Rime minister shehbaz sharif sunday told his indian counterpart, narendra modi, that peaceful and cooperative ties between the two neighbours are indispensable for the prosperity of the people. in response to the letter sent by modi to shehbaz congratulating him on becoming the prime minister, the premier said Pakistan is committed to regional peace and stability.

shehbaz sharif said seeking peaceful resolution of all issues including long-standing kashmir dispute between the two nucleararmed neighbours. Pakistan’s sacrifices and efforts to eradicate the menace of terrorism are well-known and have been recognised globally, shehbaz told modi. on tuesday, Pm shehbaz thanked indian premier narendra modi for felicitations on becoming the 23rd prime minister of Pakistan as he sought peaceful resolution of conflicts between india and Pakistan for the sake of

socio-economic development of people. the newly elected prime minister made these remarks in response to the message shared by modi on twitter wherein he congratulated the Pakistani premier on getting elected as the new chief executive. “Congratulations to h e mian muhammad shehbaz sharif on his election as the Prime minister of Pakistan. india desires peace and stability in a region free of terror, so that we can focus on our development challenges and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people,” modi had written on twitter a day earlier. in his response shared on twitter, Pm shehbaz said that Pakistan desired peaceful settlement of outstanding disputes, including Jammu and kashmir. “Pakistan’s sacrifices in fighting terrorism are well-known,” shehbaz told the indian premier. during his speech in parliament after becoming the premier with the support of 174 lawmakers, shehbaz offered an olive branch to new delhi, saying that Pakistan wanted a “better relationship with india”. But he had also cautioned that no lasting peace would be possible without a resolution to kashmir ’s status. “i would suggest Prime minister modi let us resolve the kashmir issue and divert all our energies to bring prosperity to our countries,” he had said.

Chief of army staff (Coas) general Qamar Javed Bajwa sunday said that army draw its strength from people and any effort to create wedge between army and population won’t be tolerated. the Coas expressed these views while interacting with the garrison officers and veterans in two separate interactive sessions held in lahore garrison. the Coas visited lahore garrison over the weekend. on his arrival, the Coas was received by Corps Commander lieutenant general muhammad abdul aziz. Coas appreciated lahore Corps for maintaining high standards of operational preparedness and training.

among the coalition partners. according to sources, former president asif ali Zardari has been against the People’s Party’s joining the cabinet of Prime minister shehbaz sharif. however, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is supporting the idea to become part of the federal cabinet. the PPP and Pml-n, two major parties in the alliance, have differences over distribution of the constitutional offices, according to sources. People’s Party sources said that the Pml-n

have rigid stance over allocation of key ministries. “the PPP wants ministries of its choice and constitutional offices in the new government,” party sources said. the Pml-n, however, avoiding to give the PPP the portfolios it wants, sources further said. People’s Party also wants its man as the Chairman of the senate, but the Pml-n has not yet promised to give the top office of the upper house to the coalition partner, according to sources. earlier, there were reports that the PPP had decided to become part of the federal cabinet after talks with the Pml-n. Presently, Raja Pervaiz ashraf has been elected the speaker of the national assembly. despite multiple meetings between PPP and Pml-n, the new coalition set up failed to iron out differences over the formation of federal cabinet. moreover, the Jui-F leader maulana Fazlur Rehman is also unhappy over refusal of PPP and Pml-n to award the slot of president to him. other coalition partners like mQm is also unhappy on the trajectory of the decision making among the coalition partners. PPP likely to get foreign ministry: Rana sanaullah Pml-n leader Rana sanaullah on sunday said that following consultation between the allied parties of the government it has been decided that PPP will likely get to head the foreign ministry.

Coas said that law will take its course. “Perpetrators, who are under arrest, will be brought to justice. no one can be allowed to take law into their hands,” the Coas assured.
