n packaging and food processing, the traditional motor and gear drive that power belt conveyors pose the biggest challenge of successful deployment because the bulky systems occupy valuable space outside the conveyor frame, require regular monitoring and maintenance, consume high levels of energy and are unsanitary and hazardous. Drum motors from VDG (Van der Graaf, Booth LS-5984) remove these drawbacks, increase operator safety and reduce energy. Its compact, streamlined design encloses all moving parts inside the drum, including the motor and gear drive, eliminating all externally mounted components. The drum motor is maintenance-free, has 96% mechanical efficiency and a substantially longer life cycle when compared with traditional drives.
