Boys’ Soccer During the 1970s and 1980s, under the tutelage of John Coffin, boys’ soccer had many successful seasons, and in the fall of 1990, with coaches Charlie Huntington and Bill Dunham, the team again had a successful season. The popularity of soccer during this time is substantiated by the fact that there were four levels of boys’ soccer teams that year in contrast
to today’s two teams. The 1990s included two very successful teams; in 1995, coached by Andy Menzie and Chris Hollander ’86, the team went to the New England Soccer Tournament for the first time in Canterbury history. The soccer program then embarked on a period of lackluster records, enlivened by the outstanding play of some individual students. In 2000, Dana Myjak ’01 was a New England All-Star and the MVP of the All-State Game. Patrick Sheehy ’04 was the starting goalie for the team from 2000 to 2003 and was named to the All New England Team as goalie in ’01, ’02, and ’03 and All-State his Sixth Form year. He established a record for the most career saves by a varsity goalie. Pat Phalen ’11 was Connecticut Prep All-State in 2010.
