focused on HEALTH care. We recognize that health is not just about what you eat and whether or not you exercise. Our offices implement maximized mind, maximized nutrition, maximized nerve supply, maximized oxygen and lean muscle. We personalize each care plan and work with our patients to establish health and wellness goals that create a healthy lifestyle that maximizes each patients’ quality of life.

BUT WHAT TRULY SETS US APART FROM ALL OTHER WELLNESS CLINICS It is our dedication to whole health well-

ness. Our patients are not just adjusted and sent on their way. We spend time focusing on spinal CORRECTION not just spinal alignment. By providing our patients with in office and at home stretching, strengthening, and lifestyle changes, our patients are the healthiest they can possibly be without introducing toxins. It is truly about balance and focus on health.

WHAT DOES CORRECTIVE CARE MEAN? If your spine and Central Nervous System are “abnormal,” there is a need for corrective chiropractic care. This type of care will restore “normal” spinal position and alignment. By properly restoring normal curves to the spine and aligning the vertebrae, it will eliminate interferences allowing your body to function and heal “normally.” This optimizes your chance to live at 100% of your body’s peak performance. A healthy spine will allow your body to express a normal body temperature, a normal blood pressure, and other measureable norms for the spine itself. Much like braces straighten teeth, it is our aim to restore the proper alignment of your spine. Recent research allows us to now know the measurements and proper alignment of your spine. There is a normal body temperature, a normal blood pressure, and there are measureable norms for the spine. We take the necessary steps to restore the regions of abnormal alignment to nor-

mal through whole health wellness. Take the next step and allow your body to function at 100% of peak performance.

TAKE THE CHALLENGE

Larry & Debbie Lieberman, D.D.S.

R

ecently on a hot afternoon while visiting with friends I got the challenge. Would I take on the ice bucket for ALS? Without hesitation I accepted the challenge in memory of my friend’s brother, Chuck Rash. Yes, a cold ice Bucket did feel great in the hot afternoon sun, but more important it felt great to support ALS and pass on the challenge to my 3 sons. This challenge has given so many of us a chance to make a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS. I feel so lucky to have chosen a profession that allows me to

use my knowledge and skills to enhance the lives of so many people and the ability togive back to those in need. One of the most rewarding aspects of being in the dental profession is the chance to make a difference in someone’s life. Whether it’s giving someone back their confidence through a new smile or simply letting someone know that their health is important and that we care about them. It makes no difference what profession you are in, there is no greater feeling than helping someone in need and giving back. The expression, “you get far more than you give” really is quite true! Several years ago a colleague of mine asked me and another dentist to help create a dental clinic for underserved and low income adults. Since the creation of Gulf Coast Dental Outreach hundreds of indviduals have been given hope and dental care. Seeing the smiles of those we have helped and volunteering with many other dentisits in our community has been a highlight in my life! Last year after reading about a young woman brutally attacked in a domestic

violence incident, myself and several other dentists began treatment to help restore this woman’s smile and self esteem. After being stabbed 32 times, it has been a joy helping Melissa get back joy in her life. Now an advocate for The Haven, Melissa says she is “thankful and grateful for all of the doctors who helped to rebuild her smile and her life.” Giving back is a family affair. My wife, Debbie has a passion for children. She regularly mentors young, at risk girls and has devoted most of her energy to the Pace Center for Girls. The reward of giving girls a positive role model is a wonderful result of all the time she spends with them. I challenge you to not only take the bucket challenge but come up with your own. Whether it’s through your religious organization, place of business, professional organization or on your own, I urge you to consider giving back. My best wishes for a healthy and happy year. BEAUTY

SPOTLIGHT BY: VALERIE KELLEY

I

f you had to guess which signs of aging bother most women, chances are you’d pick wrinkles. And you would be correct. But there’s another aging giveaway which bothers women just as much: dark spots. These small dark patches — known technically as hyperpigmentation — are caused by over-production of melanin, the brown pigment within the skin, brought about by long-term exposure to ultraviolet light. The result, of course, is that a full-blown beauty industry has sprung up around them. A myriad of products now exist that are expressly designed to reverse the damage, remove, and prevent dark spots. So, where does one begin? According to Dana Martinez, owner of South Tampa’s Lecada Medical Artistry, hyperpigmentation can be a challenging condition. The good news is there are potent treatments available to remedy the situation. In-office chemical peels are the quickest and most effective course of action. Martinez favors ViPeel’s quarterly system of peels which result in a quick, non-aggressive shedding of the surface layers of the skin. “It’s a great alternative to laser that works well on all complexions, especially dark or olive skin tones,” she says. “The exfoliation helps lift away accumulated dead cells which hold excess melanin.” If peeling isn’t your thing, all skin types can try Fraxel Laser to specifically target pigmentation and sun damage, helping break up stubborn spots by creating microscopic wounds at the dermal layer. Typically, skin will have a pinkish tone for 3-5 days, then turn darker for 7-10 days. Flaking may occur as new skin replaces dead tissue. A series of 3-5 treatments, spaced a month apart is generally recommended for an amazing result. More recently, Martinez and her team have seen incredible results with Collagen Induction Therapy. C.I.T., or microneedling, works to initiate an all-natural

repair process within the skin’s deepest layers, and is the only skin rejuvenation treatment to target and regulate 3 key skin cells (keratinocyte, melanocyte and fibroblast) without compromising the integrity of the epidermis. Your skin starts improving from the very first treatment and the results continue in the deep layers of the skin for over a year after your treatment. Last, but not least, the much-maligned hydroquinone, one of the oldest treatments for skin lightening and the ingredient reportedly responsible for Michael Jackson’s “bleached” look, is actually okay in small amounts. Hydroquinone is available in 2% formulations over-the-counter or 4% by prescription and is extremely effective at blocking the pathway for melanin. New to the market is a prescription-only melasma cream by Trinity Medical Pharmacy that combines Hydroquinone and Tretinoin with a groundbreaking technology that delivers faster, more visible results. Since the

BEFORE

AFTER

cream is compounded at the time of order, it has no preservatives and is paraben-free; as a prescription, it’s covered by many insurances. Although, treatment is an essential part of reducing and correcting the visual appearance of hyperpigmentation, the importance of sunscreen cannot be overstated. Exposure to sunlight automatically stimulates the formation of new melanin. Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen, one with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, every day--yes, even on cloudy days! With a regimen that works and adequate sun protection you can prevent your discoloration from ever returning. Contact Lecada Medical Artistry for a complimentary consultation on safe, effective methods to remove hyperpigmentation and prevent its return. Their expert staff is waiting for your call at 813.874.2332. Lecada is conveniently located in South Tampa at 3710 West Azeele Street, Tampa 33609.

e rush around all year worrying about everyone around us and we all have that tendency to forget about an important person in our lives, ourselves. The craziness of summer, the vacations, the planning of possible summer camp, entertainment of “the troops” while they are home all day is finally over. The mad rush for school clothes, transportation to school and after school activities has come to an end. And we wonder where the summer went. It’s now time to stop and chill out and put our lives back in perspective. Have you thought of what it is that will make YOU happy? Maybe it’s that new hairstyle you have been meaning to get or that special outfit that calls your

It’s time to think of you and prioritize, prioritize, prioritize. Many of us only consider improving our smiles as being selfish and being “it’s all about me” but that’s not all true. S

ince acquiring the contemporary art collection from the former Gulf Coast Museum of Art, LRMA has presented an annual exhibition that explores themes and concepts relevant to artists today. This fall, Uncertain Landscape: Victoria Block and Alain Salesse and Disappearing Landscape: Janos Enyedi each share a message of subjective landscapes based on real or imaginary observations. Block and Salesse explore personal landscapes in a variety of media. For Block, large impressionistic paintings, accompanied by drawings, ceramic installations and mixed media pieces create a visual interplay that conjures up associations and memory. For Salesse, sculpture and technology synthesize in large ceramic egg forms that explore tactile realities. These fabricated, self-contained worlds convey an inner vision that require interaction to activate the imagination.

Janos Enyedi (1947-2011) was a nationally known sculptor whose meticulous recreations of factories and buildings in America’s rust belt bring a sense of dignity to these decaying structures. Enyedi, who lived and worked in the Washington, DC, area for over two decades, moved to St. Petersburg’s rapidly expanding Warehouse Arts District in 2010. He left a large body of work before his untimely death in 2011, including metal sculpture, large-format digital photography and industrial vignettes (referred to as threedimensional paintings).

IN BLACK AND WHITE: DRAWINGS BY ABRAHAM RATTNER Through August 2015

Over the next year, LRMA will present a special exhibition of more than 40 drawings, sketches and studies that document Abraham Rattner’s artistic and humanist themes. Many of these drawings have never been shown before and demonstrate Rattner’s extraordinary talents as a draftsman.

THE MYTH OF CALORIES

In Versus Calories Out And Weight-Loss.

A

s the summer comes to an end and our children go back to school, a sense of normalcy brings about an awareness of our postponed but not forgotten desire to become healthier. Those extra 15, 30, or more pounds slow us down and not only affect the way we feel but how we experience the world around us. So as our children begin readjusting themselves to the school environment, it’s time for us to refocus our personal needs, visualize the goal, and take the first steps towards a healthier and happier life. So how do we go about it? A popular first thought is to just eat less and exercise more thereby creating a caloric deficit and subsequent weight loss. Unfortunately as most have often experienced, it is not so simple and often proves unyielding. The typical example is Mary, a 62-year-old female secretary who came to me at 5 ft. 6 in. 182lbs. She was following a physician recommended 1200-calorie American Diabetic diet for a year and initially lost 5 lbs. but then sadly gained 15 pounds back. Prior to doing our program, she was taking two blood pressure medications, three types of diabetic medications, and a cholesterol pill. She was walking 2 miles triweekly. Mathematically if calories in versus calories out worked, she would have lost a fair amount of weight. But as I’ve learned, the weight loss equation has many variables.

www.PanacheVue.com

There is much confusion in our communities about which nutritional plan to follow. A recent issue of Time Magazine greatly illustrated the myths and facts of the battle against fat. For over three decades, the medical establishment and corporations have preached that a low-fat diet is the way to control our weight and prevent heart disease. During this period of fat prohibition, the consumption of sugar skyrocketed. As the food industry realized the increased demand for low-fat foods, they maintained flavor by replacing fat with sugar. Now the average American consumes over 100 lbs. of sugar per year. From the 1970’s to present, the American rate of obesity went from 14% to 66%. The New England Journal of Medicine last month reported a study following two groups of subjects, a low fat and low carbohydrate group. There were no caloric limitations and no exercise program that was followed. Fascinatingly, the group that consumed low carbohydrates lost weight and maintained lean body mass while the other group had the opposite effect. After Mary began our program, she lost 40 lbs. She did this by following a nutrient dense, low-carbohydrate nutritional plan. Tracking her progress along the way, her caloric intake was initially 900 calories. We used high quality supplements such as omega fish oils, multivitamins, and thyroid supplements to optimize her personal nutrient and hormonal levels. And today she enjoys a healthy lifestyle of approximately 1400 calories/day by eating healthy protein, plenty of vegetables, some fruit, and does not deny herself the luxury of a piece of cheesecake every now and then. She is also off of all her medications except one. The nutritional plan I recommend is simple. The general idea is to avoid pro-

cessed carbohydrates and in place eat plenty of vegetables, legumes, and fiberrich fruits in conjunction with healthy proteins for every meal. I highly recommend organic foods because they contain more nutrients and no pesticides or chemicals to play havoc on your hormonal balance. Protein sources should be grass-fed and come from farms where the animals are devoid of hormones and antibiotics. For the same reasons, choose fish that is wild-caught. The only fat to avoid is hydrogenated fat or trans fat usually found in packaged foods like crackers, cookies, margarine, and in many restaurant fried foods. Contrarily, all naturally occurring fats like monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat found in avocados, olive oil, coconut, and nuts are to be consumed daily . Drinking plenty of fluids like water and avoiding artificial sweeteners or sugary drinks is a must. Alcohol intake should be moderate meaning 3-4 ounces of alcohol per week and preferably wine. Exercising triweekly will also help by decreasing cortisol levels and releasing feel-good endorphins. Examples include dancing, walking, yoga, jogging, and biking. With these simple steps, you can defocus on eating less and exercising more and instead put the emphasis on eating high quality foods and enjoying life. This will improve your energy and metabolism while causing you to not only shed excess weight but also improve your general wellbeing. César A. ASK ANDREW ASHTON LaPosh Salon Dear Andrew Ashton, While I moved to Florida a few years ago, I am having a hard time finding a local stylist that cuts my hair the way my previous one did. Help! What should I be asking or doing to locate that new Stylist for me? Virginia Clearwater

Andrew Ashton LaPosh Salon

Dear Virginia, This is a common problem for new residents to an area. First off, finding a new Stylist can be very difficult especially when you have had a great Stylist for many years. Your “old” stylist knows your lifestyle, your likes/dislikes and how your hair reacts with certain cuts and styles. And lastly, it is someone you felt comfortable with. To find the right Stylist in a new area, find a person who looks like they have the same hair type as you and a great cut. Ask that person where they have their hair cut

and start to proceed from there. When you meet with a potential stylist, make time for a consultation - which should be a free service. This way, you and the potential new Stylist can sit and discuss what you are looking for. The Stylist can also have a chance to talk about you, your lifestyle and your past styles. The Stylist can at that time assess your hair type, hair density and growth pattern to determine next steps. Don’t be afraid to bring in your iPad and show all those Pinterest images you have in that ‘Hair Board’ of yours. Images can help with your new stylist better understand your personal style and get to know you. And as a reminder, no Stylist is perfect…sometimes it may take a cut or two to ultimately feel as though you both are on the same page. Start with a consultation and establish a repoir with someone who feels like a hair expert AND a friend. Best of luck!

INSPIRING OTHERS to

BELIEVE PHOTOGRAPHY BY LISA SIBLEY

arlier this year, we introduced Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy in all three of our Tampa Bay locations. Transforming lives by restoring the body’s natural balance which complements our already very successful weight loss program. The subject of hormone replacement is very near and dear to me because of the many women in my life that had been experiencing sudden changes in their minds and bodies. Self-love sounds a little prideful – maybe even arrogant, as we have been taught to not boast or brag. Many times, we don’t even think about bragging about ourselves because so many old messages play in our brain that knock us right back down if we get too strong. People without self-love tend to get lost in relationships because they become a mirror of someone else’s hopes and dreams. We spend so much time and energy focused on others that we forget to recharge the source of that energy. It is only when we are well that we can have the energy and internal resources to make a positive difference and help others. This is a simple, yet powerful concept that can dramatically improve our wellbeing, effectiveness and mental health. Sometimes, our overall energy levels and excitement for life have deteriorated slowly so that we really are not able to objectively see how far from our “normal” self we have fallen. We blame the extra birthday on having less stamina and less energy and accept that feeling as if it should be that way. We may remember when we were able to work all day, get the family settled in for the evening and still have a spark left for our partner at night. Now, it’s all we can do to get through the day, and there’s no spark left for anyone. In fact, we need to step outside of ourselves and look objectively to see what has happened. Maybe we have picked up a few pounds. When we are overweight, we tend to not love ourselves. We probably aren’t eating right which in turn makes us gain weight, and then we feel slug-

gish and maybe even our health is affected. Cholesterol may be higher as we are eating processed foods, blood pressure may be elevated, and our glucose (sugar) may be higher. We are on the road to metabolic syndrome, which does have long-term health effects if it continues. We help patients stop that cycle every day in our centers. They become empowered and learn to appreciate themselves again. That self-love then turns

Q&A

Panache: What is your philosophy of life? César: I believe that life is a journey, a gift. Our purpose is to appreciate and learn from our experiences, both good and challenging ones. I believe that we cannot take time for granted and that in my journey, my purpose is to make the best of what I have and have been given. I feel that there is a God and that all that happens in my life is for a higher purpose. I believe that God loves me, protects me and guides me but it’s up to me to open the door and experience the divine energy that God communicates through his love for me. My life’s purpose is to accept change by sharing the message of empowerment, to believe the power God has bestowed on me and in all who believe. Panache: Finish this sentence, Cesar Lara is… César: A father, husband, son, brother, friend and a doctor who strongly believes that if you visualize and believe, you can achieve anything in your life. Panache: What was the best and worst time in your life? César: I am an optimist and have the ability to see the good in everything in my life’s history. I truly cannot pick one best time in my life, there have been so many. I reflect back to my college days, my wedding, the births of my three children, and our travels. One

outward to family and partner. At mid life, our body begins slowing down the manufacturing of hormones. We need testosterone, estrogen and optimal thyroid to feel good. When we are not making much, we tend to have mood swings, feel irritable, do not get quality sleep, and sometimes experience “brain fog”. Who can feel at their best and sexiest for their partner when they feel like

that? Those symptoms are exactly what are treated with bio-identical hormone therapy. Your hormones are in balance as they were when you were younger and you feel more energized and positive. Your pleasure neurons begin firing again and you feel sexy and more energized – yes, even love yourself again. Patients tell me over and over how much better they feel and how they got their spark back.

memory that gives me the greatest joy and peace is when my three children were very young and we were celebrating Christmas. My wife Penelope and I would wait until the children were in bed and then we would place the gifts under the tree, take a few bites out of the cookies that we had left for Santa and I would set up our Baby Christ nativity scene for our family. Our home was filled with love, innocence and the excitement in our children’s eyes as they opened the gifts Santa had brought for them. It seemed almost surreal. One of the most challenging and painful times I remember in my life was when my mother-in-law Mary was diagnosed with brain cancer and was given only three months to live. First, I had to be her doctor and find the best possible treatment for her. Secondly, a husband to my wife and father to our children who all were affected emotionally by what was happening to their mother and grandmother. Throughout her illness she was always in good spirits and prayed daily to “Archangel Michael”. I truly believe that because of her spirit and belief that we had been blessed with her living for eighteen months instead of three. She was like a second mother to me and someone I will cherish for eternity.

to learn the essence of life and God. Panache: How do you think people perceive you and what is their biggest misconception of you? César: They probably think that everything is perfect in my life, all the time. I’m just like everyone else – not perfect, I do have imperfections and challenges that I deal with in my life just like everyone else. I’m just a regular guy.

Panache: What are your three greatest accomplishments in life? César: My children; Julian, Marcus and Zoe! It has been a miracle to learn from them, guide them, and enjoy them as a father and a friend. My greatest gifts! Panache: What would your second career or business choice be? César: A priest first. I have always felt that giving people faith gives them strength. I would also love to travel to the Himalayas

Panache: What are your top five to do on your bucket list? César: Skydive, experience the Bhutan Trek and an African Safari, write a book and practice Yoga daily. Panache: What do you do in your spare time that would be a surprise to those that don’t know you so well? César: I love to box! Panache: Your favorite phrase? César: Visualize, believe and let it actualize. Panache: How do you want to be remembered? César: As a loving and fun person, a friend who inspires others to believe in themselves and appreciate the moment. As one who made a positive difference in the lives of others through my vision and quest to empower others by helping them enjoy and love life, and that all is possible. Panache: What one person, dead or alive would you love to meet and get to know more than anyone else? César: I would have to say it would be Jesus Christ. An amazing individual! I’m inspired by his compassion and the greatness he achieved, I am truly humbled by him.

HEALTH Q&A Q: Why do you start to boil potatoes in cold water? A: As hearty as they are, potatoes actually need a little TLC to cook properly. Their flesh is relatively dense, so they cook much slower than, say, green beans. This density means it takes a while for the interior temp to match the exterior. Toss whole, cubed or quartered potatoes into a pot of boiling water, and you’ll end up with potatoes that are both over-and undercooked, mushy and gluey outside, hard and crunchy within. By starting spuds in cold water, the internal temp will have a better chance of matching the external as the water approaches and then reaches the boiling point. HEALTHY WEIGHT AND OVARIAN CANCER BY CHARLYN FARGO

adies, here’s another reason to keep yourself at a healthy weight -- a comprehensive report risk finds that being overweight increases women’s risk of ovarian cancer. The report, an analysis of the global research by the American Institute for Cancer Research and World Cancer Research Fund, means that ovarian cancer joins the growing list of cancers whose risk is increased by carrying excess body fat. That list includes post-menopausal breast cancer, colorectal cancer, endometrial cancer, esophageal cancer, kidney cancer, gallbladder cancer and pancreatic cancer. Added together, approximately 585,600 cases of these eight cancers are diagnosed in the U.S. every year, according to the American Institute for Cancer

Research. AICR estimates that being at a healthy weight could prevent 1 in 5 cancer diagnoses, or approximately 120,900 cancer cases every year. The report from the AICR/WCRF Continuous Update Project, “Ovarian Cancer 2014 Report: Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Ovarian Cancer,” analyzed 128 population studies that investigated how diet, weight and activity link to ovarian cancer. The 25 studies that focused on weight included 4 million women, 16,000 of whom developed ovarian cancer. The report showed a dose-response relationship: a 6 percent increased risk of developing ovarian cancer for every 5-point increase in body mass index. “These latest findings from the Continuous Update Project offer another reminder that our weight, and our lifestyle, play an important role in cancer risk for both women and men,” says AICR Associate Director of Nutrition Programs, Alice Bender, a registered dietitian. “This is really an empowering message. There are no guarantees, but adding activity into your day and healthy plant foods onto your plate are steps you can take today to reduce your risk of cancer and other chronic conditions as well.”

HEALTH Recipe Here’s a recipe utilizing summer’s bounty of peaches: Blueberry Peach Cobbler from Cooking Light magazine. Blueberry Peach Cobbler • 5 pounds peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided • 3/8 teaspoon salt, divided • 6.75 ounces (about 1 1/2 cups) plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, divided

ite into a juicy, ripe peach and you’re tasting summer. Peaches are one of summer’s best pleasures. They are also low in calories, a good source of vitamins, phytonutrients and fiber and may even help against cancer. A surprising new study finds that peaches are just as nutritious (and maybe more so) year-round in cans rather than the produce aisle. Researchers at Linus Pauling Institute found that canned peaches were significantly higher than fresh in levels of vitamin C, antioxidants and folate. The reason? Canned peaches are picked and packed at the peak of freshness and the canning process opens cell walls, making some nutrients more available. Results were published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture. However, it’s important to choose canned peaches in their own juices and avoid those packed in syrup. The anti-cancer properties of peaches are a result of chemical compounds in the fruit that are responsible for killing cancer cells while not affecting normal cells,

26

PANACHE VUE’

according to researchers. In a study published in the Journal of Biochemistry, scientists found that peach extracts slowed the growth of aggressive breast-cancer cells in mice. The amount was equivalent to a human consuming two or three peaches a day. It’s best to eat the whole peach including the skin to get the most nutrition. Information courtesy of the Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter. Q and A Q: Are calcium supplements safe? A: A Harvard study of 75,000 female nurses has linked the supplements to a reduced risk of heart attacks. In recent years, several studies suggested that calcium pills increase the risk of coronary artery disease, which has caused some people to stop taking them. This potential risk has been much debated, however, and many other studies have not supported it. The new observational study, in Osteoporosis International, found that women who took 1,000 mg or more of calcium a day had a 29 percent lower risk of heart attack over a 24-year period than a nonuser. The study accounted for age, weight, dietary calcium, vitamin D and various cardiovascular risk factors. Information courtesy of the University of California, Berkeley Wellness Letter.

Cooking spray • 1 teaspoon baking powder • 1/2 cup butter, softened • 2 large eggs • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 3/4 cup buttermilk • 2 cups fresh blueberries • 2 tablespoons turbinado sugar Preheat oven to 375. Arrange peach mixture evenly in a 13 x 9-inch glass or ceramic baking dish coated with cooking spray. Weigh or lightly spoon 6.75 ounces flour (about 1 1/2 cups) into dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Combine 6.75 ounces flour, remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, and baking powder in a bowl, stirring well with a whisk. Place the remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar and butter in a medium bowl, and beat with a mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes). THE TOOTH ABOUT COFFEE BY SCOTT LAFEE

T

he American love affair with coffee gets a great deal of attention. Roughly 83 percent of adults drink the stuff, making the United States the largest consumer of the beverage in the world. That attention, however, often focuses on coffee’s documented and alleged harms. It can be addictive, for example. It’s hard on the stomach. It can raise blood pressure and blood sugar levels. But coffee has its claimed benefits, too. Studies suggest it might reduce the risk of dementia and stroke. It appears to have a protective effect against multiple cancers. Here’s a new one: researchers at Boston University say antioxidants in coffee

appear to curb tooth loss caused by gum disease. They found that coffee consumption was associated with a small, but statistically significant, reduction in the number of teeth with periodontal bone loss among 1,152 men tested between 1968 and 1998. So, drink up. Just remember to brush afterward. BODY OF KNOWLEDGE Each of your feet contains a quarter of a million sweat glands and is capable of producing a pint of perspiration daily. GET ME THAT, STAT! Rates of hospitalizations and deaths from heart disease and stroke have dropped significantly in the United States over the past decade, according to a new Yale University study. ONE DAY WE MAY LIVE TWICE AS LONG AS WE DO TODAY! BY DAVID LIPSCHITZ

M

y late father, as was so common in his generation, had a heart attack in his 40s, a stroke in his 50s and succumbed to heart disease in his early 60s. After a heart attack at age 55, I felt confident I was likely to follow the path of my father and grandfather (who died at age 59), and not live much beyond my mid-60s. Perhaps because of my lifestyle and the miracles of modern medicine, I am 71 and feel 40, fabulous and frisky! Not surprisingly, we all want to live very long lives. There is even the promise by some expert gerontologists (scientists who study the aging process) of life expectancies of a century and a half. Longevity has become a passion. Industries have evolved that promise youth, reversal of the aging process and a prolongation in life expectancy. Much is cosmetic and only skin-deep, with anti-aging creams, diets to

32

PANACHE VUE’

reduce wrinkling and promote youth, and an explosive increase in cosmetic surgery to avoid the inevitable -- growing older. Interest in longevity has led to a new health care field called “anti-aging medicine” that promises youthfulness, longer lives and the tantalizing promise of immortality. Today sales pitches from purveyors of dubious natural and pharmaceutical products promise longer and better lives. Interest in this area has grown explosively with over 10,000 physicians belonging to the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, a driving force in so-called longevity medicine. The evidence that any current therapy can reverse aging is doubtful or frankly nonexistent. Politicians have referred to anti-aging advocates as “21st-century snake oil salesmen,” and some years ago Dr. Jay Olshansky of the University of Illinois circulated a position paper signed by 51 of the nation’s most eminent scientists warning of the hype of anti-aging remedies. Anti-aging therapies include sex and growth hormones that have the potential of building muscle and strength, but they accelerate rather than prevent aging. Antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and immuneboosting medications have all been proposed as anti-aging therapies. More and more evidence is accumulating that these, including vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin A, various minerals and many others in-

crease cancer risk and shorten rather than increase life expectancy. While reversing the aging process is currently impossible, never say never! We know that restricting food intake in animals prolongs life by about 30 percent, and as we learn more and more about how individual cells function, new strategies to reverse aging are possible. The tip of every chromosome is referred to as the telomere. As a cell ages, the telomere shortens, and this prevents the cell from dividing. Once the telomere is very short the cell dies. Research has shown that an enzyme known as telomerase can prevent telomere shortening and prolong the life expectancy of cells. Much research is currently underway to use this strategy to prolong life in animals and perhaps one day in man. To date, this had not been achieved. Even more exciting is the ongoing research by world-renowned and highly respected gerontologists who have identified genes in worms, fruit flies, mice and even monkeys that prolong life. By the use of cutting edge research, these genes can be modified, prolonging life expectancy in these organisms by 50 percent or more. Finding a single gene or a number of linked genes that can either be altered or injected into humans to reverse the aging process may one day be a reality. Who knows what the future may hold? The incredible sophistication of modernday research technologies makes anything possible. Even if no more than a promise for the future, these research endeavors to prolong life are vital to truly understanding the factors involved in longevity. A longer life will only work if we minimize or eradicate chronic diseases that cause disability, such as frailty and Alzheimer’s disease. This will assure not only a longer but, more importantly, a better life. Simultaneously, we must prevent the leading causes of death, including heart disease, cancer, chronic lung and kidney disease. If we all live beyond 100, and 90 percent of us reside in nursing homes, living longer will be accompanied by suffering, depression and unrealistic economic burdens. It is not how long we live but how well.

Dali Hernandez is the Creative Director and head designer for House of Dali. She is also a Real Estate Agent operating in the Tampa Bay area. Dali’s arrival to the fashion industry has been making numerous headlines; however designing is nothing new for this NY native. She recalls her childhood’s obsession with fashion magazines, and with the help of a pair of scissors, she would cut various designs to mix and match and ultimately transform her bedroom walls into the latest fashion show. The days she went fabric shopping with her mother gave her an early perspective on quality variation and how the same design can be completely altered due to fabric choice. Dali’s fashion line is for the woman who still maintains her social status and is not afraid to make a fashion statement. She feels that there shouldn’t really be a target age or group for her line, because she feels that women are sexy and edgy at any age. Dali was featured on FOX13, What’s Hot Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay Pulse, Vocess International, Creative Loafing, tbttimes, St. Pete Times, Panache Vue, Remark Magazine, Libertine Magazine, Envie, and was Semi Finalist for “Fashion Star” NBC. HEALTH & FITNESS

WATER FITNESS

BENEFITS

T

he unique properties of water combine to offer one of the most effective environments for an exercise program. Water fitness is the great equalizer – participants of a wide range of skill and fitness levels can enjoy this low-impact, total body conditioning workout. With the addition of high-quality equipment, the benefits of a water workout are endless.

GETTING FIT: TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING

• Studies have shown convincingly that water workouts decrease body fat as effectively as land-based exercise programs. • Without performing a single sit-up, a water workout tones and strengthens the abdominals as a result of maintaining a vertical posture against the water’s resistance.

36

• Water offers a three-in-one workout for cardiovascular and muscular conditioning and enhanced flexibility. This timeefficient, total body conditioning workout results in increased strength and endurance, and improved biomechanics and balance. • Low-impact aquatic workouts can prevent the injury, strain and re-injury common to many land-based exercise. Water supports 90 percent of the body’s weight – resulting in reduced stress on joints, muscles, tendon and ligaments. • Water is a natural and instantly adjustable weight-training machine. Resistance is approximately four to 42 times greater in water than air. A workout can be as vigorous or light as desired by effectively utilizing the water’s resistance. • Unlike most land activities, water provides resistance in all directions, so both sides of the muscle pair can be strength-

ened simultaneously. For example, an arm curl works both biceps and triceps, since there is resistance to the movement in both directions. • An upright water workout can be more effective than swimming, because the body’s vertical position increases resistance 75 percent over swimming laps. Water Fitness Benefits -- 2

FEELING GOOD: FITNESS FOR A LIFETIME

• A regular water fitness program can result in the permanent reduction of blood pressure. Water’s hydrostatic pressure helps the heart circulate blood, which accounts for lower blood pressure and heart rates during deep water exercise versus similar exertions on land. • Practical daily movements such as walking, lifting and reaching can be incorpo-

• Buoyancy equipment, such as the patented AquaJogger® belt, suspend the body securely and comfortably, supporting the head and neck out of the water, so hair stays dry and glasses can be worn. Water Fitness Benefits -- 3 • Especially beneficial to individuals with disabilities is the fact that water workouts offer a greater range of motion and freedom of movement than many land-based exercise.

rated into a water fitness workout to enhance functionality. This can result in the ability to enjoy and perform the activities of daily life with greater energy and ease. A water workout can be a social activity just like fitness walking or riding side-byside stationary bikes. With access to an indoor pool, water exercise becomes a great year-round activity, as well as a safe workout option during inclement weather. It can also be an affordable alternative to at-home workouts which often involve more expensive equipment. Water exercise is both exhilarating and therapeutic – reducing stress-related symptoms such as high blood pressure and muscle spasms. The water’s full body massage action provides a vigorous yet deeply relaxing workout that is usually pain free. Water exercise involves all muscle groups, yet virtually eliminates muscle soreness – leaving the muscles relaxed instead of

tight and sore.

WATER WALKING: NO SWIM SKILLS REQUIRED

• Water walking and running movements are simple to learn and require no swim skills, making deep water workouts accessible to virtually everyone – from those just beginning a workout program to those looking for a great cross-training option. • Whether in peak condition or recovering from surgery, the water’s forgiving environment supports and offers a light or challenging workout according to the person’s need – for both fragile physical therapy clients and intense athletes. • The water’s buoyancy helps even the uncoordinated land exerciser achieve a measure of grace with movements that are easy to learn. The fact that water obscures less than stellar bodies also makes this exercise appealing to the self-conscious.

• Water exercise demands the continual use of the abdominal and back muscles as well as the arms and legs in order to maintain erect body alignment and balance. This strengthening of the core abdominals and back can assist in managing and preventing back pain. • Water exercise enables a person to preserve as much fitness and function as possible while rehabilitating an injury. Many people heal to over 100 percent of preinjury strength and may actually improve their fitness level. Some individuals who have committed to aquatic therapy found their recovery time is reduced by half. • Heat is lost 25 times faster in water than air, allowing for longer and more comfortable workouts. This natural cooling of the body is particularly beneficial for people who tend to overheat during exercise, and in conditions such as pregnancy or multiple sclerosis, where maintaining a lower core body temperature is very important. • The water’s pressure helps the heart circulate blood which accounts for lower blood pressure and heart rates during deep water exercise. As a result of this hydrostatic pressure, water exercise may be one of the best and safest activities for cardiac patients. It also helps reduce swelling, allowing many people with arthritis or injuries to exercise. n To find a retailer near you visit www.AquaJogger.com or call 1-800-922-9544. FALL IS A GREAT TIME TO SAVOR CHICAGO BY GLENDA WINDERS

M

ild temperatures make early fall a great time to visit Chicago. Strolling the streets, parks, shorelines and neighborhoods of the thirdlargest U.S. city, sampling its fabulous cuisine, and taking in a baseball or football game are now particularly comfortable. It’s also an ideal time to appreciate Chicago’s geography, particularly the waterways that launched the city onto the world stage. Its location on Lake Michigan and closeness to links between the Mississippi River system and Great Lakes sparked the city’s rise. While the connection initially included overland portage, in 1848 the Illinois and Michigan Canal, the first to enable all-water transit between the two great inland water hubs, was opened. Incorporated as a city in 1837, Chicago rapidly grew in importance as a rail hub and industrial center. These transportation and manufacturing assets drew huge numbers of European immigrants who came here for economic opportunities and jobs that were often denied them at home. Of course there was plenty of history before Chicago officially became a city. Fur traders had been here since the 17th century, following in the footsteps of French explorers such as Louis Jolliet and Father Jacques Marquette. Today, quite near the site where Fort Dearborn stood between 1804 and 1812, the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise starts its 90-minute floating explorations of many of the city’s famous buildings. Intelligently narrated, these excursions are an ideal introduction to a century and a half of Chicago history and some of its most famous landmarks. Tours, which operate from April to November, start at the southeast corner and lower level of the

Michigan Avenue Bridge at Wacker Drive. The excursions float past such structures as the Wrigley Building, the Montgomery Ward Building, River City apartment complex, Aqua Tower and Aon Center, and the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower, which offers one of Chicago’s most stunning aerial views. Visitors are also told about the extraordinary 1900 river reversal project. Until the end of the 19th century the Chicago River -- whose banks were lined with industry -- flowed eastward. This meant that along the way growing quantities of industrial and other pollution were dumped directly into the lake, which was also Chicago’s prime source of drinking water. Needing to stem resulting epidemics, engineers reversed the river by digging the Sanitary and Ship Canal between the Chicago River’s south branch and the Des Plaines River, a Mississippi River tributary. Since the new canal was deeper than the Chicago River, gravity pulled Lake Michigan water westward, ensuring that pollutants no longer fed into it. Today Lake Michigan is most swimmable, and on warm days it’s packed with urban beach-goers and water-lovers. Exploring Chicago on foot is another way to see this great city, particularly in the Loop, an area bounded by the Chicago River, Harrison Street and Michigan Avenue as well as elevated rail tracks. This is not only the heart of Chicago’s business district, but it

is also the home of an extraordinary collection of impressive buildings and public art. The most famous sculpture is Pablo Picasso’s untitled steel work in Daley Plaza. There is usually a steady stream of viewers, photographers and kids who love to (and are allowed to) slide down its 47-year-old appendages. Other nearby highlights include Joan Miro’s “Chicago” on Washington Street and “The Four Seasons” by Marc Chagall, a 70-foot-long, four-sided surreal mosaic in Chase Plaza and Dearborn Street. Farther down Dearborn is the red-orange “Flamingo” by Alexander Calder. Major midtown architectural highlights include the Chicago Cultural Center at 78 Washington St. with its extraordinary interior and Tiffany glass dome and the Carbide and Carbon Building at 230 N. Michigan Ave., which features a stunning art deco tower. Also worth a look are the Jewelers Building, 15-17 S. Wabash, which featured drive-in parking so jewelers could safely transport their valued goods, and the Marquette Building, 140 S. Dearborn with its amazing lobby murals that depict the explorer’s adventures and travels. Architecture devotees will want to tour or explore solo the Oak Park neighborhood, site of many structures designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, who lived here during his early years. Chicago strolls should also include

Grant Park and 10-year-old Millennium Park, both running along the east side of Michigan Avenue. Much of this stands on landfill created by debris from the disastrous 1871 Great Fire. The Millennium, which opened in 2004, features the gleaming Cloud Gate by Anish Kapoor and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, site of numerous outdoor public events. Another walk goes along upper Michigan Avenue (above the Chicago River) past many upscale shops and stores to reach the Chicago Water Tower, a Great Fire survivor. And for truly spectacular views, it’s worth ascending to the top of the John Hancock Building’s 1,000-foot-high “360 Chicago” observatory. Visitors must not miss one of the world’s greatest museums, the Art Institute of Chicago. Best known as the home of George Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” the museum -- at Michigan and Adams -- also is home to a fabulous Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collection. Also here are “America Windows” by Marc Chagall; the re-creation of the 1893-1894 Chicago Stock Exchange trading room; many paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh; and works by Jacques Lipchiltz, Henri Matisse, Chaim Soutine and Amedeo Modigliani. Visiting the Art Institute often requires enduring extensive entry lines. However,

www.PanacheVue.com

holders of the Chicago City Pass avoid this since the pass not only covers admission but also lets holders bypass these lines. Similar benefits apply at the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium. World-class classical music is another major Chicago plus. Under Ricardo Muti’s direction the Chicago Symphony offers superb performances and programs at its elegant Michigan Avenue home almost directly opposite the Art Institute. Another top-notch company is the Chicago Lyric Opera, one of America’s best troupes, performing at 20 N. Upper Wacker Drive. Chicago is also the home of plenty of dynamic theater. Leading companies include the Goodman Theatre (170 N. Dearborn St.) and the Steppenwolf Theatre Company (1650 N. Halsted St.). Another reason to visit in the fall is that temperate weather makes this a great time to take in outdoor Chicago sports. Though neither local baseball team is playoff-bound this year, the Cubs and White Sox offer terrific venues. Wrigley Field, now celebrating its 100th anniversary, has been the Cubs’ home for 98 years. The heart of the North Side, this wooden, close-in park with its iconic moss-covered outfield wall makes Wrigley a virtual mecca for baseball fans. For contrast, check out the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field on the city’s south side. It’s a comfortable, very modern park

with excellent sightlines and concessions. Interestingly, both fields are reachable by the same Red subway line. From midtown head north to Addison for the Cubs or south to the Sox-35th Street to see the White Sox. Before chilly days arrive, football fans might want to experience the NFL Chicago Bears at stately Soldier Field or train up to Evanston, Illinois, for a Big Ten Northwestern University home game. That Chicago is a serious food town is hardly news. As an example of its dining diversity, on a recent visit my wife and I reveled in the trendy Peruvian specialties that nightly pack midtown Tanta. Bar Pastoral, a Lincoln Park neighborhood bistro, features extraordinary cheeses and a menu whose only constant is clever, taste-tempting cuisine.
