Abbas in Bahawalnagar district. He said police initially only had the information that the DnA samples collected from the crime scene matched with the samples in government records of a minor suspect collected in some other case. "We dug through the records to obtain details of the suspect and got hold of his identity card and [cellphone] number. We traced him to his address and obtained all the details. "After checking the record we had previously and the phones he had, we found that he had four sims registered in his name but he also had another sim not in his name. Geofencing confirmed his location and we were also able to reach his accomplice through this." IGP Ghani said police were "95-96pc" sure of the identity of Ali's accomplice, whose presence at the crime scene was shown by telephone data. They were also able to obtain his address and CnIC number. "We were ready by today afternoon to conduct raids at their houses and arrest them but we found they were not in Lahore but in a village, Qila Sattar Shah, in district Sheikhupura," he said.

Lahore CCpo iSSued Show-CauSe notiCe NEWS DESK: Inspector General of Police (IG)-Punjab Inam Ghani has issued a show-cause notice to Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Umer Sheikh over his remarks in which he had favoured the culprits and blamed the victim of the Lahore motorway gang-rape. This was informed by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar during a press conference on Saturday. While announcing major investigation breakthroughs in the case, CM Buzdar, who was flanked by the IGP and two ministers, said the CCPO had given an "irrelevant statement". "The IG has issued him a show-cause notice [for this statement] and directed him to submit a reply within seven days." Buzdar said that legal action would be taken against the CCPO after the submission of his reply. Two ‘robbers’ allegedly raped a woman at gunpoint in Gujjarpura area on Wednesday while she was waiting for help on the motorway after her car developed a fault. In his statement on the incident on Thursday, the CCPO implied that the victim shared responsibility for her rape. He claimed that the victim, who is a foreign national, thought it was safe to travel at night with her kids. He also said the victim was at fault for "choosing the route she took and not checking her petrol tank" before heading out. Soon after the comment was made on a TV channel, Twitter burst with thousands of users demanding removal of the CCPO with trending hashtags such as #RemoveCCPOLahore and #DismissCCPOLahore.

Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Minister Asad Umar, announced on Saturday that the phase-3 trial of a Chinese vaccine for the coronavirus will begin in Pakistan in 10 days. “Pakistan will be participating in phase 3 trials of a Chinese developed vaccine for coronavirus,” tweeted the minister. He added that the “trials in Pakistan will start in about 10 days.” earlier this week it was reported that the falling Covid19 infection numbers in Pakistan will not affect a Phase 3 clinical trial for a potential vaccine being developed by China’s CanSino Biologics. The report had also said that trials will begin this month, according to officials running the trial. Pakistan’s drug regulator last month gave the goahead for the country’s first Phase 3 clinical trial for CanSino’s candidate, Ad5nCoV, which will be led by the government-run national Institute of Health (nIH) along

Start of intra-afghan talks result of combined efforts: FM ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that commencement of intra-Afghan negotiations is the fruit of “our combined efforts.” Addressing the opening ceremony of the intraAfghan negotiations through video link, the foreign minister said that Pakistan has long maintained that there is no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan. Political solution is the only way forward, he added. The FM said, “We are gratified that our perspective is now widely shared across the international community. We are also gratified that we have fulfilled our part of the responsibility.” The foreign minister noted that Pakistani citizens and law enforcement officials have rendered invaluable sacrifices in the war against terrorism. The foreign minister paid tribute to Pakistan's efforts for bringing about peace in Afghanistan, saying that everyone's joint efforts are paying off as both sides take to the table for talks. He said that durable peace in Afghanistan is in Pakistan's interest as well. The foreign minister said that it is now for the Afghan leaders to seize this historic opportunity, work together constructively, and secure an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement. He said that spoilers, from within and from without, will pose formidable challenges. Constant vigilance will be required to guard against their machinations, he added. Qureshi reassured that Pakistan will always be in full support and solidarity with Afghans as they continue their momentous journey on the path of peace, security and development. He said Pakistan will always support a peaceful, stable, united, democratic, prosperous and sovereign Afghanistan, at peace with itself and with its neighbours. Suggesting a four-pronged way forward, the minister called upon the international community and all concerned to come forward and continue to support the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process while respecting the consensus that emerges from the intra-Afghan negotiations. Secondly, he called upon the global community to ensure that Afghanistan neither witnesses the violence of the days in the past again nor becomes a space for elements to harm other countries beyond its borders. with pharmaceutical company AJM — the local representative of CanSino. “We are planning to launch the project on September 20, or at the latest within this month,” said Hassan Abbas zaheer, who is heading the trial for AJM. The Ad5nCoV vaccine and placebo injections are due to be received in Pakistan next week. Daily positive cases in Pakistan peaked at more than 6,000 in June, but have since fallen sharply, with only 426 confirmed new cases detected on September 8 — taking its total to 299,659 and 6,359 deaths. zaheer said the low positive rates did not indicate Covid-19 was no longer present in the country, and the potential for people vaccinated in the trial to be infected was still adequate for testing their immunity. “We feel people are still getting infected but not getting tested, so the virus is still there,” he said. Pakistan, a country of more than 220 million people, has been testing between 20,000 to 30,000 daily.
