here was no mention of an apology or a victory speech in the memorandum of understanding(MoU) signed between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N and the Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf(PTI) that had put down in clear language how each party would respond to the outcome of the inquiry tasked to the three-member Judicial Commission(JC) headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Nasirul Mulk to find out whether the 2013 polls were conducted fairly and in accordance with the law; whether there was a plan or design to manipulate or influence the elections and; whether the overall basis of elections were a true and fair reflection of the mandate given by the electorate. Under the relevant agreed clauses of the MoU, in case the JC found that the answers to all the above mentioned three questions were in the negative, the government would resign immediately and call for fresh elections. On the other hand if the answers were in the affirmative the PTI’s allegations would stand withdrawn automatically. As one could see from the MoU which was also read out with repeated emphasis by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday last in his speech on the floor of the National Assembly there was no mention of either an apology on the part of PTI after its allegations stood withdrawn automatically or a victory speech by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after the JC had ruled in favour of the

Yakub Memon to be hanged today NEW DELHI—Yakub Memon, the only person to be sentenced to death for the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, will be hanged as scheduled on Thursday after he exhausted all his legal remedies and President Pranab Mukherjee too rejected his mercy plea on Wednesday. LONDON—The Afghan government is investigating new reports that Taliban leader Mullah Omar has died, a BBC report quoted a government spokesman as having said. The Taliban has yet to comment on the claim, which was made by top sources within the Afghan administration and intelligence agency, the report stated. The sources said the reclusive militant leader had died two to three years ago, the report further claimed. But, this is not the first time Omar has been reported dead since the Taliban’s fall from power; the Afghan government is presently working to verify (or disprove) the latest report states. The latest claims of Mullah Omar’s death are being taken more seriously than previous such reports. The Taliban is

LeJ chief Malik Ishaq, 2 sons among 14 killed LAHORE—Malik Ishaq, chief of banned outfit Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, his two sons Usman and Haq Nawaz, and 11 others were killed in an alleged exchange of fire with police personnel here late on Tuesday night. At least six policemen were also injured in the alleged encounter. According to details, Ishaq and his sons were arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department a week ago. Following their latest arrest, the police had interrogated them and had subsequently taken them to Shahwala area of Muzaffargarh district to aid the police in recovering weapons and explosives, sources in the CTD said.
The encounter appears to have taken place as militants attacked security forces and tried to free Ishaq. A spokesman for CTD Multan said Ishaq, his two sons, one Ghulam Rasool Shah and two other accused, all from Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, were taken to Muzaffargarh by the counter-terrorism department to aid in the recovery of arms and explosives. The spokesman said that when the police party was returning after making the recovery, it was attacked by some 12 to 15 gunmen who succeeded in freeing Ishaq, his sons and the other accused and started fleeing away on motorcycles. The Flood Forecasting Division of Met Department in Lahore said that the River Kabul is in medium flood at Nowshera while both River Jhelum and River Ravi are in low flood at Mangla and Sadhnai respectively. All other rivers and nullahs are flowing normally at present.
