After Hurricane Sandy ... ...

Emerging street squash culture in New York and Newark area has been changing the lifestyle of the neighborhood. In addition to flooding issue brought by the attack of hurricane Sandy in 2012, the project investigated an integrated design with architectural, environmental, structural and material logics with respect to existing building strategy.

Meeting of Two Landscapes In solving the problem of flooding, the squash centre is elevated and below it is a berm that prevents flooding water enters the inner land.

In the squash centre, the headroom difference between classrooms and squash courts generate the level difference of access. Therefore, an internal landscape is formed. The internal landscape and the external landscape (the berm) meet at a point where become the entrance.
