PRIDE & PREJUDICE @LTH
Local award winning theatre company, The Festival Players, are in rehearsals for their February 2026 production at Loughborough Town Hall of Jane Austen’s most famous novel Pride & Prejudice which has been adapted for the film and television many times. However, it is the 1995 BBC adaptation starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle that has become most firmly lodged in the national consciousness.
This six part drama was written by Andrew Davies, who has now adapted it for the stage.
With elegant period settings, a dynamic ensemble cast and featuring all of the best bits from the TV adaptation (including the lake scene) The Festival Players are back at LTH with a captivating theatrical experience that remains faithful to the spirit of the novel while speaking to contemporary hearts.
Tickets are on sale now from the LTH Box Office.
Colin Firth & Jennifer Ehle as Mr Darcy & Elizabeth Bennett in the 1995 BBC series.

Irish Beef Stew
Ingredients
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2lbs braising steak cut into bite-size chunks
2 onions chopped
4 celery sticks slices at an angle
4 or 5 large carrots into chunks
1 litre beef stock
2lbs potatoes sliced thickly (about 1/2 cm)
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper
2oz unsalted butter
Method
Preheat the oven toC/F/Gas. 2001806
Place a large saucepan over a high heat, add 1 tbsp oil and brown the
beef in batches. Once browned set aside on a plate.
In the same pan add the other tbsp of oil and add the chopped onion, celery and carrot and cook for 4/5 minutes or until the onions have softened. Season with the salt and pepper.
Mix the beef with the vegetable, then switch off the heat. Place the meat and vegetables in an ovenproof dish making sure to include any bits stuck to the bottom of the pan. These hold a lot of flavour! Pour over the beef stock.
Arrange the sliced potatoes over the top. Place some small slices of butter over the top and then cover tightly with foil. Bake for an hour and then remove the foil. Bake for a further 15 to 20 mins, until the potatoes are a golden brown colour and crispy.
Serve and enjoy. Perfect fodder for cold and creepy nights!
