Kathleen Willer As a small child, Kathleen proudly displayed her creative talents by drawing directly on walls and school desks. This instinct to draw grew along with her, so she earned an art degree and chose to be a self-employed artist. Now working (more appropriately) on canvas, Kathleen uses acrylic paint and oil pastel, layered with bouts of intense scribbling, to make her unique, happy paintings. If you look closely at the background of each piece, you will see drawings descended from the walls and school desks of her youth. Kathleen has been painting professionally for 26 years and has collectors on five continents. She resides in Menomonee Falls, WI.

Alann J Boatright Alann J Boatright grew up in Flint Michigan going to every open house Chevrolet had from 1959 - 1977. His dad used to say he was “weaned on a piston pacifier. He loved everything about cars. He started painting with acrylics at 8 years old. He is self-taught as a painter. After attending school for advertising design, he took a job as a technical illustrator for the Department of Defense working for an Air Force Contractor. Until he wed his college sweetheart, his paintings were a hobby. She drove him to paint more and more. It was her that urged him to consider showing his work, and so, after 48 years of painting solely for personal escape and relaxation, he decided to begin showing his work. In January 2016, he applied to and was accepted into a show in Florida. It was the beginning of something exciting. His paintings are purposely filled with distractions, bright colors, found objects, funny situations, etc. to cleverly hide their real meaning. A closer look will reveal clues and hints, that once pointed out, reveal themselves so clearly, and in such a way that the viewer is awe struck and motivated to figure out another one. 16 | Ann Arbor Art Fair Official Guide 2018

William Kwamena-Poh William was born in Ghana and came to the United States when his father came to teach history at Talladega College in Alabama. While he was there, he was introduced to the work of JamesHuff, who was an artist teaching at the college. Williams says; “He painted huge intricately detailed portraits of African American women that blew me away! They were so detailed, yet simplistic. I was lit on fire!” William works in opaque water color known as, gouache. It is in this work that we can see how William is able to capture such strong emotions in his subjects.

Linda Chamberlain is a Michigan based artist well known for her recurring use of the charming elements included in this year’s poster. “My childhood muses are the inspiration for my work. They help me explore my relationship to the natural environment. Some of the essential elements I discovered in childhood are trees, hills, boats, moons and endless blue skies…to mention a few. Many of my paintings explore man’s fascination with life and spirituality. The bird image is used as a vehicle in this process. Tangible objects connect us to our own mortality. Childlike figures lead us on the path of our own introspective journey. Man’s captivation with his surroundings is examined within these confines.”
