IMPROVE YOUR BANDEJA UPLOAD YOUR “BANDEJA” TO ANOTHER LEVEL

In # 1 of the magazine we are going to talk about the “bandeja”, what is the “bandeja” hit?, what is it used for?, when do we use this hit?, in which part of the court do I use this hit? And we will give you advice so that you can carry out this hit depending on your level.

What is the bandeja?

When do we make this hit?

The bandeja is a blow in principle defensive (unless you are Cristian Gutiérrez). The biggest mistake that is made with the bandeja is to try to attack the ball since we are almost always moving backwards and the position of our body is not comfortable to play an offensive ball.

We use this hit when we are close to the net and the opponent throws us a lob. We must move backwards with lateral steps in search of that lob to hit it before it bounces.

What is it for?

In the picture I’ve marked an area from the court with another color so you can see in the areas that you can use the bandeja. That area I call “THE SWAMP”, the less time we spend in that area much better (or we will be eaten by the crocodiles).

The bandeja is used mainly so that the opponent does not remove the net from us with his lob and to keep us in attack position.

1 - Go back before the opponent throws us the lob, leaving the net uncovered and giving the opponent option to play at our feet.

2 - Go back for the ball running backwards instead of running with side steps.

3 - Hit the ball in a front position and not sideways.

4 - After hitting the ball staying in the “SWAMP” looking where my shot went and not running towards the net.

TECHNIQUE

We are going to give you some tips so you can improve your bandeja and get the most out of this shot depending on your level.

1. Waiting position Generally when the tray is made I come from the net (volley position), therefore the padel racket has to be at chestchin height.

Important. Racket at chin height.

2. Preparation and adjustments of feet-body

Once we see that a lob has been launched we prepare the bandeja hit.

Important. Arm perpendicular to the ground.

• I raise both hands above the head as if I were holding a shelf and in front of the body preferably with my elbows bent.

• I profile sideways and move towards the “SWAMP” area looking for the ball.

• As we improve, the two previous steps must be done at the same time to gain time in the displacement.

3. Impact point • Impact point. The impact point must be outside my body and on the side, that is, I must not get under the ball to hit it.

• I must try to hit the ball at the height of the face (tray at the height of the EAR, so that we do not forget!)

• Preferably whenever possible, it is interesting to hit the ball in front of the body, that is, between where my body is and the net, so the blow can be more effective.

• When hitting the ball, I need to turn the waist-shoulders.

In this way (apart from the fact that the shot will be much firmer and safer) we will avoid elbow injuries because we are not working only with the arm and wrist, we work with a chain of movement from the upper body to the feet. FROM PADELINSIDE WE DO NOT WANT INJURIES!!)

4. Termination

This is where we finish the shot. You have to try to pullstretch the arm after the impact as far forward as possible passing in front of the chest to give the shot a good depth.

Every month we will propose you a technique challenge so that you can evaluate on which level you are, depending on the exercises. They will always be accompanying the article of the EXPERT, in this way you can put into practice what is explained.

Let’s go for the first one!!

This CHALLENGE consists of three parts, depending on your level you can choose one or another, but we advise you to do all three and have more options to test yourselves.

1º - 50 hits of bandeja The opponents throw us the ball from the opposite field.

The player who is going to take the test is positioned in the “SWAMP” (you already know, halfway down the court) and chooses the side where he wants to take the test (right or left). In the opposite field we make some marks (at the opposite side from where he’s taking the test), where they will have to put (throw directly into those marks) at least 40 of the 50 balls that hit with the bandeja!

2º - 50 hits of bandeja The opponents throw us the ball from the opposite field.

The player who is going to take the test is positioned close to the net and chooses the side where he wants to take the test (right or left). In the opposite field, in the opposite side we make some marks, where they will have to put (throw directly into those marks) at least 40 of the 50 balls that hit with the tray!

WE COMPLICATE IT A LITTLE MORE!!

In this test the player will have to touch the net always after each hit of the bandeja, that is, start on the net, move to hit the ball and touch the net again, all 50 balls!

3º - 50 hits of bandeja The opponents throw us the ball from the opposite field.

The player who is going to take the test is positioned close to the net and chooses the side where he wants to take the test (right or left). In the opposite field, in the parallel and in the cross we put some marks, where they will have to put (throw directly into those marks) at least 40 of the 50 balls that hit the tray!

WE COMPLICATE IT A LITTLE MORE!!

In this test the player in addition to having to touch the net between bandeja and bandeja (as in Test 2), must alternate the direction of the balls between the parallel and the crossed, one and one respectively being able to choose the direction of the ball when he starts, all 50 balls!

PadelInside - How old did you start playing padel?

Miguel Lamperti – When I was 12 years old.

PI. - Remember your first game?

M.L. - It was because an ex-brother-in-law gave me a padel racket that weighed 510 gr. and a man invited me to play at a club called ‘The Best’, they had to invite me to everything.

PI. - What padel racket do you use? Soft, hard, weight..etc ... (without entering brands) M.L. - I play with a hybrid padel racket half foam and half EVA rubber ... in summer I try to play with a harder one and in winter I try it to be a little more flexible.

PI. - Which partner, apart from the current one (Juani Mieres), have you felt most comfortable playing with?

M.L. - I had excellent experiences with my partners. With Mati (Matias Diaz) I played a

PI. - What was the best match you remember?

M.L. -The Mar de Plata one I won with Mati (Matias Diaz), where we won in the semifinals to Juan and Bela 7-6 in

the third set and Juani and Pablo 7-6 also in the third one, especially because my whole family was watching the game, it was a totally full basketball stadium and it was amazing.

PI. - Do you think it’s important to share friendship with your partner?

M.L. - It is very important to get along well and respect each other... it’s better if you have a good friendship, but it is not crucial. It is very important to respect your partner. We share many hours a day and in the tournaments several days together ...

PI. - What importance do you give to the diet?

M.L. - I have the reputation that I don’t train much and that I don’t take much care of my phisical condition ... but I’ve been training a lot for years and taking good care of myself. I am lucky to be able to enjoy what I like the most thanks to padel and thanks to NOX. I have also been a little over a year with a very balanced diet and I am in a great physical moment.

PI. - What is your favorite hit?

“I have a reputation that I do not train much, nor have I taken much care ... but I’ve been around for a number of years training a lot and taking care of myself a lot.”

M.L. - Music is one of my biggest attractions .. I live listening to music ... I listen to music all day long ... I go to bed with music and I get up with music ... all kinds of music ..

M.L. - I love driving ... if it was for me I would go everywhere by car, but without a clock ... without an arrival time ..

PI. - What’s your opinion about psychologists in padel?

M.L. - I think it’s important but I never had one ... I only spent three weeks with a person who was not a psychologist but it was similar, it was a great job, a genius.

PI. - What would you improve in the padel world?

M.L. - Although in Spain padel is crazy, the expansion of padel worldpag. 18

wide is essential and WPT is doing a spectacular job ... we have already gone to many countries and it is something incredible.

PI. - What do you eat before and after each game?

M.L. - I usually eat pasta ... chicken ... salad ... and in the afternoon if I train I have a smoothie ... I have a good breakfast, have a good lunch and have a light dinner.

PI. - Any obsession on the court?

M.L. - Ufff ... I’m a sick fanatic ... is that I’m very nervous and I live it a

PI. - How many hours do you need to sleep?

M.L. - I usually sleep 7 hours, I don’t usually go to bed early ... with 7 hours it’s ok ... if I have a game or have trained a lot I sleep 30 or 40min in the afternoon as well.

PI. - Your ideal vacation?

M.L. - Anywhere, but with my family.

PI. - Do you like other sports?

M.L. - I love sports ... I’m a football fan ... but I love tennis ... basketball ...

PI. - Wich sports do you practise besides padel?

M.L. - I like tennis a lot ... I love sports ... playing a tennis game and then a SPA drives me crazy ... sometimes I take a bike ride with a friend.

PI. - If you were not a professional padel player, what do you think your profession would have been?

M.L. - Anything related to sports, I studied economics, and I like it, but in the end everything related to sports ..

PI. - What time do you enjoy the most from a match?

M.L. - The important moments ... when the game is hot and people enjoy when we play well ... connect with people, I love that.

PI. - ... and the time you enjoy the less?

M.L. - When you don’t feel the ball as you are used to when you train, when the ball doesn’t go where you want ....

M.L. -It’s something that we have already thought about a long time ago, I’m very attached to Nox and I see myself working in something

related to padel. I love padel, I see myself as a coach because I also like to see young players, try to help them in whatever way I can , I’ll be linked to Nox a long time and I will be as a coach and with the brand.

ur first sensations when playing with it were quite positive and as the level of the player was going up, some lack of that level of play came to light.

t is a round racket, this gives us more control over the ball and a broader “sweet spot”. Thing that is appreciated and much.

I

t is very manageable both at the bottom of the court and the volley, has a low balance, that is, the weight of the racket is more in the middle (heart of the racket) and this makes us not have a feeling of a “bigheaded” racket.

I The brand has taken care of details such as the fastening tape and the fist plug

t does not have a protector, but in this particular model it is not a problem. Being a balanced and manageable racket, there is no problem in putting a protective part of these that sell loose or in packs, this will not make the racket becomes “bighead”.

s I mentioned earlier, as the player progresses in level, you notice the shortcomings of the racket. When a player has more level he hits the ball harder when he wants to attack and when he wants to defend the ball he comes stronger as well. In general soft rubber rackets, as they are softer, when you hit the ball the rubber of the racket sinks and takes longer to recover its position, this makes the ball to come out with less strength from the racket, this is, with less power, and this does not suit an advanced player.

TEST ZONE Sneakers Babolat JET Despite the fact that the French brand has been operating since 1875, to hear about Babolat in padel was to generally hear about padel rackets, but in the last months we can see footwear of a very colorful design and great looking in every court.

fter having heard, and very good, about these padel shoes we put on for the first time some Babolat and the impressions are very good, they weigh very little and adapt very well to the foot, without feeling that, sometimes uncomfortable, pressure in the sports shoes, but without ceasing to hold firmly, so essential in this sport due to the amount of moves that requires.

Clay and Omni soles think that the weight matter would be noticed so much ... but approximately for each foot there is a difference of 80gr. and in the end you end up by feeling them.

f we talk about the grip on the court we have to say that in this case we have tried the CLAY sole ones, and they hold on very well, we haven’t had any slip except in some area with more clay than normal but the result has been excellent.

A

negative factor is the durability. Indeed, for the twenty games we have played they seem to leave a lot to be desired, for shoes whose price ranges between € 80 and € 120, depending on where they are bought, we expected more durability .... In addition to the rental of the court and miscellaneous expenses to play a good game of padel, we would have to add € 5 per game (until today) .... we hope they last for twenty more.

To talk about padel is the same as to talk about expansion, an incredible improvement is taking place, both in the number of players and the countries in which is practiced. Currently there are 31 International Federations recognized by the FIP, which are distributed in the following geographic demarcations

PACIFIC ASIA AUSTRALIA President Matt Barrelle mattbwork@gmail.com: Australia is an expanding Federation that seems to have no limit, one of the highlights is the creation in 2016 of two new clubs by the hand of the ex-tennis player Henri Leconte who has bet on this country. The Australian Padel Federation has held 5 FIP tournaments that have been held in Sydney and the Gold Coast in the last year.

It is an official member of the Padel International Federation since 1991.

The Argentine Padel Association is the second largest world padel association in participation. There are around 1.5 million players in Argentina. The APA has organized the Team World Championship 3 times.
