army spokesperson.” the briefing to the journalist comes on the heels of the recent Formation commanders’ conference during which the military’s top brass assured that the “Pakistan Army is aware of its responsibilities and shall continue to defend territorial integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan against all internal and external threats under all circumstances”. “this decision was not taken to harm or benefit anyone. this is the constitutional role of armed forces which we are trying to fulfill.” “Whatever happened during the last few days, is not part of the constitutional process? it is not the army’s place to offer someone an Nro.” Gen Babar also dismissed rumours of the establishment meeting opposition parties before the vote of no confidence against imran. “there is no truth to this,” he said and added there were no such contacts and “no deal” was done. reaffirming that the army or the establishment had the “best relations with the government”, the head of the military’s media wing assured there was no disagreement between the institutions. “i would say that the army chief has very good personal relations with imran Khan and mutual respect and it will stay the same. Parties and governments change but the army meets them all and there are no issues or problems.” When asked about the events on the night of April 9 and rumours of an impending martial law, Gen Babar said there was no such thing happening at the time. “Do you have any evidence of it? Are courts under the Army? our courts are free and if something happened at the courts, it was their own action.” “it is the duty of everyone to strengthen democracy and the strength of our democracy are our national institutions. Whether it’s the parliament, the Supreme court or the armed forces. Pakistan will progress with democracy.”

Imran Khan says ‘reference against Justice Isa was a mistake’ ISLAMABAD staff report

Former premier imran Khan has admitted that the filing of a presidential reference for the removal of Supreme court’s Justice Qazi Faez isa was a mistake. the former prime minister conceded his “mistake” during a meeting with the insaf Lawyers Forum (iLF) members on tuesday. the purpose of the meeting was to activate the party’s legal wing in the present scenario wherein the Pti’s social media activists were being harassed by the law enforcement agencies. Several participants of the meeting have confirmed to the express tribune that the ex-PM admitted that the filing of a presidential reference against Justice isa was a mistake as the then relevant officials had misguided his government about the facts of the case. imran was not interested in pursuing the reference against the Sc judge for the last couple of years. it has been learnt that former attorney general for Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan had convinced him that Justice isa was an honest judge and he was misled in this case.

it emerged earlier that the federal cabinet under consideration will likely to have 12 ministers from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and seven ministers from Pakistan People’s Party. Moreover, JUi-F will likely to be given four ministries, MQM two ministries, while BNP-Mengal, ANP, Jamhoori Watan Party and Balochistan Awami Party will also be given cabinet portfolios. Moreover, the name of PML-N Senator Azam Nazir tarar has been under consideration for the slot of Leader of the House in the Senate. PM Shahbaz Sharif held meetings with the leaders of allied parties and thanked for his nomination for the office of the prime minister and supporting him in the election. Shehbaz Sharif called on PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PDM chief Maulana Fazlur rehman, MQMP convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Akhtar Mengal, Khalid Magsi, Shahzain Bugti, Aslam Bhootani and other leaders of the allied parties but failed to evolve consensus yet.
