Dr. Dyke Redmond, CEO, Heart and Soul Design Communication On a Mission with Media By Gloria Zuurveen Editor-in-Chief INGLEWOOD—It’s Black History Month and what better way to highlight it than to feature in our pages one of those in our community who has been making history for the past 25 years. Dr. Dyke “DK” Redmond, the President and CEO of Heart and Soul (HAS) Design Communication located in Inglewood, California has made history and a name for himself as a premier “digital innovative guru”. The entrepreneur was recently awarded 2015 Creative Director winner of Digital Innovation in Learning Awards (DILA). The DILA seek to showcase excellence and raise the bar for teaching, leadership and for the development of products and services. Dr. Redmond was selected winner out of more than 400 video submissions from the US and 39 other countries, the panel of DILA judges chose winners across 15 award categories and on November 20, 2015, Dr. Redmond accepted his award during the DILA Gala held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.

Dr. Redmond hasn’t always been a nerd or digital guru. As a matter of fact, he was a youth who grew up in the projects, one of many students in underserved communities who were placed in the “written off” category. He didn’t even learn his ABCs until seventh grade. But
this slow beginning did not stop him from progressing, achieving and even excelling. Dr. Redmond today is the recipient of two Master and one Doctorate Degrees. Redmond got his chance at fulfilling his calling and dream by winning an arts scholarship to
California Black Publishers Gather in Sacramento at the CNPA 19th Annual Governmental Affairs Day By Gloria Zuurveen Editor-in-Chief SACRAMENTO— With Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders making headlines after the Iowa Caucus it was befitting that the California Newspaper Publishers Association (CNPA) 19th Annual Governmental Affairs Day held on Wednesday, February 3 at the Sacramento Convention Center sponsored by the Los Angeles Times and hosted by CNPA, Sacramento Press Club, National Association of Hispanic Publication and California Black Media, CBM) would have a keynote discussion on “Perspective On Politics” with a distinguished panel to include: Debra Saunders, a syndicated columnist since 1992 with the San Francisco Chronicle; Christina Bellantoni, assistant managing editor for politics at the Los Angeles Times; Juliet Williams, Sacramento correspondent for The Associated Press and Moderator, Joyce Terhaar, Executive Editor and Senior Vice President for the Sacramento Bee. It was a lively discussion with questions taken from the audience of a host small and large newspaper executives who attended to show legislative members and other officials that newspapers continue to be a viable California industry according to the CNPA. UCLA, and there he discovered media design and production. Redmond said that he was outraged no one had ever told him about it before. Providentially, Dr. Redmond followed in the path that led him to Hollywood to work with alongside actor, Brock Peters and casting director Reuben Cannon as well as to serve as an instructor teaching underserved youth about studio production for Peter’s organization called Communication Bridge. It was in that capacity that Dr. Redmond said that he was instrumental in building a studio where he and Peters would do movie shoots for all black Hollywood actors such as Jane Kennedy and Robert Hooks. With all the experience of working with Peters in Hollywood, Dr. Redmond was then asked by Dr. Edison O. Jackson, the former president of Compton College, to
come and build a program for the school. At first, Dr. Redmond said he laugh at Dr. Jackson for asking him to leave Hollywood and to go to Compton therefore he decline Dr. Jackson’s request. However, when an NBC big producer came to Compton to give them advice, Dr. Jackson asked Dr. Redmond to attend the meeting. He said when he attended the meeting he heard this Caucasian man tell these people that Blacks and Latinos will never be able to learn what it takes to do television. After hearing that conversation, Dr. Redmond said that he went and told Dr. Jackson that he would work for free because, he said, “No one can ever come in my community and say that about my people.” “We wrote the curriculum. Got it state approved. We built a studio from scratch ground up, read the franchise and found out in the cable franchise that they owed the school their own channel. To this day Compton College has its own channel and they can go live 24 hours a day,” said Dr. Redmond. From this humble beginning is why Heart and Soul Design Communication is a successful business venture for Dr. Redmond. It is because he is about the community and giving back. He gives back through his organization CHIME (Changing Hearts and Images with Multimedia Empowerment). CHIME was created and developed by Dr. Redmond to foster an environment for students to freely express their creative voices and bring their imagination to life through multimedia (iPad, Editing, Photo/Graphics, Video Production &Audio) programs. But the Southern California reverend was not prepared when he opened a mailed envelope on Jan. 27 containing a news clipping with a picture of him preaching at “The Annex,” the outreach and evangelism center of St. Paul Baptist Church in Oxnard, where he is the pastor. The grotesque and racist language scrawled all over the news article shocked Huggins. The unknown sender had scribbled racial epithets and other insults across the clipping taken from The Ventura County Star’s special “Black in Ventura” section. “I was shocked someone would be that bold and take that
kind of time to do something so sinister,” says the pastor of Saint Paul Baptist Church in Oxnard. Please see Racist, page 10

Dear Readers It’s Black History Month and we are proud to help celebrate it with all of our readers. This is a special time to educate all of our family members and others about the richness of our history. We are people of substance and we are people of resilience. We are a people of so many talents and gifts to share and to proper as we extend them out to other to enjoy. Let this be a time that we share our Black History by way of telling stories about our immediate ancestor and how they got over from the chains of oppression and how we still have a way to come out of that history. Black History is a time for us to reflect and to remember how grateful we should be for God keeping us through the trials and tribulation but also how so many success stories we have and next week we will talk about some of them and other throughout the month. Let this be a beginning to get into the habit of reflecting on our history not just this month but all 365 days a year. God bless you.

Political Decisions vs Political Choices By James Clingman Picture this headline: “Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders win respective primaries.” Let that Marinate for a moment before reading any further. Now, what is your reaction? Faced with those two choices, what will you do? For whom will you vote? Will you vote at all? Or, will you go to either (or both) of the candidates and make demands, insisting that unless they support your positions publicly and in writing you will not vote for them? No matter who ends up on the ballot, our choice for President will be based on decisions made by others. Some people use “deciding” and “choosing” interchangeably, and in some cases that’s fine. But in politics, it’s intellectually dangerous and comes with negative results for the electorate. Remember George Bush’s words, “I am the decider”? That was his way of saying I have the final say. Like the President, the Supreme Court decides; political handlers, donors, and operatives decide. The electorate chooses, with the exception of the 2000 election where the Supremes decided who would be President. The necessity for [strict scrutiny] becomes evident when we consider that major parties, which by definition are ordinarily in control of legislative institutions, may seek to perpetuate themselves at the expense of developing minor parties. Justice Thurgood Marshall What about Black folks? As I wrote last year (“Spectator Politics”), Black folks do not have a say in who wins Iowa and New Hampshire, which are the primary indicators of who gets the final nomination for President. Why would candidates spend millions of dollars to win those two small states? Iowa has a 91% White and 2% Black population, and only 6 electoral votes; New Hampshire has a 93% White and 1% Black population, and only 4 electoral votes. By the way, the third state to vote is South Carolina, which has a 28% Black population and 9 electoral votes. The bottom-line in this exclusionary process that takes place during the run-up to the Presidential election is this: The majority of the electorate is only left with choosing among, and later between, the candidates decided upon by a hand-full of powerbrokers and opinion leaders. Listen to the speeches and watch the debates, and you will see a glaring absence of rhetoric about Black issues, such as those listed in the political platform of the One Million Conscious Black
Voters and Contributors (OMCBVC). Lip service and posturing are the rules of the day for candidates who want the Black vote. The bar for their response to our needs is insultingly low. Just say, “Yes, Black lives do matter,” and you got Black votes. Just say, “I am for voting rights,” and you lock up Black votes. Just mention “MLK’s Dream, or Rosa Parks’ refusal, or the Selma Bridge, and the Black votes are in the bag—mostly the Democrats’ bag. Bernie Sanders, according to an article written by Ta-nehisi Coates, said, the likelihood of reparations for descendants of enslaved Africans in America “is nil…I think it would be very divisive.” That’s a real interesting response in that reparations for Jewish people were not deemed “divisive” by Sanders. Barack Obama does not support reparations; Hillary Clinton and all the Republican candidates do not support reparations. So Black folks “ain’t got nothin’ coming.” Surprised? I doubt it. What do we do? Well, we must first understand that in politics there is a difference between choosing and deciding. Then we must organize ourselves into a “deciding” force rather than continue to be a “choosing” afterthought. How do we do that? By joining the OMCBVC and reaching a critical mass of Black folks who are willing to play politics to win by leveraging our votes as a bloc, and by combining our financial resources in order to leverage our dollars within the political campaigns of prospective candidates. Ice cream moguls, Ben Cohen’s and Jerry Greenfield’s support of Black Lives Matter and their ties to Bernie Sanders in Vermont, notwithstanding, Charles and David Koch, Sheldon Adelson, George Soros, and all the rest of the puppet masters whose money controls politics, show us that we have very little decisionmaking power. What we have at this stage of the game is the ability to choose from the power-brokers’ decisions. Beyond the superficial, Black folks’ issues are not being discussed by any candidate. But why should the candidates deal with us? They are courting virtually all-White audiences in the two states they want us to believe will ultimately determine our next President. When the game comes to South Carolina it will change a little; we’ll see Black church visits, gospel hymns being sung, and arm-in-arm prayer, which always turns us on and captures our support. I implore you, if you are a conscious Black voter, to join the movement that is focused on bringing about a significant change in how public policy is determined. Behind Flint Water Horror, a Corrosive Cynicism By Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. The basic story of the poisoning of the children of Flint, Mich., through the water they drink is now pretty well known, but as more details come out, it keeps getting worse. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder, after passing a big tax cut for the rich and corporations on coming into office, had to find cuts to make up for the lost revenue. In Flint and other cities, he essentially nullified democratic elections, deposed elected mayors and city councils and installed his own agents with virtually dictatorial powers. The “emergency manager” of Flint decided that the city could save money by discontinuing its water supply from Lake Huron and instead drawing it from the toxic Flint River. He then failed to treat the new water with additives needed to keep the city’s old pipes from leaching lead. When people objected to the brown, smelly water filled with particles that was coming out of the taps, the governor’s men reassured them the water was safe. All of Flint’s children were exposed to water with elevated levels of lead. Now we learn that General Motors complained to state officials that the water was corroding their auto parts. So the governor’s team gave GM its own hook up back to the water from Lake Huron — while still insisting to the residents of Flint that the water was safe for their children to drink. State officials also acted promptly to respond to the bad water for one other constituency: state employees in Flint’s state office building. Even as it was reassuring residents that the water was safe to drink, Flint officials arranged for coolers of purified water to be set up on all the floors of the office building. Flint’s residents — disproportionately black and low income — were seen as disposable. And they are not alone. The national statistics on lead poisoning, as Kevin Drum of Mother Jones details, show that African-Americans were poisoned at three times the rate of whites until recent times. And, of course, low-income people are poisoned at higher rates than the more affluent; poor, urban African -Americans and Latinos suffer the highest rates of all. Drum notes
that while white children were severely afflicted in the postwar lead epidemic, it produced “nothing less than a carnage among black kids.” He argues that before lead was brought under control in the late 1980s, virtually an entire generation of urban black teenagers was at risk of lower IQs, more behavior problems in school, higher rates of violent behavior. This, of course, reinforced already vicious racial stereotypes of African-Americans, and of the poor. The only hope in Flint is that the children’s exposure was limited in time and intensity, but even that is grasping at straws. And as Flint resident and documentary filmmaker Michael Moore points out, this isn’t just a crisis of water. Flint’s residents now see the value of their homes wiped out and their hopes for jobs dashed. Few would consider buying a home in Flint now. Few employers will want to set up shop there or expand there. The governor’s men have wreaked untold economic damage on the residents of Flint on top of the threat to their health. The lessons of Flint are plain. Those who scorn government are the wrong people to elect to head it. Government capacity to enforce health and safety, to police environmental poisons and water safety, is essential to the security of our children. As America gets more and more unequal, the cynical, unstated assumption that there are some who are simply disposable, who don’t deserve decent services, is likely to spread. But Flint may end up showing something else as well. That cynicism is more corrosive than the toxic water coming from the Flint River. People aren’t going to put up with it. They aren’t going to adjust quietly to the decline of basic services. The Flint calamity was exposed because the poorest residents objected time and again, despite the reassurances issued by authorities. The failure of the governor’s local dictator and of the state officials themselves is now apparent. Yet the reaction to the calamity still seems in slow motion. It is time for the federal government to step in. Investigations should lead to indictments. Federal resources should be mobilized to rectify the water in Flint immediately, and to provide the city with a real plan for renovation and revival.

(Attitude, Commitment, Teamwork). He said they foster a positive environment for students to discover and freely express their creative voice by bringing the imagination of young minds to life though media. We strive to build the voices of tomorrow today—from future filmmakers, journalists, photographers, graphic designers, writers, IT professionals, environmental advocates and artists of our future. As we’ve seen and heard so much recently about how no Blacks were nominated for the Oscars, it is the belief of Dr. Redmond that Blacks have enough gifts and talents in the community to build and run their own studios. He should know because of his own success in running Heart and Soul all these years. He believes in passing it on and that is what he is doing through CHIME. CHIME works jointly as a resource for community, technology and economic empowerment by: empowering youth through education, training and exposure to technology; changing the image of

Dr. Redmond said, “If left to its own devices, the negative images and stereotypes of minorities will never change.” He believe what St. Augustine said, “We are all created in the ’Imago Dei,’ Image of God.” “CHIME is designed to tackle these images. We believe it is time for the images of these communities to
be defined by the youth living in them,” said Dr. Redmond. He is man of his word and his works speaks for him through the work he is doing in collaboration with Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) where he works with 140 in their Beyond the Bell afterschool program. At the National Prayer Breakfast held Thursday morning in the Nation's Capital, President Obama gave a speech based off of 2nd Timothy 1:7, which reads "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." "Fear does funny things. Fear can lead us to lash out against those who are different or lead us to try to get some 'sinister other' under control," said Obama. "Alternatively, fear can lead us to succumb to despair, or paralysis. Or cynicism. Fear can feed our most selfish impulses and erode the bonds of community. It is a primal emotion, fear." Obama added that "my faith tells me that I need not fear death. That the acceptance of Christ promises everlasting life and the washing away of sins." "Faith is the great cure for fear. Jesus is a good cure for fear. God gives believers the power, the love, the sound mind required to conquer any fear," continued Obama. "And what more important moment for that faith than right now? What better time than these changing tumultuous times to have Jesus standing beside us, steadying our minds, cleansing our hearts, pointing us towards what matters?"

Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, the husband-wife producer team behind the hit TV series "The Bible" and the movie "Son of God," gave the keynote speech. Burnett and Downey spoke about their experiences as immigrants in the United States as well as their belief in the importance of being outspoken Christians in Hollywood. Obama also focused his speech on interfaith cooperation, stressing the commonalities between the diverse faith communities of the United States. Obama's speech at the National Prayer Breakfast will be his last as president, as next year's National Prayer Breakfast is scheduled to take place after the 2017 Inauguration.
Jeremiah 32:17 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee. When I think about where God has brought me from I can’t help but to thank Him for His grace and His mercy. When I wake up each day and I look out of these eyes that He has given me to see I can’t help but to think how awesome and magnificent God is. God is an awesome God. He is a great God. He can do any thing but fail. There is nothing too hard for God. I know and believe like the King Hezekiah who prayed in 2 Kings 19:15, “O Lord God of Israel, who dwellest between the cherubim, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou has made the heaven and the earth.” Yes, rejoice! for God is God all by Himself . So as we move into this election season and promises are being made on every hand by all the presidential candidates trying to win by saying and making promises like “If you vote for me I’ll set you free”. You must know and believe like Jesus said in Matthew 19:26 “With men this is impossible , but with God all thing are possible.” Yes, there is nothing too hard for God because with Him all thing are possible and because of this you can trust in the promises He has made because of His dear Son, Jesus paid the price without silver or gold but with his blood as the story is told. Now through Christ, we can do all things and without Christ we can do no-thing. So let’s us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering for He is faithful that promise said the writer of Hebrews. Yes, God is faithful at His word and if we will just trust that whatever we have need of we must first seek His will and His way and He will give us the desires of our hearts because like the Word says, “There is nothing too hard for God”. He is a great God and He is a good God and we must put our faith in the One that can move mountains, the One that can make a donkey talk, the One that can open a Red Sea and the One who can make the lame walk and yes the One who sent His only begotten Son for you and for me. Let us believe and receive real promises from the “Real Promise Keeper”. Because there is nothing too hard for God. Amen!

HEALTH & COMMUNITY NEWS Congresswoman Waters Urges Continued Vigilance against HIV/AIDS in Honor of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Ranking Member of the Financial Services Committee and a leading advocate in Congress for HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and treatment, marked National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day by urging robust federal funding for domestic HIV/AIDS programs and renewed vigilance in the fight against HIV/AIDS. National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day will be celebrated on Sunday, February 7, 2016. “National Black HIV/ AIDS Awareness Day is a day to rededicate ourselves to making HIV/AIDS a top priority for African Americans and indeed for all Americans,” said Congresswoman Waters. “We must make it a top priority to stop the spread of HIV and tell our friends and neighbors to get tested. We must also make it a top priority to ensure that Congress provides robust funding for federal efforts to fight this devastating epidemic. We cannot tolerate funding cuts to essential

Jones, CPM In the general workplace there are commonly a considerable number of opportunities to eat something sweet where sometimes your mind drifts into a joint decision by splitting its attention between to indulge in or to go without. It is the term 'joint' that I am bringing attention to which in the body is the location at which our bones connect. Whenever we eat processed sugar it adds to chronic inflammation that is a major factor in a number of diseases, from cancer and diabetes to arthritis and digestive disorders. Inflammation can be classified as either acute or chronic. Chronic inflammation is bad as it leads to a host of diseases, such as hay fever, periodontitis, atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and even cancer (e.g., gallbladder carcinoma). Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) typically causes very warm, swollen, and painful joints, thereby classifying it as a chronic ailment rooted in inflammation, for instance diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, and many other illnesses. Consequently, it is detrimental to your health as an ongoing autoimmune disorder that primarily affects joints; however, it can be minimized by abstaining from eating too much processed sugar. That notwithstanding, there is even a larger problem from contracting RA when sufferers receive medical treatment to take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and analgesics like Tylenol. The problem with most RA associated drugs is that taking them over a protracted period can result in life-threatening liver and/or kidney damage. The increase was included in the Omnibus Appropriations Bill, which was passed by Congress and signed by the President in December.

NEWS Violent Hate Speech, Racist Threats Target Ventura County Baptist Bishop (Continued from page 1) Atop the news clipping is a profile picture of King Jr. To the left of the thoughtful picture is the civil rights leader’s name in print. Written above it - “DEAD NIGGER!” A few spaces away “PIN A MEDAL ON JAMES EARL RAY DID THE WORLD A FAVOR!” Above the picture of Huggins, the phrases “UGLY BASTARD!” “LOOKS LIKE AN APE” were penned. The envelope’s mailer wrote, “DIE NIGGER!” over the center of the white cross in the background of the picture. “UGLIEST NIGGER IN TOWN” “UGLY MONKEY” “! BACK TO AFRICA !!!” “TOO MANY DAMN NIGGERS!” and “THEY ARE A DRAIN ON CIVILATION!,” were chicken-scratched above, between, and below the story’s photo caption, headline, and sub headline. Huggins said he has experienced that type of hate before. The preacher’s grandfather was lynched by White men over half a century ago. When Huggins was 16 and growing up in Stockton, he was beaten and left for dead in a ditch by a
group of white males. The pastor also remembers being fired from a job for being Black. His son, 32-year-old Broderick Alan Huggins Jr., was shot and killed by an Alameda County sheriff’s deputy during a March 30, 2013 traffic stop in Oakland. “If I wasn’t a pastor, if I wasn’t grounded in the word of God, and if I wasn’t rooted in the love of God there is no telling what planet I would be on right now,” says Huggins.. “I’m not intimidated because it is the word of God that challenges me every day to live with courage and not allow fear to control my goings and whereabouts.” Saint Paul Baptist Church is 62 miles north of the city of Los Angeles, in a Ventura County coastal city known famously for its agricultural industry, wealthy income, and minimum amount of violent crimes. Ventura County’s population is 2.2 percent AfricanAmerican according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau tally. The reverend said small pieces of inflammatory mail have found its way to the church’s mailbox before but nothing like the envelope that was delivered in late January with no return address. Huggins
said he has no clue who marked up and mailed the news article to the church. Huggins said a lot of people in Oxnard have been supportive in light of the racist attack on he and his church, which has a congregation of several hundred members. “Everyone is very appalled about what happened,” Huggins said. “White people and black people.” Many people have posted notes of encouragement on the bishop’s Facebook page. Dr. LaSonya DavisSmith typed that Huggins is one of the kindest persons she knows. “He is always giving of himself to the community and feeding those in need...mind, body, and spirit,” she said. “For someone to do this to anybody would be a travesty but to do this to a true humanitarian such as our Bishop Huggins renders me speechless.” Huggins’ wife, Toni Huggins, wrote that her husband has been featured several times in the Ventura County Star and said the article was marred by evil comments. “The reality is ... we live in a cold, cruel world and the enemy is busy, and shamefully, racism still rears its ugly

head and lives well in Ventura County,” she said. Rene Camper-Stewart called the mailer of letter a coward. “We must pray for the sick minds of people filled with hate,” she typed. Oxnard Police Department spokesperson Miguel Lopez said law enforcement is investigating the incident. Last month, Huggins delivered a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day sermon in front of a majority White crowd at the Arlington Theatre. The pastor’s speech centered on issues of racism and the political climate in America. He also discussed the death of Broderick Jr., his oldest son. Huggins said the speech earned him a standing ovation. Huggins said he believes the racist attacks in his life are a divine call for him to stand against injustice and racism. “I have always been a social justice kind of preacher,”
he said. “I was raised during the 60s, in that period of activism. It framed my theology.” The preacher’s is goal is to make teachings from the Bible relevant to young people, who may feel there is no racism in the world. “They have to deal with this bigoted culture we are in,” Huggins said. “I feel like it is my responsibility as their pastor to give them tools to work with.” Huggins said he is grateful spiritually that the racist mail was delivered to him and not a pastor that shies away from discussing racism, social justice, and Black issues in the pulpit. “I can put it in the right perspective,” he said. “I haven’t been white-washed my entire life. I’m not shaken or afraid because this is part of the whole experience of being Black in America. I’m a Black preacher in America, so I have to deal with Black issues.”

What was revealed was a continuation of the same scenario. The Black Press being left out and not getting its portion of revenue from billion of dollars that’s being spent on the state level. Wilson took the lead to follow up on what is going wrong and she said that she plans to speak with the Black Legislative Black Caucus and others who can make a difference when it comes to inclusion instead of exclusion. The CNPA event concluded with a Legislative reception at the State Capitol Basement Rotunda.

LOCAL NEWS Mayor Garcetti Unveils $332 Million Capital Improvement Project at LAX Terminal 2 LOS ANGELES— Mayor Eric Garcetti today joined Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) leaders to announce the completion of the latest large-scale improvement project at LAX — a $332 million overhaul of Terminal 2. The renovation has modernized more than 76,000 square feet of the international terminal, transforming it into a world-class hub for travelers from L.A. and around the globe. The unveiling of the Terminal 2 project marks another significant step forward in LAX’s historic $8.5 billion modernization program, which includes renovations to nearly every terminal at the airport. “L.A. is the international travel center, and this spectacular new terminal will help us broaden our global reach even further,” said
Mayor Garcetti. “With the help of our partners, we have turned this terminal into a beautiful new space — and an expression of our commitment to building the world-class airport our residents and visitors expect and deserve.” Terminal 2 is the second-busiest international terminal at LAX, serving 4.1 million international passengers and more than one million domestic passengers last year. The improvement program includes major upgrades to the ticket lobby, baggage screening and claim areas, and concourse areas that serve the terminal. The improvements also include 15,000 square feet of brand new retail and dining. "I want LAX to be a place where people want to be, not because it’s a stop on their journey, but because it is full
of amenities,” said Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, Chair of the City Council’s Innovation, Grants, Technology, Commerce and Trade Committee. “I’m committed to helping Los Angeles International Airport set a new bar for customer service and passenger experience. In addition, $5 billion will be invested in the coming years to bring a new rail system to LAX along with a consolidated rental car facility. “The LAX Capital Improvement Program is an essential aspect of enhancing the guest experience at LAX,” said Sean Burton, president of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners. “More than five million travelers used Terminal 2 last year, 80% of them international passengers, so we have to ensure they have an airport experience that is world class.” “Fresh facilities with more seating, new services, and expanded dining and shopping experiences for today’s travelers, are part of our $332-million investment in

Although he is committed to supporting former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president, Carter told the British Parliament, according to CBS, that if he had to choose between the two Republican rivals he would much rather see Trump in the White House because he is much more "malleable." "I think I would choose Trump which may surprise some of you, but the reason is Trump has proven already that he's completely malleable. I don't think he has any fixed opinions that he would really go to the White House and fight for," said Carter who ripped Cruz as too rigid in pursuing "far right-wing policies." Michigan Emails Show Officials Knew of Flint Water Disease Risk Emails between highranking Michigan state officials show they knew about an uptick in Legionnaires' disease and it could be linked to problems with Flint water long before Governor Rick Snyder said he got information on the outbreak. A spokesman for Snyder rejected the report by the liberal group Progress Michigan on Thursday. Emails obtained by the group show Snyder's principal aide, Harvey Hollins, was made aware of the outbreak and a possible link to the use of Flint River water last March.

"And people spreading rumors that I had dropped out and that people should caucus for somebody else. I mean do you think that that is something that's acceptable? That's one of the reasons that I got into this race because looking at the level of deceit and distrust that is going on in our country, so I just want you to know, I'm not going anywhere," he told his supporters. Cruz partly blamed the information about Trump dropping out of the race on a CNN report. CNN on Wednesday flatly denied that claim in a strongly worded statement. "Senator Cruz's claims about CNN are false. At no point did the network
indicate Dr. Carson would suspend his campaign," said CNN. Trump, who came in second in Iowa, charged that Cruz won in Iowa because of the "fraud" he committed there "Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified," Trump declared in a tweet Wednesday morning. Despite an apology from Cruz about what happened in Iowa, Carson has made it known that he is not happy with what happened in Iowa. At a press conference in Washington D.C. Wednesday evening Carson told reporters that voters should judge all candidates by the words of Jesus in the Book of Matthew. "I make no bones about the fact that I am a person of faith, and I believe it what it says in Matthew 7:20: 'By their fruit you will know them,'" Carson said. ART&ENTERTAINMENT NEWS Earth, Wind & Fire Founder Maurice White Dies at Age 74 By Piya Sinha-roy Maurice White, the founder of R&B funk band Earth, Wind & Fire, died in Los Angeles at age 74, a band spokesman said. White died at his home on Wednesday night from natural causes, publicist Mark Young said. White had been battling Parkinson's disease since 1994.
