Highly skilled guitarist, coming from the world of the classical guitar. One of the finest players with this musical instrument, Walter Lupi has already recorded eight albums, some of these with important labels as “BMG Ricordi” (“Bhakta Priya” 1990 - “Terra” 1994) and “Acoustic Music Records” (“Shorts” 2000). He has participated in main guitar festivals in Italy, France, Germany, Croatia and Hungary, sharing the stage with many famous names standing out all the time for the feeling of his playing and for a neat and clean touch. After a period dedicated to research of experimental music (“Spirali” 2001 and “Music Experience” I and II (2004-06) ), Walter Lupi‘s latest releases “Zumiè”(2007) and “Sulle Corde dell‘Anima” (2008), both produced by himself, enhance even more these qualities; this last two records represent for him a return to a soloist dimension and testimonies an even further musical and stylistic evolution. Flatfınger Walter Lupi
Che significa il termine Flatfinger? Significa utilizzare l‘indice della mano destra in sostituzione del plettro. Quali vantaggi offre? Dare ritmo alla melodia aggiungendovi l‘accompagnamento (strumming), la percussione, e avere la libertà di improvvisare con tutti questi elementi. Come funziona? La differenza sostanziale sta nello sfruttare il dorso dell‘unghia in caduta sulle corde per avere dei “battiti” in più da destinare sia alla melodia che all‘accompagnamento. “In 1970 I started playing the electric guitar focusing on the rhythmic parts but after a few years I turned to the classical guitar playing in this way for many years two different styles: strumming, with the pick on the electric guitar and finger-style on the classic and acoustic guitar. Since the last seventh years, I began to play combining this two styles and the result is this technique I’ve called Flatfinger and now it is my main way of play guitar..!” What does Flatfinger mean? It means the use of the tip of your index finger instead of a pick. What can we use it for? Give rhythm to the melody adding strumming and percussion and also improvise keeping all these elements together. How does it work? The main difference is that we also use the back of the nail to hit the strings on the down beat combined with the normal plucking on the up beat.

„1970 begann ich E-Gitarre zu spielen, und beschäftigte mich dabei vor allem mit der Rhythmik. Später, nachdem ich mich der klassischen Gitarre zugewendet hatte, habe ich einige Zeit zwei verschiedene Stile gespielt: Strumming mit Plektrum auf der E-Gitarre, aber auch Fingerstyle auf der akustischen Gitarre. Vor gut sieben Jahren habe ich dann angefangen, beide Stile zu verschmelzen, bis ich schließlich diese Technik entwickelt habe, die ich „Flatfinger“ nenne – die Technik, den ich mittlerweile am meisten benutze.“ Flatfinger – was bedeutet das? Flatfinger heißt, die Spitze des Zeigefinger anstelle eines Plektrums zu benutzen. Und was bringt mir das? Mehr Rhythmus in der Melodie durch Strumming und Perkussion, und neue Möglichkeiten, mit diesen Elementen zu jonglieren. Wie funktioniert das? Der größte Unterschied: für den Abschlag benutzen wir die Rückseite des Fingernagels, während wir den normalen Anschlag für die Aufwärtsbewegung verwenden.
