Sources in the opposition alliance have revealed that during the phone call, Shehbaz Sharif and Maulana fazlur rehman agreed to mobilise public through countrywide rallies under a fullfledged anti-government campaign against what they called ‘the worst inflation in Pakistan’s history’. “both the politicians agreed that it was time for all the opposition leaders to come out of their homes and join hands to oust imran khan-led regime by mobilising people in across the country,” a source said. later, Maulana fazlur rehman spoke to media while announcing that within
the next two weeks, the opposition will hold countrywide protests against the growing inflation. “as soon as we are done with the celebrations of the eid Milad un nabi (Saww), we will start a full-fledged campaign against inflation,” he said while speaking to the media after holding an information meeting with party members in islamabad. “we appeal to the entire nation to fully participate in the protests and rallies,” he said while giving details of how the government incurred debts and increased inflation in the country. taking to its official twitter account, the PMl-n confirmed that Shahbaz and fazl criticised the government’s policies during the phone call and have decided to launch a full-fledged campaign against “the worst inflation in the country’s history”.the two leaders agreed to join anti-government protests of other opposition parties. during the phone call, Shahbaz told fazl that leaders need to get out of their homes to “save the nation from inflation, unemployment, and the ongoing economic catastrophe across the country”.

the ministry of finance on Sunday, rejecting the news regarding failure of talks between Pakistan and the international Monetary fund (iMf), said there was not any deadlock with the iMf. according to a statement, negotiations between Pakistan and the iMf are moving forward positively. the statement, while mentioning that no timeline was set for at stage for conclusion of the talks, added that secretary finance division is leading the talks in wasington d.c.
while technical teams of both sides are continuing detailed discussions in virtual format after the exchange of relevant data sets. Similarly, finance Ministry Spokesman Muzammil aslam also released a statement saying that there was no truth in news about the deadlock, adding that the talks would resume from Monday and would continue uninterrupted as per schedule. “Minister for finance Shaukat tarin and State bank of Pakistan (SbP) governor reza baqir were attending meetings in new york while the secretary finance and his team were also engaged for talks in wash-

be recalled that finance Minister Shaukat tarin had flown to washington to meet with iMf managing director kristalina georgieva and uS assistant Secretary of State for South and central asia donald lu to conduct the talks. Pakistan had shared some statistics with the iMf on power and gas tariffs and tax collection and “they are validating the numbers we shared with them and will get back to us”, tarin had said while addressing a news conference in washington at what had ben reported as ‘the conclusion of his visit’.
