As a direct result of this mission, since 1992, HJC has succeeded in maintaining the status as the #1 helmet brand in North America. Wind tunnel A wind tunnel is a research tool developed to assist for studying the effects of air moving over or around solid objects. A tunnel area through which air is blown to check how air flows around an object (such as an airplane part or model) placed in the tunnel. Wind tunnel is referred to a facility which provides a controllable flow field for testing aerodynamic models and studying flow phenomena.

Wind tunnel test description While riding a motorcycle a vortex is created at the back of a helmet. This causes the helmet to feel heavier than its actual weight and makes the helmet feel uncomfortable. At HJC, to reduce Vortex, our helmets are tested using the “HJC wind tunnel testing system” which assures that our helmets are aerodynamic and have reduced “Vortex”.

OUR HELMETS GO 200 KM/H STANDING STILL

When we’re building Ben Spies’ or your HJC helmet, we want to make sure it performs just as well at 200 km/h as it does at 30. This is why we test every new HJC helmet design in our own, state-of-the-art, 177-horsepower wind tunnel. Having our own hurricane-force wind tunnel lets us fine-tune each design for minimum lift, maximum stability, improved ventilation, reduced drag, and minimum vibration and noise. HJC R&D specialists utilize their state-of-theart continuous single return atmospherics wind tunnel to fine-tune the aerodynamics of every helmet we make. Designs are constantly being evaluated to reduce noise and turbulence while enhancing airflow through the vents and improving overall comfort.

AIR PUMP SYSTEM

The AIR PUMP SYSTEM provides a custom fit by surrounding the head and cheek with an automatic, form fitting air chamber. Inflating the chamber causes the helmet to form to the exact shape of the head and face. A large volume PUMP actuator is located inside the cheek pad of the helmet.

SAFETY, COMFORT & NOISE PREVENTION HJC Engineers are constantly searching new technologies to create a helmet much safer and far more comfortable. From the desire of the continuous evolution is born the AIR PUMP SYSTEM. From the concept idea to the manufacturing process, very advanced research has been applied to offer the best solutions. The developed system meets high specifications, offering better safety, an improved comfort, and a noise reduction at high speed, without disturbing the helmet ventilation.

1. Pumping 10~15 times, cheek pads will adjust to the shape of your face. 2. Air in the cheek pads may not completely inflate which wraps around your face providing a comfortable feel. 3. Bottom of the helmet is tightened and thereby eliminating noise. 4. CHIN-VALVE permits air to move in both directions and prevents pressure on the rider’s cheeks. 5. With just one button, air on both left and right may be deflated and provides comfortable removal of the helmet. 6. The system is minimized to make it lighter (35g~40g) 7. While most current helmets are adapting general unsaturated polyester resin and common fiberglass- we are combining the best levels of advanced materials possible. This use of advanced quality composite materials produces extremely high impact absorption and exceptional lightness thanks to its strong and flexible twill woven reinforcement.

He is also known as «Elbowz» lbbowz» due to his riding style where wherre his elbows elbo touch th tthee ground ground. nd. d. He currently lives in Longview, Texas. He started ra racing oon 125cc 5cc bikes in Texas as a teenager. In 2000 he turned proo after a havin having vin won three times the CMRA YSR Championship and received re v the second con place for the Suzuki Cup final (first time on 600 piloting ng a Suzuki sat satellite team’s bike). Ben moved on to dominating ng Superbike class in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Luckily for Benn SSpies, his battles Lu tlees with Mat Mladin in AMA Superbike tl are re va valued by Mot MotoGP teams. 2009 - Rookie okie B Ben Spies be becomes e co com World ld Superbike Champion! mpio ion! • 2009 saw one of the greatest test individual ndividu seasons in n WSB WS WSB history. • Spies won the title with 14 race wins in 28 starts arts and a record-breaking 11 pole positions. • In a single season of racing Spies is tied for 12th on the all-time World Superbike career wins list. • Spies becomes the first American rider since fellow Texan Colin Edwards in 2002 to win the World Superbike title. • Edwards and Spies will be teammates on the Tech 3 Yamaha MotoGP squad in 2010. This has been a truly extraordinary year for Ben Spies debut in the ranks of World Superbike racing. Ben managed to have his former AMA crew chief Tom Housewort rth make the move to Europe with him and everything seems to be running smoothly. Typical Spies motivation, grit and solid tactics have given him some outstanding results. He was determined to make pole position in his first WSBK race at Phillip Island – a treacherously fast course, and at the end of the day he succeeded. What’s really amazing is so many of the circuits are new to him and yet he’s managing to t perform at such a high level from race to race. This year he continues to wear our FGG-15 performance helmet. He contributed substantially in the development nt of this model while our engineers spent considerable time testing it in ou ourr wind tunnel.
