As we enter into the last weekend of the 2023 – 2024 senior league rugby season, it seems only right that we reflect on an amazing season so far for the club. Whilst there is more rugby to look forward to across all sections of the club, the key highlights so far are the Women’s First XV reaching the final of the Papa Johns Plate Cup Final This will be played at Sixways on Saturday 11 May - further details will be shared in due course but as ever all support will be welcome as we look to cheer the team on to victory Our Men’s First XV have also delivered a first for the club, securing promotion to the National Leagues for the first time in the clubs history This is a significant achievement as it has been done by a group of young men who, like all our players, play for each other and the club rather than for financial gain We are incredibly proud of all of our senior players, these achievements are only possible through the hard work and dedication of everyone across the men’s and women’s playing sections

This Saturday we have a first for the club as we host both Women’s and Men’s Rugby fixtures at Horspath Road To get things started our Women’s First XV kick off at 1pm against a strong Cannock Lionesses team Having watched their cup semi-final fixture, it’s a game that should not be missed as they look to finish the league season strongly. This will be followed by the Men’s Second XV who take on Bracknell Second XV – kick off is 3pm and so a chance to get a double dose of rugby at home. Our men’s Third XV travel to Huel Tring RFC to take on their Second XV. The ‘mighty 3s’ have played some amazing rugby this season and have been unlucky to be relegated, I have no doubts that next season they will bounce back from this, stronger and will be pushing for an immediate return to level 8 rugby.

Finally, our First XV travel to Bromsgrove RFC, it seems like a long time ago that we played the reverse fixture at home which took place on the opening weekend of the season. This was a closely fought game which Quins won 38 – 26. I know that Bromsgrove will be hoping to finish the season with a win and there is much talk on their social media channels of them wanting to beat the league champions. I have every confidence that the team will travel to Bromsgrove focused on delivering a performance which will allow them to finish the season with 100 league points.

On Sunday the club is hosting the Oxfordshire Under 10 Festival, we look forward to welcoming clubs from across the county, their players and parents. This will be our third mini and junior festival this season and with the rescheduled U13 festival scheduled for May I must thank all of the volunteers, players and parents for all their hard work and support in helping to make these events possible.

c h a i r s w e l c o m e

Volunteers are the backbone of the club, whether you help with car parking on a Sunday, administer or coach a team or hold a more formal role supporting the management of the club, we must thank you for your support and all that you bring to the club. Volunteering not only helps us to continue providing sporting opportunities to people across our communities but also brings with it the personal reward of doing something special for others We are always looking for new volunteers, whether you can offer the occasional hour on a Saturday or Sunday or would like to take on a more regular and formal role, please do speak to one of the coaches or Exec team members

Finally, as always, I want to thank everyone who will be picking up a whistle this weekend Oxford Quins prides itself on the welcome we provide to all referees who visit us and make the game possible Please show them your support both by thanking them after the game but also by showing them the respect that they deserve whilst they officiate
