During the 92 Great Lakes Regional Conference I attended the Ecumenical service on Sunday March 5th.
During this service each speaker took one letter of the word “Greater” and put another word with it. I have slightly enhanced what was said to emphasize the importance.
G – Glorify God to have everything you do to go as planned.
R – Rejuvenation is necessary occasionally, to continue ourjourney. God tends to rejuvenate us all when we least expect it. And there are times we may need to rejuvenate each other.
E – Elevate your sister when needed. Give her a push or pull her up when she needs it.
A
Activate by ensuring that when we start something that we are doing it for the right reason and being led by the right person.
T
Transcend to assist our sisters to rise above our ordinary limits and outdo or exceed in excellence.
E
Empathy is the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings or the caring response to our sister’s distress.
R
Respect is to always regard the feelings of our sisters even when we do not agree with what they said.
This is just a brief overview of what was discussed or should I say preached in this service. It was a very uplifting service that put into context what being sisterly is all about. It also demonstrated those things necessary to truly be “Greater Together”.
You will be hearing more details about each of these within the coming weeks because I believe they are all very important. In the meantime, please internalize each of these to determine if you are doing those things to help us all become “Greater Together”!

Juanae Stephen AKA OXO ChaplainOmega Xi Omega is constantly on the move! There are moments when you are unsure of the impact you are making in the community. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc ® is here to change the community one child, activity, and donation at a time. I had the opportunity to see exactly how important we are, not only to each other as sisters, but also our community at large. Each week CHIPP bags are delivered to Seminole Academy in Mount Clemens. Often times, I am unable to see the students’ faces who are impacted by our donations. Wynter, a fifth grader who attends Seminole, was waiting to be picked up afterschool. The look on her face was priceless when she realized I was the person behind the CHIPP bag delivery each week. Wynter wanted to take a bag right then and was excited when she received it moments later. I learned a valuable lesson that day. No matter how big or small, when you serve from the heart, the impact is greater than we could ever imagine. Therefore Sorors take note - we are each needed and have a specific place we are targeted to impact. Please do not take lightly who you are and what you bring to this mighty chapter and organization. You are needed and others like Wynter are waiting for you to be the change they need!
