January 3 - New Year public holiday Because New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday, the following Monday (January 3) will be a public holiday throughout Thailand.

January 6-9 - PIMEX Boat Show - Royal Phuket Marina Asia’s biggest on-water boat show, PIMEX 2011 is held annually at the Royal Phuket Marina Exhibition and Conference centre with 2,500 square metres of air conditioned display space adjacent to the marina basin. This year will feature more than 40 boats on the water, ranging from tiny dinghies to luxury yachts and family cruisers. All the major brands will be represented, and it is here you can check out the latest nautical gear and gadgets. Luxury motor car brands Lexus and Jaguar will also have their latest models on display. Five restaurants on the boardwalk overlooking the marina will feature a relaxed carnival atmosphere during the show.

January 7 & 21 - Curry Fridays at Navrang Mahal Indian restaurant Curry lovers will be in their element with the all-you-can-eat curry buffet at the Navrang Mahal restaurant in the Karon Sand and Sea resort every second Friday. January 8 - National Children’s Day Every year, on the second Saturday in January, the Thai people celebrate the importance of their young people. Many events will be organized and many parks and zoos will allow children to enter for free on this day. This is a great time for you and your family so get out there and enjoy the festivities.

January 14 - IBAP meeting The International Business Association of Phuket meets on the second Friday of each month. This month’s meeting will be “Networking, everyone meets everyone� held at the Thai Naan restaurant, opposite Central Festival. Everyone is welcome. January 15-16 - Phuket Airpark Fly-in Aircraft from all over Thailand and Malaysia will fly into Phuket for two days of fun and festivities. January 22 - The 9th Annual QSI Phuket Fun Run At Bang Wad Dam in Kathu. Registration starts at 8am, advance at QSI School. There will be free water for the runners, great food and drinks, jumping castles, band and DJ, raffles and silent auctions, and more all for a complete family Fun Day! January 23 - The Great Phuket Rubber Duck Race Day - Laguna Phuket More than 2000 rubber ducks will race in a bid to win 1.2 million baht worth of prizes for their ‘owners’. The first twelve numbered ducks to cross the finish line will each win a prize, with the top prize, three days and two nights aboard the 5-star twin-masted sailing boat, the Silolona, for ten people, worth 800,000 baht ($US 27,000). There will also be dragon boat races, kayak races, a home-made raft race and a cardboard box race for kids, as well as classic car rides and a Delightful Duckling costume. Master illusionist Joe Conrad will perform some amazing magic tricks, and all monies raised on the day will be donated to the Phuket Community Foundation charity.
