A day earlier, the premier, in an interview with a private television channel, said that the government wants accountability of all those who have embezzled public money. he said that investigation and accountability institutions in the country are now functioning independently. it is pertinent to mention here that the opposition parties’ alliance, pakistan democratic movement (pdm), has announced to hold a public meeting on november 30 in multan. separately, while speaking to a private news channel, minister for planning, development and special initiatives Asad umar said that opposition’s alliance – pakistan democratic movement (pdm) – should follow the guidelines issued by the ncoc and avoid large public gatherings. he urged the opposition leadership to refrain from doing politics on the coronavirus outbreak. the minister said that people should adopt standard operating procedures (sops). he added that during his public gathering in sukkur, he had fully followed the ncoc’s directions. similar sentiments were echoed by punjab’s health minister dr yasmin rashid, who urged the opposition parties to give priority to the health of masses and postpone public gatherings. Addressing a press conference on sunday, the provincial health minister said that non-adherence to sops has intensified the spread of the pandemic in the province. she said that by wearing face masks, the spread of the virus can be reduced by 70 per cent. she added that around 13,638 health professionals have been affected by coronavirus in the province so far.

According to the details issued by the ministry of foreign Affairs, the cfm meeting condemned in the “strongest possible terms the rights violations perpetrated by indian occupation forces […] and other such instances of terrorism that have been the source of unspeakable suffering for the innocent kashmiri people”. it also condemned the statesponsored terrorism and crimes against humanity carried out by indian troops in the region. the participants also denounced extrajudicial killings during fake encounters and search-and-cordon operations and demolition of houses and private properties as a form of collective punishment. A unanimous resolution also denounced the renewed use of pellet guns against innocent civilians, condemned the harassment of kashmiri women by indian troops. it deplored that new delhi had callously exploited the current covid-19 crisis to intensify its military crackdown and “further advance its unlawful occupation”.

the national command and operation centre (ncoc) was informed on sunday that 70 per cent coronavirus cases were present in five major cities of the country – rawalpindi, islamabad, karachi, hyderabad and peshawar. pakistan recorded 2,829 new cases and 43 deaths due to the covid-19 during the last 24 hours, taking the total cases to 395,185 and fatalities to 7,985. during the meantime, 2,257 patients recovered from the disease, leaving active cases at 47,390. during a meeting chaired

by minister for planning, development and special initiatives Asad umar, the forum learned that around 46 deaths were recorded in the past week, while 237 people were hospitalised every day. the meeting was also informed that the country had the required medical equipment and a proper supply was being managed. the forum directed for stringent enforcement measures to control the spread of the disease. the ncoc said that pakistan’s covid-19 positivity ratio has reached 7.1 per cent. the highest positivity ratio was observed in mirpur at 24.85 per cent, followed by hyderabad at 22.181 per cent and karachi

18.96 per cent. the positivity ratio in various federating units is as follows: Azad Jammu and kashmir (AJk), 16.58 per cent; balochistan, 9.12 per cent; gilgit-baltistan (gb) 5.56 per cent; islamabad 5.30 per cent; khyber pakhtunkhwa (kp) 5.31 per cent; punjab 3.45 per cent; and sindh 15.31 per cent. the meeting noted that 2,186 covid-19 patients across the country were critically ill, and the number was increasing sharply. According to ncoc’s data, 40,369 tests were conducted across the country during the past 24 hours, taking the tally of tested samples to 5,475,508.
