COMMISSIONER LAHORE, RUDA CEO REVIEW BAB-E-PAKISTAN PROJECT

AT RUDA’s headquarters a joint meeting between CEO RUDA Imran Amin and Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa was held to review the progress on ongoing underpass from Kalma Chowk till Bab-e-Pakistan.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore Rafia Haider, representatives of allied departments like WASA, LWMC, PHA etc were also present on the occasion along with the Engineering Executive Directors of both CBD and RUDA.

Mr Imran Amin highlighted the efforts being made by RUDA to add on the solid waste and water treatment along with the initiatives being taken to enhance the green cover through afforestation.

He while highlighting the importance of historical site of Bab-e-Pakistan, said that CBD is making the national monument there which will also house a museum of future, thereby blending history to the posterity.

“The maximum area of Bab-e-Pakistan is going to be green, which is one of the first monuments of Pakistan where first Muslim Refuge camp was settled in the aftermath of independence of Pakistan,” he added.

Exhibition ‘Photographic Images and Matter: Japanese Prints of 1970s’ inaugurated

The Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan in collaboration with the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) have showcased an impressive exhibition of “Photographic Images and Matter: Japanese Prints of the 1970s” here at the premises of the National Art Gallery.

WADA Mitsuhiro, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, inaugurated the exhibition on Wednesday 8th February in the presence of many guests including artists and art students. The Japan Foundation’s newly organized travelling exhibition “Photographic Images and Matter: Japanese Prints of the 1970s” which is curated by the curator Kyoji TAKIZAWA focuses on print expressions from the 1970s as seen in the work of 14 artists who helped develop a print movement in the world of Japanese contemporary art. Divided into two sections, the exhibition showcases “The Age of Photographic Images,” which focuses on the use of photographic images in the print medium, and “Images of Autonomous Matter,” which focuses on works that were shaped by the intentions of matter.The exhibition aims to give a deeper understanding of contemporary art trends of the 1970s which were triggered by the print medium. The artworks of 14 eminent Japanese artists were displayed in the exhibition. Ambassador WADA Mitsuhiro, while speaking on the occasion of inaugural ceremony, said that this exhibition provides a good opportunity to the viewers to take a glimpse of the Japanese prints of the 1970s, an era in which new trend emerged in contemporary Japanese art due to a focus on photographic images and matter. He hoped that the viewer will gain a deeper understanding of contemporary art trends of the 1970s which were triggered by the print medium. The Japan Foundation continuously conducts the “Traveling Exhibitions Program” to introduce Japanese arts and culture to overseas. This exhibition is one of the Exhibitions which is part of this programme.

Death toll from Gilgit bus car collision reaches 30

Death toll in a collision between a passenger bus and a car in the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region has reached 30, government officials and police said. The accident occurred after the over-speeding bus collided with a car near the Shatial check post in the Kohistan district of the region, regional information minister, Fatehullah Khan, told the media. The passenger bus and the car fell into the ravine after the accident, said the official, adding that at least 45 passengers were onboard the bus when the incident happened. Rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the victims to a nearby hospital. Road accidents are quite frequent in Pakistan mainly due to poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and unprofessional driving.
