When was your first conscious contact with fashion?
How do you envision your next collection?
After finishing high school, I had a period where I didn’t really know what I would like to do or what I could do. I always liked Japanese Fashion, then moved to England for a course in Art & Design. England is a place that has all different kinds of culture and art scenes. I thought that, if I had to expand my horizons and become more open minded, London would be the best place. The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp was just my dream school. I decided to take the risk and take part in the entrance exams.
I normally build up a collection by telling a story. The collection in general has lots of things and people I found inspiring. All the things around me or happening around me are like poetry, songs, lyrics, movies, art, stories or even just a bit of a thought. I don’t really look at fashion sources. I am trying to be as original as possible by researching costumes from all over the world, absorbing the cultures and life styles they carry. This has helped a lot in understanding what clothing is all about. Trying to place a costume in particular historical and social framework. Studying things that already exist, and modernizing them. My ultimate goal for every season is to also combine them with wearability.
