(CCPO) umar Sheikh. “They (rapists) should be given exemplar y punishments. In my opinion, they should be hanged at the chowk (piazza),” he said, adding that this punishment should be reserved for rapists and those who abuse children. “unforunately, when we had the discussion, [we were] told it would not be internationally acceptable,” he remarked about public hangings. “They said the GSP-Plus trade status given to us by the european union will be affected.” The premier added that one other option was to “chemically or surgically castrate” rapists, according to the degree of the crime, “as is done by many countries”. “We need fresh legislation to permanently sterlise such [criminals],” he said, while noting that the prime suspect of

rIMe Minister Imran Khan on Monday said that rapists should be given the most severe punishments, such as hanging them publicly or chemically castrating them, to curb sexual violence in the country. This was said by the premier in response to a question about the motorway gang-rape case on a television interview. The incident had resulted in outrage across the public, and #PubicallyHangrapists trended on twitter after the incident. There had been an outcry over both the incident itself and the victim-blaming comments from the Lahore Capital City Police Officer

the case had previously been involved in other rape incidents. The PM also lamented the lack of a sex offender registry in the country. “World history tells when you increase fahashi (vulgarity) in the society, two things happen: sex crimes increase and the family system breaks down,” he added, saying it was the responsibility of the country to fight these sorts of incidents as well as the police. Compared to the West, “our family system is intact. We can fix our justice system and the institutions but if our family system breaks down, we will not be able to rebuild it,” the premier stressed, furthering stating that New delhi too has become the “rape capital” of the world due to obscenity in Bollywood. In another example he cited, he said that the

divorce rate in the united Kingdom is up to 70 per cent. The premier added that he had pushed for Turkish blockbuster ertuğrul to be broadcast on Pakistani television as he wanted to prove that Islamic and historical family programmes could be popular in the country too. This was his way of using the entertainment industry to combat some of the aforementioned “vulgarity”. In the same interview, the PM talked about the opportunity to fix the issues in Karachi, and shed light on the government ’s efforts to resolve Karachi’s municipal and infrastructure issues. “Karachi is Pakistan’s engine of growth. When Karachi sneezes, the entire Pakistan catches cold,” he added.

GOVT TO TABLE BILL TO PUNISH SEX OFFENDERS WITH CASTRATION ISLAMABAD: MIAN ABRAR

Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved a draft law to make the perpetrators of rape a horrible example through castration punishment. Senator Faisal Javed Khan told Pakistan Today that the prime minister had approved a draft law and the Law Ministry has been tasked to formalise the new law to make the culprits horrible examples. He said that it has also been decided to improve prosecution to bring the culprits to justice. “The prime minister is much concerned over a sharp rise in such cases. Without punishing the culprits and making them horrible examples, the prime minister believes we will not have deterrence against such crimes,” he said. When asked how the government would be able to bring new laws, Senator Faisal said that the government would also take the opposition parties on board to get the laws passed. “Since it is a common cause, we hope that the opposition must support the bill,” the senator said. He said that the accused of rape should be hanged in public and the motorway tragedy has shaken the entire nation. He said that the rape incident on motorway was shocking and the accused of sexual abuse should be given exemplary punishments.

Nawaz failed to corroborate treatment claim, IHC told ISLAMABAD TLTP

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was given sufficient time and opportunities to provide necessary medical reports to corroborate his claims of undergoing treatment in London but he failed to do so, the Punjab government said in a report submitted in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday.

The report said that on February 25 last, the provincial cabinet discussed the matter at length and after considering the opinion of a special medical board, the recommendations of a committee formed to look into the matter, and relevant record as well as the law, it was decided that the circumstances of the case do not merit the concession of continued suspension of Sharif’s sentence. “Furthermore, the cabinet observed that sufficient

time and opportunities were afforded to the applicant to establish continuation of his indisposition, but the applicant was unable to provide required medical reports to establish such medical condition,” the report said. On September 10, the IHC Court had ruled that it would decide on September 15 whether former prime minister Nawaz would get any relief or not. A two-judge bench comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Mohsin

Akhtar Kayani heard appeals filed by the PML-N supremo against his conviction in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield cases. The bench questioned how the court could proceed with his plea without his surrendering before it and directed both his lawyer Khawaja Harris and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor to forward their arguments in this regard on next hearing.

A suspect in the motorway gang-rape incident arrested in the morning has confessed to raping the victim, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar usman Buzdar has confirmed. The chief minister, through a tweet, identified the suspect as one Shafqat Ali and said his dNA had matched with the samples collected from the crime scene. “Our entire team is also continuously making efforts for the arrest of suspect Abid Ali, which is expected soon,” he said, referring to the primary suspect in the case.
