Performance Venues Palatine Park District is proud to support the arts in the Palatine community by presenting summer concerts, classes, events, and programs at several venues located throughout town.

TOWNE SQUARE (est. 1996)

150 W. PALATINE ROAD, PALATINE

Development of an urban park in the historic downtown area of Palatine was a goal of both the Palatine Park District and the Village of Palatine, so this lovely parcel of land was purchased in 1996. With grant assistance and a great deal of public support, the Downtown Park Site Development Committee was formed. The committee took on the responsibility of guiding the park’s future development. Working closely with Palatine Park District staff, this committee reviewed and revised plans and ideas for the park. Towne Square provides a beautiful space for recreational and festival activities including the Friday Family Picnic Series, Towne Square Spotlight Series, and the Village of Palatine’s annual Street Fest event.

CUTTING HALL (est. 1928)

150 E. WOOD STREET, PALATINE

Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center is a unique facility owned and operated by Palatine Park District. In 1977, the Park District purchased the former Palatine High School’s Cutting Hall Auditorium. The Park District’s intentions were to restore and preserve Cutting Hall so that area residents could enjoy and participate in amateur and professional programs in their own community. The 430-seat auditorium is named after the first principal of Palatine High School,

Mr. Charles Cutting. He was born in Highgate Springs, Vermont, on March 1, 1854. He received his early education in Minnesota and graduated from Williamette University in Salem, Oregon. In 1874, he came to Palatine to pursue a teaching career, and six years later he was admitted to the Illinois State Bar. He went on to become Master of Chancery of the Circuit Court of Cook County and was a member of the Cook County Board of Education for nine years. When the curtains first opened on the Cutting Hall stage on September 15, 1928, the theater’s appearance was similar to today. The crosswork of beams was hand decorated by Gustave Bandt, one of four artists in the world who did this specialized work. The stage curtain displayed the P.H.S. monogram on a purple and gold drape. During the course of the year, the Park District utilizes Cutting Hall for performances by community theater groups, performing arts series for children, the Palatine Concert Band, and Park District programs including theater, dance, and the Palatine Children’s Chorus. Cutting Hall offers residents an opportunity to share their talents and resources in the performing arts. The Park District is proud to offer this lively example of the rich arts heritage which is found in our area.

FRED P. HALL AMPHITHEATER (est. 1988)

The Community Park Amphitheater was opened in June of 1988. Since that time, appreciative audience members from all over the northwest suburbs have claimed a patch of grass with picnic baskets, blankets, and lawn chairs to enjoy a full series of Wednesday and Friday evening concerts.

In a few short years the Amphitheater quickly became an invaluable entertainment facility in our area. In April 2002 the Palatine Park District Board of Commissioners renamed the Amphitheater the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater in recognition of former Executive Director Fred P. Hall’s 31 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Palatine.

Since its grand opening, the Amphitheater stage has played host to a tremendous variety of artists and entertainment groups including such local favorites as American English, 7th Heaven, Palatine Concert Band, the Symphonic Pops Orchestra, Tom Chapin, and the Buckinghams. Because of its location in Palatine, the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater is the ideal spot for our residents and neighbors to enjoy quality live entertainment at no cost.

Harper College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Ken Spurr, is a large Jazz Combo where students learn to improvise while performing great jazz repertory. The group, made up of piano, guitars, bass, drums, horns, and vocalists, enjoys performing songs by Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and Horace Silver as well as Latin Jazz songs. The band has recently performed at the Elmhurst College Jazz Fest, where they received an outstanding soloist award, and at the famous Jazz Showcase in Chicago.

Under the direction of Stephen Squires, the Illinois Brass Band plays challenging-toplay and exciting-to-hear music from a wide variety of genres including classical, jazz, and pop. Performing in the British brass band tradition, the brass band has won six NABBA championships, all the while delighting audiences throughout the Chicago area.

Get ready for an experience you just have to see and hear! 7th Heaven has charted #1 on the Midwest Billboard Charts three times in the past three years. The band has been heard on over seven radio stations in Chicagoland with their hits “Stoplight,” “Better This Way,” and “Sing.”

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT

The Village of Palatine and the Palatine Park District are partnering with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) to host an Electronics Recycling Event. No vehicles will be allowed to enter the event line after 12:00pm. Residents from any of the 23 SWANCC member communities can participate.

Proof of residency will be verified. This event is for residential electronics only. No business or institutional waste will be accepted. Chris is full of boundless energy and humor as he acts out stories, poems, and folktales in his fun-filled, participatory show. Many different cultures and literary styles are represented in his stories, all of which are available through the school or community library. You’ll see colorful characters from literature come to life in a program designed to promote reading, imagination, and an interest in books.

Backpacks, Blessings and Barbecue at the Bandshell Fred P. Hall Amphitheater

Sunday, August 14 10:45 a.m. Worship 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. BBQ and Fun Community worship with Immanuel’s Praise band, a “special blessing,” and a barbecue for all. Students and educators are encouraged to bring along their backpacks, totes, or briefcases to be blessed. K-9 Comfort Dogs from Lutheran Church Charities will be available for petting and hugs! This event is open to the entire community and all ages!

The worship and fun will take place at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road.

Hall Amphitheater and Towne Square. In order to keep this popular benefit for residents going, an annual membership program has been launched to allow patrons to get involved.

Donors contributing $25 or more will receive a one year membership, including recognition for their support this year in our 2017 Sounds of Summer program book, the opportunity to vote on 2017 donation gift items, and participation in an entertainment survey to select next summer’s bands. Donations will help enhance the quality of free entertainment provided and support the ongoing growth of our annual concert series.
