THE RADCLIFFE CAMERA

The College is just a two-minute walk to the Radcliffe Camera, the most iconic landmark in Oxford. Designed by James Gibbs in a neoclassical style, it was built in 1737–49 to house the Radcliffe Science Library. Today it is home to reading rooms for the Bodleian Library, holding books from the English, History, and Theology collections.

Alongside traditional two-year A-Levels we offer flexible programmes that offer an alternative to the mainstream of education in the U.K. These programmes include a condensed one-year or five-term A-Level, BTEC Business and, for international students, the NCUK International Foundation Year.

BTEC OUR BTEC BUSINESS COURSE IS SUITED TO THOSE WHO WANT A MORE PRACTICAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE. IT CAN BE TAKEN EITHER ALONGSIDE OR INSTEAD OF A-LEVELS. The BTEC Business Level 3 Diploma is a qualification that offers an introduction to the core areas of business. The 8-unit diploma is normally taken over 1 year and is equivalent to 2 A-Levels. Alternatively, you can choose to study the 13-unit Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A-levels) or ‘top up’ your UCAS points with the 4-unit Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A-Level).

39 Life at our College

MARILOU POLYMEROPOULOU Marilou is a Senior Tutor and a teacher of Sociology at Oxford Sixth Form College. Originally from Greece, she moved to Oxford to undertake doctoral studies in Anthropology of Music at the University of Oxford as a Greek State Scholarships Foundation scholar. Prior to joining Oxford Sixth Form College, Marilou taught anthropology and epistemology in Secondary and Higher Education for four years. She has extensive experience in pastoral roles as a personal tutor and warden.

SEVI IOSIFIDOU Sevi has been working in the educational sector for the past 15 years in the field of language teaching. After working in Greece, she moved to the UK to further her education and teach in multinational contexts. Her postgraduate studies has given her insights to educational policies and design of curricula as well as teacher training. For the past few years she has also been supporting students with respect to their well-being and academic progress as well as offering career advice. In her free time, she is part of a drama group in Oxford, loves baking and cooking for friends.

LAURA SIMMONS As well as working as a Senior Tutor to support students, Laura teaches students who are enrolled on the Academic Preparation Programme in order to help them improve their English. She has taught English as an additional language to international students in the UK and abroad for a number of years. Laura has completed a level 2 course in counselling skills and is Level 3 safeguarding trained to support the pastoral side of her role.

Prior to joining the college, Laura embarked on a 2.5 year adventure to South and Central America travelling predominantly between Costa Rica, Honduras and Peru, teaching English and volunteering. She enjoys being creative; whether with arts and crafts or writing and can often be found scouring through magazines collecting ideas which she can put to all sorts of uses!

ROBERT MEALING At Oxford Sixth Form College, Robert has previously held the positions of Co-Director of the Academic Preparation Programme, Head of International Students, and Programme Manager. He loves now working with students in the role of Senior Tutor whilst also teaching A-Level Photography. Robert earned his BA in the UK studying Humanities with a specialism in Religious Studies, but previously also studied Graphic Design and Computer Graphics when he lived in California. Additionally, he holds a CELTA qualification for teaching English as a second language. He worked for many years in Educational Publishing managing the development of interactive web-based textbooks for secondary school at one of the largest publishing companies in the world. In his spare time Robert enjoys growing English roses, cooking international foods and exploring the Oxford towpaths with his corgi Nell.
