Ifthatwasnotenough,thisSundayourAcademyside alsotaketothefieldat HaileyRoadwithafixtureagainstlocalrivalsWitneyRFCaseverallsupportforoursidesthisweekendiswelcome!
However,ourweekendistingedwithsadnessaswehaverecentlylosttwoofour membersfromformergenerationsoftheClub-MikeBlakeandNathanSmith. “Blakey”wasakeensupporteroftheclub,aneverpresentatourluncheswho followedtheOldBoysbeforetheQuins.Apopularandkindmanwhosupported theclubbothhomeandaway. We’vealsobeenmadeawarethatNathanSmith, alsosadlypassedawayrecently. NathanplayedfortheQuinsduringour extendedruninNational3,helpingtheclubwintheCountyCup(2008)inwhat’s widelyregardedasthegreatestcupfinaleverplayedwhenwebeatChinnorRFC inextratime.Nathanwasaspecialmanwho,whilstaplayerfortheclub,was involvedinaroadaccident. Hisresilienceanddeterminationshownashelater wentontorepresentNewZealandinthe2012Paralympics.
OurthoughtsandprayersarewithMikeandNathan’sfamiliesatthissadtimeand bothwillbesadlymissed.Iwouldliketoinviteyoutojoinusinaminute’sapplause beforethe1XVgamekickoffasamarkofrespectandremembrancetotwofine rugbymen.
Wearefortunatetohavesomanygamestakingplacethisweekendandmustnot losesightofthefactthatnoneofthesewouldbepossiblewithouttherefereesand matchofficialswhotaketheparkalongsidetheplayers. Notonlyareweabletoseetheworldsbestplayerscompetingagainsteachother, butFrancehavemanagedtoputtogetherafantasticeventthathasshowcased everythingthatisgoodaboutthegame. Ihavebeenluckyenoughtoexperienceit overthelastweek,meetingfansfromallovertheworld,fromAustralia,Namibia, ArgentinaandNamibiatonameafew. Theyhaveallshownhowmuchpassionand excitementtheyhaveforrugby.Theatmosphereatallthegameshasbeenbrilliant andtheFrenchforthefirsttimeinalongtimehavereallymarketedandshownrugby tobeatrulyglobalgameforeveryone.

Weareexcitedforanotherbigseasonaheadinthecommunitydepartmentat OxfordQuins,afterasuccessfulschoolsandHAFprogrammelastyear,weare lookingtoreachevenmoreschools,andorganiseevenmoremultiactivityand rugbyspecificcampsformembersandthelocalcommunity.
Ontopofthiswearehavingabigpushforgirlsrugbyandalreadywehavehad successfultrainingcampsduringtheSummerwhereanumberofgirlswhohad neverplayedthegamecamealongtoHorspathandenjoyedourfantasticclub andourgreatcoaches.TheLordMayorofOxfordalsovisitedandevengot involvedwithanumberofthedrillsandactivities.
Alsoduringthesummerholidaybreak,weranouranotherHAFcamp,whichis supportedbytheOxfordshirecountycouncil.Thiscampranfor2weeks,andwe hadaround50childrenperdayattending.Ourteamofcoachesprovidedthe childrenwithmulti-sportactivities,partygames,creativelearning,orienteering inShotoverWoods,aswellassupplyinghealthybreakfast,lunch,andsnack optionsdaily.
TheHAFcampsweprovideareessentialforourcommunityastheyprovide parentswiththesupportthatisneededduringtheholidayperiod,providing childrenwithanopportunitytogetinvolvedinnewactivitiesandanew environment,growtheirconfidenceandalsomeetnewpeople.
Ithasbeengreattoseesomeofthesechildrenhavenowbecomemembersat OxfordQuinsandaregearingupfortheirfirstseasonofrugby.TheCommunity Programmeisahugepartofourclubasweprideourselvesonbeingabletogrow thegameofrugbyacrossthecountyandcreateanenvironmentwherepeople canenjoythegame,makenewfriendsandbecomepartoftheQuinsfamily.
RugbyisagameforallandOxfordQuinswantstoopenourdoorstoeveryone whowantstocomealongandgetinvolved.
