LOCAL GALLERY HAS NEW COLLECTION Ocean Art Gallery hired a new staff member earlier this year, and now after seven months of work, she is introducing her oil dry brush collection, titled “Splashparencies,” in the gallery. Cherree Mallette has been drawing and painting since she was 5 years old, and always knew she wanted to be a professional artist, according to a press release. While at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, she won many “Best of Show” awards, including a threemonth scholarship to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in New York City. She later moved to Florida, where her artwork was exhibited in galleries such as the Reef Gallery in Key Largo and Snap! in Orlando. Mallette met Ocean Art Gallery owner Frank Gromling last November, the press release states. Gromling was looking to hire an additional art consultant and an experienced framing consultant. Now, the
press release stated her art is attracting collectors from near and far, “many of whom also are engaging her to enhance their art collections with her creative framing style.” Mallette and Gromling are also planning a major art program to raise funds for water quality research projects. Mallette’s “Splashparencies” and the art of two other waterthemed artists will be coupled with expert speakers to form “Water Is Life,” coming soon. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Those wishing to meet the artist may do so TuesdayFriday or call 386-317-9400 for a personal appointment.

LOCAL BUSINESSES WIN GRANTS Three local Ormond businesses will receive $1,500 marketing grants as a result of a marketing seminar sponsored by Ormond Beach MainStreet and the TD Charitable Foundation, a press release recently announced. The winners are Frame of Mind Custom Framing and Art Gallery, located at 23 W. Granada Blvd.; Secret Attic Thrift Store, located at 32 N. Ocean Shore Blvd.; and Thays Art Gallery and Studio, located at 154 W. Granada Blvd. A total of 22 businesses attended the free day-long seminar back in March, and each of them were assigned a mentor to work with over the next month. The businesses were asked to develop and submit an annual marketing plan to compete for the grants, and while the coronavirus pandemic put the application process on hold, plans were submitted to the judging panel in late July, the press release announced.
