he Sindh government on Saturday issued an amended notification regarding Covid-19 restrictions in the province. According to the fresh notification issued by the Sindh home Department, inter-provincial public transport will continue its operations as per schedule in the province. Meanwhile, the Sindh government lifted the ban on pillion riding, which was imposed as part of lockdown restrictions in the province.
Addressing the media in Karachi on Saturday afternoon, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Murtaza Wahab said the government is lifting the ban imposed on pillion riding in the province. “Shops, hotels, wedding halls, or institutions violating [Covid] SOPs will be sealed for 30 days,” he warned. While responding to criticism by some quarters of the federal government on the new lockdown, Wahab said, “This isn’t an issue of the economy, but of health; the focus should be on convincing people, not on encouraging chaos.” “No one from PPP issued statements over the announcement to enforce a lockdown in Punjab. Those in Karachi could not comprehend the situation in Punjab and likewise, those in Islamabad can not comprehend Karachi’s ground realities.” The spokesperson added that the provincial government intends to work

along with the federal government and elaborated that CM Murad spoke with NCOC chief Asad Umar and SAPM Dr Faisal Sultan and “nowhere during the conversation did they object to a lockdown”. “A matter related to humanity shouldn’t be turned into a political war; we must think about saving people from the disease,” he remarked. earlier on Friday, CM Murad Ali Shah had announced the imposition of a lockdown in the province till August 8 as cases had raised in the province and the port city – fuelled by the highly transmissible Delta variant of the pandemic. Murad had announced that the aim of the lockdown was to reduce pressure on the hospitals and improve healthcare facilities, overcome the spread of the variant, and increase the number of vaccinations. On Saturday, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari criticised the federal government for its criticism of the lockdown in Sindh, saying that Prime Minister Imran Khan and his ministers would be responsible if the Covid situation in Karachi became similar to India’s. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Bilawal said: “If coronavirus spreads in the province or in Karachi like [it did] in India then Khan sahab and his ministers will be responsible.” he added that the current back and forth is sending a message of “not one but two Pakistans” and pointed out the lockdowns placed by the ruling party on various cities in Punjab in the wake of rising cases.

FO CONDeMNS INDIA’S POlITICISATION OF CrICKeT news desk
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday expressed its displeasure over reports of India’s cricket board forcing members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to withdraw their players from the Kashmir Premier league (KPl). The PCB said in its statement that it would “raise this matter at the appropriate ICC forum and also reserves the right to take any further action that is available to us within the ICC charter”. “The PCB considers that the BCCI has brought the game into disrepute by issuing warnings to multiple ICC members to stop their retired cricketers from featuring in the KPl, further threatening [them that] they will not be allowed entry into India for cricket-related work. Such conduct from the BCCI is completely unacceptable, against the preamble of the spirit of cricket and sets a dangerous precedence, which can neither be tolerated nor ignored,” the statement reads. On Saturday, Former South Africa opener herschelle Gibbs accused the Board of Control for Cricket in India of “threatening” him of denying him all cricketing activities in the future in India if he participates in the upcoming Kashmir Premier league. Gibbs said: “Completely unnecessary of the BCCI to bring their political agenda with Pakistan into the equa-

Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PMl-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has demanded a probe into the reports that the government purchased the most expensive liquefied natural gas (lNG) in Pakistan’s history. The PMl-N president, who is also the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, while quoting an international media report about Pakistan’s lNG purchase said on Saturday that it validates the opposition’s claim of alleged embezzlement in the procurement of the lNG. The revelation has proved that the government is constantly “misrepresenting the nation”. Shehbaz said that PMl-N was buying lNG for $8 while the PTI-led government is buying for $15 dollars per metric million British thermal unit (MMBTU). “The government is paying an additional $22.5 million on the import of one lNG ship,” Shehbaz stated in a statement, adding that an additional $95 million will have to be paid for the import of four lNG ships. he said the public will have to pay $15 per MMBTU of lNG this month, which is an injustice.
tion and trying to prevent me [from] playing in the KPl. [They are] also threatening me saying they won’t allow me entry into India for any cricket-related work. ludicrous.” Following the threat from the BCCI, all foreign cricketers withdrew from the event which is set to begin on August 6. The six foreign cricketers, who have excused themselves from the KPl, are herschelle Gibbs, Matt Prior, Phil Mustard, Owais Shah, Tenu Best and Monty Panesar. Taking stock of the new situation and considering the security of the foreign players, the KPl management apologised to the remaining foreign players. however, KPl President Arif Malik said that the tournament will go ahead as scheduled, adding that Pakistani cricketers will participate. FO CONDEMNS INDIA’S POLITICISATION OF CRICKET: The Foreign Office condemned the “politicisation” of cricket by India and termed it an “unfortunate and regrettable” development. In a statement on Twitter, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid hafeez Chaudhri said that depriving young Kashmiri players of the opportunity to share the dressing room with big names in cricket is “unfortunate and regrettable”. “India’s politicisation of cricket cannot be condemned enough,” he added.

he alleged that cheap lNG deals were available during the Covid-19 crisis but the PTI government deliberately delayed it despite being reminded by PMl-N that cheap lNG could be purchased during the Covid-19 crisis. In September 2021, he maintained, the government will pay $387 million for importing 11 lNG ships. he said that Trafigura – one of the world’s largest independent lNG traders – had offered cheap lNG in writing but it was not accepted by the PTI government. “A cheaper lNG deal would have saved Pakistan 35.2 million
dollars per ship,” Shehbaz said, adding if the contract for cheap lNG had been signed, the country would have imported 12 cargoes by now and saved a total of $422.4 million. Moreover, the opposition leader said that the PTI government could order at least 14 cargoes but was deliberately importing less and due to this strategy, expensive electricity was being generated from the furnace oil. To add insult to injury, he said, that is why gas is not available in the country for the CNG sector as well as the industry.
