If an injury occurs on the race course or an athlete appears to need assistance, the race jury will contact ski patrol and inform the Event Medical Director.

a. Ski patrol will be the first responder and will attend to the injured athlete after the Chief of Race determines course access is secure. NO ONE WILL ACCESS THE COURSE UNTIL THE CHIEF OF RACE HAS GRANTED PERMISSION.

b. Evacuation, if necessary, will be coordinated by the Event Medical Director and Chief of Race.

c. An Event Physician will be directed to the incident if needed to assist Ski Patrol.

d. Team Physicians will be notified by the Event Medical Director or Chief of Race and may assist after the athlete has been transported off the course. The athlete’s team physician may enter the course if the Event Medical Director requests their assistance.

Care and transport decisions will be the responsibility of the ski patrol with input from event and team physicians. Care shall be based upon established ski patrol medical protocols. Ski Patrol is equipped with immobilization devices including spinal approved vacuum mats, oxygen, nasal and oral airways, tourniquet, mechanical and power suction and external defibrillation.
