SPEED ENFORCEMENT
The HOA, Security, and Polk County Sheriff’s Office receive multiple complaints of speeding each week from residents. The Sheriff’s Office has been asked for their assistance in speed enforcement. Receiving a speeding ticket is not only financially costly, but can lead to much more serious results.
We will be dressed in our green CERT shirts, our CERT vests (either orange or green) and our green helmets. Many of our members will have two-way radios to communicate with each other and the command post. We will have “victims” in some of the buildings.
Our command post will be in the Magnolia Room and the Library. Communications will set up in the library. Our medical team will be set up in the Ballroom. A parking area will be roped off from Mosaics to halfway down the Ballroom for Search & Rescue/Transportation to bring in “victims.” Logistics will work out of the tower.
Golf Carts and Road Safety
BY BILL KOONZ SECURITY COMMITTEE MEMBER
We want to make you aware that although Solivita is a golf cart community and you can drive your cart all over Solivita, you cannot cross any outside roads such as Marigold or Cypress Parkway.
Florida State Uniform Traffic Control Section 316.212 clearly states that “The operation of a golf cart upon the public roads or streets of this state is prohibited except as provided herein.” That is why you can drive your golf cart inside Solivita, but not outside. The exceptions are many, but do not include crossing a highway that has not been designated by the county and has a sign authorizing the crossing at that location. “The road is the only available public road along which golf carts may travel or cross or the road provides the safest travel route among alternative routes available; and The speed, volume, and character of motor vehicular traffic using the road is considered in making such a determination.” Fla. Stat. § 316.212 (2)(c)
Another thought about safety and to avoid being stopped by the police. All people under the age of 16 are not allowed to drive a golf cart, and those that are 16, and over, either need to have a license, permit with a licensed driver, or they may be subject to a ticket from the men in the police cars.
That is the law, and it is what the Sheriff’s departments will enforce. We deal with two different departments, Polk County and Osceola County. Both have agreed with this and will give citations for crossing either road if they see you.
We are worried about your safety. Remember, cars are heavier than golf carts and can cause major damage and injury. Please be safe.

Even if you missed the Resource Center’s “The Greatest Gift” workshop on simplifying the task your loved ones will face when they need to manage your affairs, you can still take steps to organize your finances and personal information. Try a little role play. If you had to step up and settle the affairs of a loved one, what would you need to know? What is critical; what can be handled in the future? Where would you start?
Now is the time to think about all the financial and personal elements in your life (income and expenses, insurance and investments, streaming services and social media). If you have a partner or spouse, talk about it. Then make a list of the important information. Much of this is financial (pensions, social security, investments, credit cards, insurance), but some is personal like your will, final wishes, bequests, and even the people you would like notified of your death. Don’t burden your loved ones with the task of finding out how to contact your friends.
Take that list and, gradually, expand it. Add amounts, account numbers, contact information, passwords, websites. Or simply keep a file of recent statements from the various accounts; they will usually have all the relevant information. How you maintain this is up to you - on the computer, in a notebook, or on index cards. Just remember that an effective system will be flexible so that you can make changes when there is a new phone number, website, password, etc.
Not only will this process help those you leave behind, but it will also be vital if you are incapacitated in the future or simply need help managing your affairs. An added benefit is that it will help you keep on track now, encourage you to really examine the financial and personal elements of your life and give you a tool for managing the future.
FRIENDS WHO HAVE LEFT US, BUT ARE NOT FORGOTTEN
The first step is to look at how many elements you have to keep track of. To help you start, the Resource Center has a list of the most common items we are all managing. You can obtain a copy by stopping in the Resource Center (above the Bistro) or email SolivitaR2R@gmail. com. Remember, the greatest gift you can give your loved ones is one that will help them deal with the future.
