FMS Annual 2022 - Fairfield Alumni Report

Fairfield Alumni Report

Mr Kelvin Ong - President of the Fairfield Methodist Schools Alumni Association

Greetings from the Fairfield Methodist Schools Alumni Association!

We praise God for a truly remarkable year when we resumed most physical activities and face-to-face interactions which were not possible over the past two years.

Like previous years, we kicked off 2022 with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of our Alumni Association. On 26th February, the AGM was held online while some members of the main committee met physically. More than 20 alumni members were in attendance, along with our two Principals: Mr Wee Tat Chuen, FMS(S) and Mdm Law Li Mei, FMS(P). An election of the Alumni Committee Members (2022-2023) was then carried out and members who were duly elected are as follows:

In April 2022, our Alumni Association was privileged to bless our Primary School canteen vendors as well as our Secondary School cleaners with $100 each, to supplement their income in view of inflation.

Our Alumni Association effectively reached out to the student leaders of the graduating Secondary 4/5 cohort. On 21st June 2022 during their postexamination activities, we shared with them what we do as the Alumni Association and how they could stay connected with their peers and teachers through the Alumni Association. Snacks and drinks were distributed to the student leaders that day.

The highlight for our Alumni Association in 2022 must certainly be our 134th Founder’s Day Dinner held at Sheraton Towers on 4th August. There were more than 400 members present. We were delighted to be able to organise and host this annual dinner after a hiatus of two years because of the worldwide pandemic.

Our dinner theme this year was Talent Time and participants were serenaded by Sing! China alumna, Joanna Dong. There were six other acts by individuals and groups who were competing for attractive prizes.

The performers were initially shortlisted from a pool of wannabes who submitted their videos to us. The finalists were all staff from the multi-talented community of Fairfield. Over a sumptuous dinner spread, many took the opportunity to catch up with friends, colleagues and teachers. Led by the Alumni Association Committee, we sang our beloved school song and school hymn.

On 25th October, we celebrated the end of the Primary School Leaving Examinations. At a Hotdog Day event, all graduating students and their teachers were treated to warm hotdog buns with an array of sauces, proudly catered by the Alumni Association. We hope to encourage our students to identify Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) as their school of choice when they embark on their next phase of education.

On the membership front, we now have close to 2000 alumni members.

Finally, we look forward to resuming some of our activities like the Alumni Staff Lunch to honour staff who have contributed to Fairfield for at least 15 years. In 2023, we will be launching our first Fairfield Alumni Education Award to recognise an outstanding alumni member who is pursuing his/her university education.

On that note, in my fifth year as the President, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all current members of the Alumni Association Committee. My appreciation goes to Chairperson Mrs Joni Ong and members of Fairfield Board of Management, Principals, Vice-Principals, parents, community partners and staff from Fairfield Methodist Schools (Primary and Secondary), all alumni members, and well-wishers for their unwavering support and faith in the work of our Alumni Association.

With God’s grace, let us forge ahead into 2023 as we also look forward to celebrating our 135th Founder’s Day. Let us always ‘be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer’ (Romans 12:12 (NIV)). Stay Pure and Honest, and may the good Lord bless and keep you.
