s the country recorded its highest number of daily coronavirus infections since July on each of the last four days, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday urged the nation to strictly adhere to the health guidelines to curtail the transmission of the contagion disease and announced new restrictions on public events, including the suspension of his party’s political rallies. “We have cancelled our jalsas and will ask other [parties] to do the same because that is one place where the virus spreads rapidly,” he said, adding that the recent campaigns in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) seem to have resulted in a rise in the number of cases. “this is the time to take precautions. If we do [adopt restrictions], we can slow down the virus. Just like earlier we were saved due to following precautions, that time has come again,” the prime minister said in a televised address. His address comes as the country reported 2,128 infections on Monday — the fourth day that the daily increase has been above 2,000. the authorities conducted 29,511 tests in the last 24 hours, detecting a positivity ratio of 7.21 per cent, compared with between 2 per cent and 3 per cent during most of the last four months. the kind of lockdown they imposed […] they have still not been able to recover from it,” he said. the premier ruled out closing anything that “affects people’s livelihoods”, including factories and shops, but warned that the tiger Force will report violations of soPs. He added that restaurants would be kept open for now, but they will be required to ensure social distancing. regarding schools, the premier said that they would observe the situation another week. “If we observe that the virus is spreading through schools, then we will extend winter vacations and cut summer vacations short to a month,” he announced. Imran observed the entire world was experiencing a second wave of the virus and in

some countries such as the Us and Great Britain, infections had surpassed the numbers seen during the first wave. “some Western countries are imposing lockdowns again to control the spread of the disease,” he noted. He said the government had been monitoring the trends of the spread of the virus in the country, but noted that Pakistan had been “very lucky” during the first wave of covid-19. “We were specially blessed by allah. We are a very lucky nation; look at Iran and India. We managed to avoid the destruction that coronavirus caused in other countries,” he said. PM Imran said that not only had Pakistan been able to avoid widespread deaths, but its economy was also salvaged when compared to other nations. “But sadly we have seen that our cases have risen by four times in the past two weeks. the 6-7 deaths that we were having per day have climbed to 25,” he said. PDM TO GO AHEAD WITH PESHAWAR RALLY: the Pakistan democratic Movement (PdM) has announced to go ahead with its rally in Peshawar on november 22, 2020, despite PM Imran announcing earlier that jalsas will not be held in Pakistan in light of the rising number of coronavirus infections. “the PdM’s november 22 rally in Peshawar will be held as per schedule,” the media coordinator for the opposition parties’ coalition, abdul Jalil Jan, said Monday. Jan stressed that the PdM’s high command had already decided to hold all the meetings. “We will not allow the rulers to hide behind the coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

Pakistan today learnt on Monday that Prime Minister Imran Khan had green-lighted to engage the tlP leaders. However, failure to negotiate would have given the police and the administration the authority to carry out an operation against the protesters. reportedly, it had been decided that protesters would not be allowed to enter Islamabad and the red Zone; rather they would be offered an alternative to their demand of allowing them to protest outside the French embassy in the red Zone, which is normally a nogo area for protesters.

Police and administration officials have also consulted with the rawalpindi administration, which had also been given the authority to conduct a full operation if the talks failed. the administration had also shut down internet and mobile phone services for more than 24 hours to prevent the organisers from coordinating with each other, but were restored around lunchtime on Monday. similarly, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting senator shibli Faraz said that PM Imran has already raised the issue of blasphemous caricatures at the world forums.
