Nobody to be spared for perpetratiNg violeNce iN Name of religioN: pm
p
rime minister imran khan has said that nobody will be spared for perpetrating violence under the garb of religion. addressing a condolence reference in memory of Sri Lankan national priyantha diyawadana, who was brutally lynched by a mob in Sialkot last week over blasphemy allega-
tions, the prime minister said the incident brought embarrassment to the entire nation and dented its image. the prime minister said the business community of Sialkot has collected one hundred thousand dollars to be provided to the bereaved family of priyantha diyawadana. he said the bereaved family will also
continue to receive the monthly salary. appreciating the courage of malik adnan, who put his life at risk to save the life of the Sri Lankan national, the prime minister said malik adnan will be conferred with tamgha-e-Shujaat. “role models are important in the country because people follow them,” imran said, adding, “moral power is
greater than physical power.” the prime minister also presented him with a letter of appreciation. the premier said pakistan is the only country that was established in the name of islam, but Sialkot-like incidents are a source of shame for the pakistanis. “pakistanis living abroad couldn’t
show their faces in public after this incident,” he said, adding that he received tons of messages from people living overseas. Later, talking to the media, malik adnan thanked the prime minister for announcing tamgha-e-Shujaat for him and giving him a letter of appreciation. he said that he would like to dedicate these awards to the family of priyantha diyawadana. earlier on monday, the mortal remains of the Sri Lankan national reached colombo from Lahore airport, while an anti-terrorism court (atc) granted physical remand of 26 accused for 15 days for investigation. kumara’s remains were repatriated with state honours. shed two paisas against the greenback during the last two days. the depreciation during the ongoing fiscal year (Fy22) has been rs19.37, and rs16.64 in the current year 2021 (cy21). according to experts, the $3 billion deposit from Saudi arabia has failed to leave any positive impact despite expectations. they said that funds are a sort of operating reserve that can only give a temporary boost, but are not good enough to solve structural financial pressures. a day ago, the market recorded
some recovery in the rupee’s value; however, large imports kept the dollar demand higher. the rupee is under severe pressure due to a surge in import bill and widening trade deficit. the decline in State Bank of pakistan’s (SBp) official foreign exchange reserves are also another reason for the local currency’s deterioration. moreover, the pakistani rupee’s value against the uS dollar has fallen by 30.5pc during the incumbent pti-led government’s tenure, as per a report in the news.
