NTER-SERvICES Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Major General Babar Iftikhar has said that India is involved in promoting anti-Pakistan agenda in six domains, which include abetting terrorism, targeting econ-

omy, using diplomacy, fomenting chaos, Kashmir and social issues. Addressing a press conference on Monday, the ISPR chief said that European Union (EU) based DisinfoLab has exposed New Delhi’s planned propaganda against Islamabad on the behest of the state of India. the international watch, while an unfounded propaganda was unleashed in favour of revocation of Article 370. He said that the EU parliamentarians were invited to visit the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) in personal capacity, but they were portrayed as the EU representatives. Regarding social issues, Major General Iftikhar said that false propaganda was launched through EU Chronicles on minorities and women issues. Anti-Pakistan resolutions were moved in the European Parliaments to tarnish Pakistan’s image in all these areas, he added. He stressed that the DisinfoLab report viewed this anti-Pakistan campaign at number six on the scale of one to six, which is the highest level of disinformation spread by India. Major General Iftikhar stated that the EU disinformation lab report has manifested Pakistan’s claims and said that the world is now talking about it. “Even if you mute it, the truth always prevails,” the ISPR DG said, adding that the report is a thirdparty report. He said that findings of the report serve as a call to actions for decision makers to put in place relevant frameworks to sanction actors and governments abusing international institutions, influencing decision makers and misleading the world opinion.

PM launches Pakistan's first instant digital payment system ISLAMABAD STAFF REPORT

In an effort to shift the country’s economy from cash to digital, Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched Pakistan's first instant digital payment system 'Raast'. Addressing the launching ceremony on Monday, the PM said that the 'Raast' initiative will help boost formal economy, financial inclusion of women, and eradicate poverty from the country. "We are trying to alleviate poverty through Ehsaas Programme and the launch of 'Raast' programme will help us achieve this goal," Imran Khan said, adding that the programme will boost the Ehsaas programme, particularly its mobile wallet, extend its reach to the women in the rural areas. The PM observed that the cash economy is the biggest hurdle in tapping the true potential of the 220 million population of Pakistan. "Cash economy badly affects tax collection, which is evident from the fact that only two million out of 220 million people are tax filers, while 30,000 of taxpayers make 70pc of the total tax collection in the country," the premier

‘Responsibility, precautions’ imperative to counter Covid-19, says minister ISLAMABAD STAFF REPORT

With the second wave of the coronavirus running rampant, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Monday once again urged the nation to adopt precautionary measures to curb the spread of the second wave. In the last 24 hours, the government portal keeping track of the contagious disease posted 1,877 fresh infections against 34,524 tests with a significantly lowered positivity ratio of 5.44 percent against the 7 percent transmission rate in the preceding month. In a series of tweets, Umar observed that “health consequences are strongly correlated with our decisions and choices”. “When the second wave accelerated [in November], we closed high risk areas identified by our analysis in the last week of November,” he recalled. “In the first week of December,” he said, “hospital admissions peaked. In the second week, patients on oxygen/vents peaked. In the third week, mortality peaked and then declined. Decisions & results are

highly correlated.” The data illustrated how coronavirus health consequences correlated with personal choices and decisions, he said. “Hence it’s important that we all take responsibility and take precautions. If we do the right things, we shall continue to safeguard lives and livelihoods.” “The devastation unfolding in countries like the USA and UK these days, where there are more cases & Covid deaths than at any time in the first wave, shows the danger that could face us if we do not continue to do the right things, with both the state and citizens playing their role,” he added. VACCINATION: Meanwhile, China’s state-backed pharmaceutical giant, Sinopharm, has sought permission from Islamabad for the emergency use of its vaccine in the country. The company has applied for registration to the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), submitting the complete data of clinical trials of its vaccine to it. The government has already announced an intent to purchase 1.2 million doses of the vaccine from China.

In December, the federal cabinet approved $250 million in funding to buy coronavirus vaccines, initially to cover the most vulnerable 5 per cent of the population, including the frontline health workers. Meanwhile, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has announced to have opened registrations for frontline healthcare workers who are set to receive the first doses of the vaccine. Staff in both public and private health facilities will be vaccinated, NCOC announced on its website and gave an elaborate definition for who qualified as a healthcare worker. “All staff of Covid-19 hospitals (public and private sector) and isolation centers,” the notification said. “All staff includes clerical, administrative and support staff [sanitary workers, guards] in addition to doctors, nurses, paramedics.” The parliamentary health secretary told Radio Pakistan last week the government was expecting its first vaccine dose by the end of January, and that it was preparing a database of frontline health workers who would be vaccinated for free.

noted. "With an increase in revenue collection, the government will create extra space to spend on human development – education, health, clean drinking water etc." He said that Digital Pakistan is a step forward from a cash economy towards the where the country can take maximum advantage of its 220 million population. The PM congratulated State Bank of Pakistan for efficiently working on the 'Raast' initiative and for convincing overseas Pakistanis to send remittances through formal channels. He said foreign remittances have improved significantly as a result of these efforts. "Our current account deficit has become surplus, which has reduced pressure on rupee." The premier hoped a move towards Digital Pakistan would help put Pakistan back on the path of prosperity. Raast is part of Prime Minister Imran Khan's Digital Pakistan vision aimed at including poor segments of the society in the formal economy. Raast would be used not only to settle small-value retail payments in real time but will also provide cheap and universal access to all players in the financial industry, including banks and fintechs.
