This isn’t far from the truth as Baseball’s National League, formed in 1876, is the oldest professional sports league in the world! But the excitement and longevity of outdoor sports, from baseball to football to soccer and track and field, is largely about the athlete. Many American children dream of being a star athlete for one of our home teams and the few that make it receive adoration and respect.
