ADAPTED
Outward Bound provides courses for a range of abilities. We offer a variety of courses adapted to the needs of people who live with a physical or intellectual disability. There may be more rest breaks and additional support, but the learning outcomes are the same. Potential activities include sailing, waka ama, high ropes, physical training, camping, team initiatives and reflective tasks.

Activate is for participants who have a physical disability, including blind / low vision and deaf persons. This course will test your boundaries, build confidence and break physical preconceptions.
Specialised equipment, including adaptations to get you up high, out to sea and going solo. Each course can accommodate up to two manual wheelchair users.
Leaps & Bounds Activate is a shared OB experience for disabled teens and their parent or caregiver.
Joining other caregiver and teen duos, you’ll experience working in partnership as part of a wider team.

Horizons is designed for participants with an intellectual disability. You will develop independence, gain confidence in your abilities and work as a team through a variety of different challenges.
UPBEAT UNDER 65 YEARS
7 DAYS
In partnership with Parkinson’s NZ, Upbeat is for people with early-onset Parkinson’s.
Two support workers join our instructors to offer a rewarding and challenging outdoor experience.
Three OB instructors and two support workers nominated by Upbeat will challenge you to discover your best self, using a variety of outdoor activities, camping and going solo.
To safely and fully take part in the course you must be able to participate in a full day’s activities (with rest breaks), comfortable in water and getting your head underwater (wearing a life jacket), independent in all personal cares and are able to work well with others in a team environment.
OBNZ is fortunate to work with other charitable organisations such as Parkinson’s New Zealand & Special Olympics New Zealand who support us to connect with the disabled community in Aotearoa and a make our Adapted Programme possible.
