Greek Olympics Greeks invented athletic contests and held them in honor of their gods. Isthmos games were held every two years at the Isthmos of Corinth. The Pythian Games were held every four years near Delphi. The most famous games are held in Olympia, south- west Greece. This event took place every four years. The games at Olympia were from a one- day festival of Greek athletes and wrestler. The order of events was not accurate. The first day was devoted to sacrifices, in the middle day of the festival, 100 ox were sacrificed in honoring there gods. Athletes would pray and made small sacrifices of themselves.
